Damian Lewis is the favourite to play the next James Bond. What do you think?

I know most secret agents probably look like John Major but I do think the fictional ones at least should be suave and sophisticated. Damian Lewis looks as though he should be working for the council, in charge of assigning allotments or something equally as dangerous.

I just can’t imagine him arse kicking and seducing his way across the world in pursuit of the baddies. He looks as though he'd stop mid scrap to tell the villains that his bad hip was at him and could they please reschedule.

Are you a fan of the smug mouthed one?

Kit Harrington could fit inside a Kinder egg. He actually could.

Jaime Lannister is divine however.

Mitzy! I see you!!

RiverTam · 16/06/2015 21:48

Nikolai Walder Costeau (sp?) aka Jaime Lannister was mentioned upthread, again, too beautiful. Very good actor though, I totally forgot what a cunt he'd been in Season 3.

Felix75 · 16/06/2015 21:50

Oliver Chris if he bulked up and worked on the menace? No?

DuchessOfWeaseltown · 16/06/2015 21:53

Mitzi, I would oh so happily devour that Kinder Egg...

Ah, sorry RiverTam, that'll teach me not to rtft... he is probably too beautiful, too, you're quite right...

I think the Broccolis (James Bond family, not just some random green veg) should get an MN jury in to help them decide on whoever they decide on... I would happily abandon my beloved DH and DD for however long it tok to reach a decision...

RiverTam · 16/06/2015 22:04

Yes, I feel ludicrously invested in this. I think the criteria have to be (based on past casting etc):

  1. British or Irish
  2. 40ish
  3. Not mega famous, especially in the US
  4. Suave but menacing
  5. Sexy but not beautiful/pretty

Anything else?

vestandknickers · 16/06/2015 22:08

Hasn't been on Strictly
Isn't an arse
Isn't Damien Lewis

SingingSands · 16/06/2015 22:10

Sam Heughan

Plays Jamie Fraser in Outlander.

Yum.

iklboo · 16/06/2015 22:14

Clive Owen was tipped a few years ago.

How about some definitely NOTs - just for giggles.

Martin Freeman
Leigh Francis
Paul Daniels
Justin Fletcher
Biggins

iklboo · 16/06/2015 22:16

I'd watch Bond if Aiden Turner,Idris Elba or Richard Armitage were 007.

DuchessOfWeaseltown · 16/06/2015 22:17

Tom Hardy...?

iklboo · 16/06/2015 22:17

Stephen Mangan on the 'not Bond but needs a role' list.

WyrdByrd · 16/06/2015 22:35

Oooh Oliver Chris Smile. Was absolutely gutted at last series of Bluestone 42

Felix75 · 16/06/2015 22:36

How about Andrew Scott? Or is he too well known as Moriarty?

Lurleene · 16/06/2015 22:41

Can't believe no-one's said Danny Dyer yet.

Joke Grin

FWIW I agree that Tom Hardy would be a great choice.

May I also suggest my boyfriend David Tennant for another role? He does baddies well.

Wagglebee · 16/06/2015 22:47

Angry Doctor was always my favourite... Blush

Lurleene · 16/06/2015 22:50

I hear you Wagglebee Wink

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/06/2015 22:57

No to David Tennant. Not even as a paper shuffler in the background.

DustBunnyFarmer · 16/06/2015 23:18

I like David Tennant, but he's all wrong for this.

Moln · 16/06/2015 23:20

David Tennant? Exit to the left please...

Wagglebee · 16/06/2015 23:52

Not for Bond himself. We just thought he could be a good nemesis. He does threatening very well.

hellsbells99 · 17/06/2015 00:19

Rupert Penry Jones for me!

Damian Lewis is the favourite to play the next James Bond. What do you think?
hellsbells99 · 17/06/2015 00:21

Or what Singingsands says:
Sam Heughan who Plays Jamie Fraser in Outlander.

dalek · 17/06/2015 00:37

Idris Elba, Rupert Penry Jones, Tom Hiddleston (although I agree too famous now), Mark Strong or Jon Hamm (if he can pull off the accent) - any of those will do for me.
