Damian Lewis is the favourite to play the next James Bond. What do you think?

I know most secret agents probably look like John Major but I do think the fictional ones at least should be suave and sophisticated. Damian Lewis looks as though he should be working for the council, in charge of assigning allotments or something equally as dangerous.

I just can’t imagine him arse kicking and seducing his way across the world in pursuit of the baddies. He looks as though he'd stop mid scrap to tell the villains that his bad hip was at him and could they please reschedule.

Are you a fan of the smug mouthed one?

I was about to object in the strongest possible terms to Tom Hiddleston, but that's because I was confusing him with Tom Goodman Hill.

I still think Tom Hiddleston is a bit weak of chin though.

This is Tom Goodman Hill. All wrong.

He wouldn't be able to control the jazz hands. Guy Pearce would be my Australian suggestion.

Only two others who reckon on Mr Fassbender?!

Idontseeanydragons · 17/06/2015 08:25

Not feeling Mark Strong tbh, he's a great actor and very handsome but more suited to a quietly menacing bad guy role I think.

DustBunnyFarmer · 17/06/2015 08:27

Signora - I saw him play a spy ina film that also had Ewan McGregor. His British accent was impeccable. He can easily manage action and menace. A sensible punt IMO.

mulberrybag · 17/06/2015 08:32

Irish bond, Colin Farrell ?
Does anyone know if DC has been axed or if it's his choice to not do another film ? He's pretty much perfect as bond imo

BitOfFun · 17/06/2015 08:33

Sensible, but dull. He is curiously difficult to warm to, I find.

hellsbellsmelons · 17/06/2015 08:53

Good shout Wishful
I love Simon in the Mentalist - soooo yummy!

No-one has mentioned Laurence Fox.
I like him a lot as well.

Colin Farrell = terrible bond. (I'd rather Cillian 'Can't do a Brummie accent' Murphy)

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 09:09

Ahhh, was his mangling of the mighty Brummie accent the reason for your disdain? I'm sure he could make amends as Bond.

Colin Farrell wouldn't work. He's more of a Scrappy-Doo than a Scooby-Do.

What's wrong with you all!!!

Idris idris idris ..... especially if he brings his luther walk too. And he's an absolutely lovely guy in RL.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 09:11

There's a lot of support for Idris. These other suggestions are more like a contingency plan.

Moln · 17/06/2015 09:12

Yes Mitzy. I'm a Brummie, I live in Ireland. He could have asked me for private lessons

Moln · 17/06/2015 09:14

Oh Idris would be marvellous cleanmachine.

These are just emergency back ups

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 09:35

I'm sure that was just a silly oversight on his part Moln not to ask you for a bit of one to one tuition.

Look how sad he is to have let you and all the Brummies down.

Hmmm.

Maybe an arm wrestle between Cillian and Idris could settle this?

OnlyLovers · 17/06/2015 10:14

Cillian is too fey. And yes, Christ, that 'accent'! I actually stopped watching Peaky Blinders because it was so offensive.

James McAvoy would be good. Irreverent, capable of violence, not quite the right sort but knows how to 'pass' when necessary.

Cumberbatch, on the other hand: I love him but he is too essentially upper-middle-class to convince.

I tell ya, they're missing a trick not casting Paul B.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 10:18

I know it can be off putting if you hear an accent you're familiar with being mangled. I was watching Iain Glen (yum) in some detective thing, it was fine till I realised his accent was meant to be Irish.

It was so bad it was almost comedic.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 10:22

But no to James McAvoy, he gives me the heebie jeebies.

holmessweetholmes · 17/06/2015 10:38

Ok, not Cumberbatch . Love McAvoy, but can't imagine him as Bond. I don't really want Daniel Craig to stop either - he's the perfect Bond, I think. Didn't find him at all attractive before, but as Bond...

Frostycake · 17/06/2015 12:01

Lawrence Fox looks like an accountant from the Midlands imo. I love to watch him but he doesn't have the physicality of Bond.

Frostycake · 17/06/2015 12:05

I don't want Daniel Craig to stop either holmessweetholmes I think he's perfect as Bond. Sexy, menacing, smart, strong.

Simon Baker on the other hand is beautiful. Just beautiful.
