Damian Lewis is the favourite to play the next James Bond. What do you think?

I know most secret agents probably look like John Major but I do think the fictional ones at least should be suave and sophisticated. Damian Lewis looks as though he should be working for the council, in charge of assigning allotments or something equally as dangerous.

I just can’t imagine him arse kicking and seducing his way across the world in pursuit of the baddies. He looks as though he'd stop mid scrap to tell the villains that his bad hip was at him and could they please reschedule.

Are you a fan of the smug mouthed one?

Actors always lie about their height. Internet 5' 10 means real life 5' 7"

Well I was surprised how many were exactly 5.10 mitzy :)

Moln · 17/06/2015 22:13

Daniel Craig is 5 10? Looks taller on TV.

If I ever see Aidan going for a stroll I'll measure myself against him and get back to you.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 22:13

5' 10 seems to be the default for shorties as they're not claiming to be very tall, just a bit tall.

Only two hail marys for that little white lie! Grin

Moln I think you'd need to do a full body squash for accuracy's sake.

It's for the good of the thread Moln I agree

Wishful80smontage · 17/06/2015 22:17

Idris Elba 6.2

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 22:18

Oh yeah, I believe that about Idris. He's a lovely man mountain.

I am also gutted iklboo I always thought he was just really shy (although he does seem to take the whole acting thing quite seriously) so that's disappointing to hear. Does your DH have any gossip?

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 22:26

I think he is really shy, shy people often seem aloof and a bit up themselves.

The more I think about it, the more I think Damien could do it.

I don't care if he has called his children Mahnamahna and Ferngully or whatever those names were upthread (please don't make me scroll back), he could still do a good Bond.

If Bond had children they'd have posh-but-odd names as well. Remember he works with people who have ridiculous names every day. Moneypenny, Pussy, Domino, Vesper, Solitaire, M, Q, etc. Bond is practically obligated to be the laughing stock of the baby names threads.

OnlyLovers · 18/06/2015 09:26

Nah, apart from all my other objections to Damian L he's too posh.

Wishful80smontage · 18/06/2015 12:23

He's just not Bond he's not anywhere near what Bond is supposed to be.

Frostycake · 18/06/2015 16:58

Ladies, I give you a late (but highly qualified) candidate:

Adam Rayner

I was spellbound by him in Mistresses. He's tall, dark and blue eyed. Charming and menacing with eyes that could melt knickers.

Only that he was an absolute bell to extras, runners, crew etc. The other cast were all really nice & Charlie Hunnam was quite goofy & sweet.

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/06/2015 17:09

Damned lies!

Bond did have a child, by Kissy Suzuki; named, rather unimaginatively, James, though Bond didn't name him and had no idea of his existence until the child was and an adult.

I'm still in the Fassbender camp.

ShortandSweeter · 19/06/2015 11:02

Yeah, I think Lewis would make an ace bond.

Micah · 19/06/2015 11:26

Apparently Colin Salmon was considered for casino royale, I always thought he'd be a great bond.

Otherwise I'd also love to see a femal bond.

I do think we need a native English speaker, there's very few Americans can fake a good English accent!

FriendlyLadybird · 19/06/2015 12:49

Bond is supposed to be dark-haired. We've already had a blond Bond (and Roger Moore was quite fair) so I don't see why he couldn't be red-headed. I can't understand the people who think Damian Lewis is too posh, though! Apart from the fact that he's an actor, so what he himself is like has got nothing to do with anything, Bond IS posh. He went to Eton and Fettes.

As for a female Bond, that's just ludicrous on so many levels.

Micah · 19/06/2015 12:55

Why is a female bond so ludicrous?

holmessweetholmes · 19/06/2015 13:03

Because James Bond is a male character.

squoosh · 19/06/2015 13:06

Bond having a vagina would probably be the least ludicrous thing about the average Bond film.

Micah · 19/06/2015 13:12

So was M. Judi Dench did a pretty fine job :).

I don't see anything about the character that screams male. Pretty much the same as I don't see why the character should be white.

When the books were written that kind of job and position -naval officer, Mi5, was the preserve of the white, male, upper class. I very much doubt if you went to Mi5 today you'd find the same demographic.

Times change. If you stuck to the character in the books James Bond would be dead or in his 90's.

Also, What squoosh said :)

holmessweetholmes · 19/06/2015 16:22

Yes but M is not the main character, so you can play about with how you portray him/her without really making any difference to anything. I would have thought that making Bond female would be extremely unpopular with the majority of Bond fans, so I doubt they'd do it tbh.
