Would anyone like to join me on a self-help thread to get out of a rut and feel happier?

I am not happy. I know there are lots of things I could/should do to feel happier eg eat better, do more exercise, make an effort with friends, get out of the house more...but I'm in a rut and feel a bit defeated.

I had the idea of using this thread to post each day a few things we could each do to make ourselves feel better then report back,
encourage each other etc.

Any takers?

Just to add. Am looking to work two short days a week and not full time as I would like the best of both worlds!

Have been at home for 6 years with boys not 4 as above.

Keep smiling!!!

Eore - welcome. You sound like you've got into a rut and need a bit of an incentive to climb out, like the rest of us!

Sounds like people have had a pretty good day today - for me just ticking a couple of things off a lsit helps me feel a wee bit happier.

Eore I know how stuff can get on top of you -at least the better weather is (hopefully) on its way. I find it's easier to do outdoor stuff on the cheap when the sun is out!

Hope you all have a good weekend....

Hello all
It's Saturday and I really need some good vibes from you today to get me through. It's only 8.30 and I'm already feeling like a coiled spring!! DH said to keep this w/end free in case we could do something as a family, but ni, instead it looks like he's going to be taken up all weekend with a house clearance project he's involved in. I KNOW it's about providing money for the family, I know he HAS to do it as the new tenants are moving in but I am so fed up!

I have to get three kids out so two of them can have swimming lessons, then it's the daily grind plus trying to get the older one to do his homework.

Right, I need to eat breakfast and develop a more positive mindset to get me through this morning.

Hope everyone is OK.

Hi Janni. xxxxx

I'm not having a terribly good morning. Must be hormonal cos I'm as snappy as hell. Got up early and got out with the dog first thing - it was nice to get out on my own and not having to drag kids behind me. Have come home and DH has gone to work so I'm tackling my way thru the washing and ironing piles. I'm going to go out this afternoon tho - with DD1 (DD2 at a party) so we can have a wander around town together. Won't buying anything exciting but will nip to the library and grab a few bits of groceries. I don't get enough time with DD1 on my own so its always nice to get out with her.

Sending you lots of love and good positive vibes to help you thru your day. xxxxxx

Thanks whispy xx Hope you enjoy your shopping trip.

Am feeling less wound up now, but there's just SO much to do...

Need to clear away the huge pile of laundry I emptied over the living room floor, when trying to find the kids' swimming trunks!

I know....there's always a list of jobs for me to do in this house..but I do what I can at my own pace. I don't rush around. If I want to sit down with a coffee...I do. I used to feel guilty just 'sitting down' but now I think 'sod it' and I make sure I give myself a break. Otherwise I end up getting so stressed and its not worth it. I've just spent the last hour on the phone to a friend. It was nice to catch up but in that time my kids have trashed their playroom...the same room I tidied up and cleaned thru this morning. Normally I'd get stressed out but I've just told the two of them that unless its tidied back up this side of midnight dd1 will not be going out with me this aftn and dd2 won't be going to the party she's been invited to. Needless to say they're both busy clearing up. ... because they know I mean it and I have cancelled stuff for them before! Wicked Mummy aren't I? xxx

Hello all.

Late as ever, but may I join in?

I have a massive heap of laundry on the bed waiting to be sorted and put away, but if I get the sitting room floor swept and scrubbed today I will feel I have achieved something, it is grim under dd1's chair at the table.

Wahey, got it done, and the kitchen too

got nothing done over the weekend as was on quite a downer. not helped by being on eggshells over dh's drinking.

Will see if I can get the washing on the line before it is time to feed dd2 and collect ds.

Might be half the battle with the depression if I can get the house transformed from it's current bombsite to something bordering tidy.

Hi ladies. Hope everyone's day is going OK.

Well done readytoswig, you seem to have done that sweeping/scrubbing in record time! I am currently putting off starting work which is not really a good idea as it will hang over me for the rest of the week.....

All the house chores are waiting as well - off now to hang out rest of the washing (and put off work for that little bit longer....)

Hi Mutton bird, What work have you got to do?

Hi Swig (hope the abbrev. is OK??) I work PT and do some hours from home to fit in with school - pretty boring spreadsheety stuff. Would love to give up, but it helps pay the bills....

I'm going to be a bit dim here - OU I assume is Open Uni, but what is assessment Q? What are you studying? I was considering starting an OU course, but given my procrastination habits not sure I'd cope!

Good luck with the rest of your work

ds home from nursery. Floor now covered in rice cake crumbs [pissed off & why do I bother]

Sorry, didn't read. Ou is open uni, this course is assessed throughout, with both tutor marked and computer marked assessments. I have one computer marked (CMA) due in in 9 days time, then 2 weeks to do the end of course TMA on the last 9mths study. It's maths btw.

I am terrible at procrastination, hence the mad rush! It is good in that I am not getting into debt studying, I qualify for grants, and that I can do it at my own speed.

Spreadsheets. Joy. anything involving the computer results in hours of messing about online

Hi all
I'm having a good day. Got a day to myself yesterday as DH took the kids out to make up for not being around the last few days. The weather is lovely, which helps and a hospital test with DD which I was dreading went fine this morning.

I'm also thinking very hard about what to do when DD starts school next year and am feeling more 'buzzy' than I have for a long time.

Knowing me though, I'll be feeling blue again by tomorrow!!!

Hi Janni - glad you are having a good day, let's hope the sun keeps shining for the rest of the week.

Swig - don't let the crumbs get to you - at least you've got crumbs on a clean floor, not crumbs on crumbs as I've got here! Dead impressed at OU maths btw.

Right, I must do some work!! Hope your afternoons go well.

Hi all.

I had a good weekend at Dads. Then felt all stressy yesterday when we were at home. I really don't like being in the house much (too many jobs). Took the kids to the park just to get out.

Lovely day today. Life is much easier when the sun shines.
