Lilly Allen & Miquita on abortions

Sorry for the DM link - I know it's a rag.

I'm just completely disturbed having read this article and listened to their podcast episode of them talking about having 5 abortions each. This surely is not what the 1967 abortion act was designed for. It's not some preppy girl-power feminist statement to have so many abortions you can't even remember them. And to laugh and sing about it rather than take a somber view or think about how you would make better choices or advise women and girls listening to make other choices for themselves. Or to demand that contraceptive services post-abortion are better to prevent girls from having another one. Am I wrong for thinking this is messed up and completely tasteless? And antithetical to the well-being of women and girls? Am I being excessively prude and judgemental?

Sorry didn't know where else to put this & haven't made a thread before so if I have broken rules or if this just is inappropriate let me know. This has just really got under my skin.

Article link here

Their podcast is called "Miss Me" and is available on BBC sounds - it's on their episode from this week called "Listen Bitch" at the very start. I am not a regular listener to it.

Edit: sorry I meant to post this on feminism chat not S&G discussions

Lily Allen admits she 'can't remember' how many abortions she has had

Speaking on the pair's podcast, Miss Me? , the singer, 40, described her reproductive system as a 'complete disaster area', confessing she would 'get pregnant all the time'.

She grew up in wealth and has always had access to medical care including contraception.

She has instead, chosen promiscuity and abortion as a way to conduct her sex life.

She Is an utterly deplorable woman but sadly many of the extreme Left are also this way.

5 abortions isn’t ’using abortion as contraception’ unless Lily has only had sex very few times in her life. I wish people wouldn’t say such stupid things.

Also, abortion isn’t always traumatic for women.

Taking some tablets in early pregnancy to get rid of some cells you don’t want to develop into a baby iis really quite straightforward and very much not traumatic for many women.

Some people really don’t like that. They want women to be contrite and feel shame.

Edited

Excellent post. Couldn’t have put it better.

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 02/07/2025 20:23

I saw the article today and actually felt sick. Absolutely disgraceful. Using abortion like a contraceptive is completely immoral. There's absolutely no need for it. I judge the hell out of shameful women like this.

Waiting for you to delete my opinion 🙂

Soubriquet · 02/07/2025 18:25

I honestly don’t care. Her body, her choice.

As early as possible, as late as necessary

Couldn’t put it better. I know someone personally who has said similar and I don’t think she’s deserving of any of this shaming. She is a professional woman, an amazing friend and most of all one of the best and most dedicated mothers I know.

She had a tough time, made mistakes and went through traumatic events that all lead to pregnancy. Then she pulled it all together and is thriving in every aspect of her life. She wouldn’t be the woman she is now without those abortions and her kids wouldn’t have the loving mother who was ready for them if she’d have been forced to give birth when she wasn’t in the right place in her life.

AlertPeachQuail · 02/07/2025 20:26

Imagine if women were educated to keep their legs shut

TheWibble · 02/07/2025 20:27

Couldn't give a shit. Their bodies, their choice. What about the men who cum I descriminently without recourse?

TheWibble · 02/07/2025 20:28

Or men, to keep it in their balls.

I agree OP. I'm absolutely pro choice, but this feels wrong.

Yes, it does.

This is exactly the type of right wing misogynist pushback I expected after hearing their podcast episode.
Im wondering… do extreme right wing men never conduct themselves in a way that is promiscuous? 🧐

That's you. To be honest, that's me as well. However, it's not all women. I'm just wondering how you would decide on a limit and define levels of "irresponsibility".

Is anyone here saying that you should be arrested for having 5 abortions and being flippant about it? Assuming they were all early term / each individual abortion would legally be permitted.

I think posters in this thread are saying something more like "I'd really look down on them" or "I'd find it hard to be friends with them".

I don't quite see the path from that to coathangers tbh!

AlertPeachQuail · 02/07/2025 20:26

Imagine if women were educated to keep their legs shut

MN wouldn’t exist and we’d all be deprived of women talking about their horrid husbands and how they have been left to bring up their 4 kids alone.

In fact there are many posts on here where women are encouraged by posters to abort. It’s the responsible thing sometimes, and there should never be a moral limit.

Appleday55 · 02/07/2025 20:32

Why does it matter how many abortions she has had?

You can't agree with one abortion and not agree with five.

mydogisthebest · 02/07/2025 20:33

I think it is disgusting and just confirms that she is the vile person I always thought she was.

I wonder what her daughters will think of it? I guess they should think themselves lucky she had them although from what I have read she is not a very good mother

Oh look we are back in the 1950s.

There were men involved in Lily Allen getting pregnant. Do you have any criticism for them?

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 02/07/2025 20:35

Soubriquet · 02/07/2025 20:29

Whenever abortion is brought up, I always remember this

What utter shite. Unless a woman is raped, it is both the woman and the man's responsibility!

If this is feminism, I want no part in it.

Because many are judging women and saying that abortion "should not be used as a contraception" taking a moral stance.
Fine. However, if people feel that strongly, and they appear to want to limit abortion because of this, then that will be the outcome.
It's either a woman's right to choose, no matter how others judge her, or it isn't.

Middlechild3 · 02/07/2025 20:39

I'm far far older than their target audience but I listen to their podcasts and hear two very intelligent women talking frankly and openly about their real life experiences on many topics, the good, the bad and the ugly. The discussion on abortion was frank, open and brave. The message was personal choice. The reason open discussion is s swept under the carpet is because judgemental fuckers such as on this thread try to shame people because they hold a different opinion and proceed differently. Shame on you. Keep going Lily and Miquita, you are brilliant and young women need open discourse about these things and all topics which most shy away from.

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 02/07/2025 20:42

Lol imagine a world where women could only have one or two social abortions! I guarantee you that women wouldn't 'forget' their pill or be a bit choosier when deciding whether to have casual unprotected sex. Perhaps women would actually start taking responsibility for their behaviour and actions! Imagine!

Appleday55 · 02/07/2025 20:43

I am absolutely pro abortion.

I think abortion is for the welfare of the baby and the mother.

If a mother doesn't want the baby, if the baby is born, the baby will have a terrible life.

Abortion is merciful as it stops the baby having a terrible life.

When abortions were illegal, and women couldn't even get one, let alone two, there were still unwanted pregnancies.

Yes, those were the days when contraception wasn't readily available. It is now so there is no excuse for it.

Are you serious?

We don’t need to ‘imagine’. It’s the whole of human history prior to the legalisation of abortion.

Unwanted pregnancies, back street abortions.

Maybe we should limit who can take the morning after pill too?

OneAmberFinch · 02/07/2025 20:46

Sure you can, because most people don't have a black and white view of abortion in moral terms (not talking legally).

Many people consider it a non-neutral act morally which involves balancing the circumstances of the abortion/pregnancy (term, medical issues etc) against the wider circumstances of the mother/family, and trying to take the least-bad path.

In the context of the mother making a decision to abort or not, or the legal system deciding whether to prosecute or not, the outcome is binary. In the context of other people quietly letting it affect their opinion of the person, there's a lot more room for "mmm, I suppose it was for the best but the whole thing could have been avoided with a bit more responsibility..." and the like.

Yes I'm serious. Contraception is mostly free and easily accessible these days. In the times you are describing it wasn't. So there really isn't an excuse.
