Damian Lewis is the favourite to play the next James Bond. What do you think?

I know most secret agents probably look like John Major but I do think the fictional ones at least should be suave and sophisticated. Damian Lewis looks as though he should be working for the council, in charge of assigning allotments or something equally as dangerous.

I just can’t imagine him arse kicking and seducing his way across the world in pursuit of the baddies. He looks as though he'd stop mid scrap to tell the villains that his bad hip was at him and could they please reschedule.

Are you a fan of the smug mouthed one?

Had to Google Lawrence Fox. He does, doesn't he, Frosty Grin Can just imagine him getting out of his Mondeo.

I really dislike Daniel C and am actually just glad he's on his way out.

Felix75 · 17/06/2015 12:19

Yeah I think Laurence Fox probably couldn't be arsed, he has an air of sort of apathy but also as a person I don't think he could be bothered with the massive publicity etc, I don't think he wants to be that famous. Just the vibe I got from an interview I read.

lilivonshtupp · 17/06/2015 13:19

@Onlylovers - adore James McAvoy, but he's not really 'large' enough for the role. He'd be more of a sidekick I think.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 13:29

Lawrence Fox?!

I'm going to have to start forcibly ejecting the riff raff from this thread.

Who was it who said Andrew Scott ? Probably the closest IMHO, although a tad short. But could do charming/menacing easily. Also has an interesting native accent, which could add something.

Would he be fairly low-profile stateside ?

hellsbellsmelons · 17/06/2015 15:30

Well there's just something about Laurence I like.
Anyway I want Idris as 1st choice and Simon as 2nd choice.
Am I still riff raff? Sad

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 17/06/2015 15:51

Tbh I'd love to see Idris as Bond. He's sexy and not pretty boy-ish. There was a rumour before DC got the gig.

OnlyLovers · 17/06/2015 15:54

I know what you mean, lily, but I like the idea of a Bond with wiry strength who can pass as a bit of a weed but then surprise the hell out of assailants.

Lurking, I didn't see the Andrew Scott suggestion but yes, that's interesting. I like the idea of Bond having a 'regional' accent that he has almost but not quite successfully suppressed; would add to his air of being a very convincing outsider but an outsider nonetheless.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 15:59

hellsbells you can remain on the advisory committee as long as you scratch Laurence firmly from the list.

Sorry but you just can't have a ginger bond Confused

StillFrankie · 17/06/2015 17:31

I don't see either of them as Bond tbh.

Idris Elba is hot but it just wouldn't work

Damien Lewis is just too boring

I think it'll be someone younger and new

iklboo · 17/06/2015 17:35

Dominic Cooper? Mind you, he's Tony Stark's dad so probably not.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 17:36

Dominic Cooper looks like a frog.

Grin Mitzy

DustBunnyFarmer · 17/06/2015 17:43

Its interesting that, despite the lack of agreement on acceptable alternatives, there seems to be a clear consensus that Damian Lewis is all wrong for Bond.

justalittletired10 · 17/06/2015 17:50

Ben Aldridge would be great as 007.

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/06/2015 17:56

I've never heard of Ben Aldridge but google images tells me he's not bad looking. Google images has less of an opinion on his acting ability.

justalittletired10 · 17/06/2015 18:03

Ha! Grin He was in a bbc drama called our girl. A Handsome & aloof army officer.

FriendlyLadybird · 17/06/2015 18:11

Humorous White Male Toff Psychopath

The thing is, Bond does have a back story -- and this is it. It's pointless trying to make Bond something he's not because the whole franchise is built on a specific combination of ingredients from the original books and early films. Films that thought they'd be clever and miss out the music, for example, were not well received.

Damien Lewis can do menacing, by the way. There are a couple of moments in Life when he switched from funny/annoying to cold-blooded killer on a dime, and that's what you need for Bond.

Just looked up Ben Aldridge. Bit too young for Bond isn't he?

More reasons to keep Daniel for a while, to allow the younger actors to get older.

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2015 18:19

Ian Fleming wrote Bond as somewhat unpleasant. Therefore I think Christian Bale would be perfect as he seems to have an nasty reputation now.

Isn't this a moot point anyway, since Daniel Craig has supposedly signed up for at least one more film after Spectre? So a lot of these people will probably be a bit on the old side when the job becomes vacant.

holmessweetholmes · 17/06/2015 18:27

Daniel Craig does the underlying menace thing very well. So cold under the charm. Makes me feel a bit Blush at finding him attractive like that.

Moln · 17/06/2015 18:29

Just looked it up:

‘Name: Bond, James.
Height: 183cm, weight: 76 kilograms; slim build; eyes: blue; hair: black; scar down right cheek and on left shoulder; signs of plastic surgery on back of right hand; all-round athlete; expert pistol shot, boxer, knife-thrower; does not use disguises.
Languages: French and German.
Smokes heavily (NB: special cigarettes with three gold bands); vices: drink, but not to excess, and women. Not thought to accept bribes.’

Also he supposed to be mid to late 30s.

FlourArranger · 17/06/2015 18:39

This sums up my objection to DL as Bond.
