@stars345 @fara20 I also really struggle with the heat now - I was so confused why until I realised that one of the side effects of my Sertraline was increased sensitive to and intolerance of heat. Once it gets over a certain temperature, I just feel like I’m boiling alive and can’t breathe properly

fara20 · 11/05/2024 13:17

@robinshields that's useful to know. I haven't read that as a side effect of citalopram, but it would make sense if it is, as I have been overheating for years. GP didn't think it was the cause.

robinshields · 11/05/2024 13:21

@fara20

This article goes into it a little bit - I think it’s quite a new area of study: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-62496985.amp

I think the science is more known for tricyclic antidepressants, but it’s looking like SSRIs also impact on heat regulation

Heatwave in the UK

Some antidepressants may make heatwave challenging - BBC News

Some types of mental health medication may make it difficult for the body to regulate temperature.

stars345 · 11/05/2024 13:50

@Whycantgiraffesdance it's bad today because it's Saturday, it's hot, I have a 7 and 4 year old to entertain, there's people out everywhere, it sounds so trivial.
I'm out on the park with my children now and they are bright red and very grumpy, I thought coming here was the right thing to do but the kids are just miserable

fara20 · 11/05/2024 14:38

@robinshields Thanks very much for the link.

Whycantgiraffesdance · 11/05/2024 17:21

It doesn’t sound trivial at all @stars345 we all have our limits and this is just one of yours. I hope you can put the kids to bed tonite and have some chill time on your own? I have a 5 year old and a nearly 2 year old and I’m already counting down until bedtime! 🤣

fara20 · 11/05/2024 20:30

@stars345 it didn't sound trivial to me at all, I really felt for you.

Dawn1331 · 13/05/2024 14:55

@Whycantgiraffesdance just 3 miles but it's an absolute tip! Wish I could share pics on here! I'm glad everyone is mostly OK. @fara20 move to Aberdeenshire! @stars345 let me know how you get on at the psychotherapist. Maybe we should have our own counselling sessions and @Helplessandheartbroke can be the leader x

fara20 · 13/05/2024 15:04

@Dawn1331 I used to live in Aberdeen! Is that where you are?

Helplessandheartbroke · 13/05/2024 15:57

Hi all

Sorry I've been locked out of my account. How is everyone?

fara20 · 13/05/2024 16:23

Hi @Helplessandheartbroke glad you're back

fara20 · 13/05/2024 16:24

Hello@GoldPoet How are you feeling today?

fara20 · 13/05/2024 16:34

@Dawn1331 I don't think it ever got above 20 degrees the whole time I lived there.

Helplessandheartbroke · 13/05/2024 17:20

@fara20 Dawn had snow blizzards in April! Haha how is everyone?

I got far too drunk on Saturday and my anxiety has been up since x

Dawn1331 · 13/05/2024 20:20

@Helplessandheartbroke I did indeed and the gritter got stuck!
@fara20 the hotest I've felt it in 20 years is 23°.
In bed listening to the famous 5 - I'm rock and roll x

fara20 · 13/05/2024 20:41

@Dawn1331 I didn't mind at all that it didn't get hot in summer, but I found the winters hard to cope with.
The famous 5? You mean the Enid Blyton books?

Dawn1331 · 13/05/2024 21:10

@fara20 it's grim in winter. Yes my son is obsessed with them and we listen to it on his yoto at night before bed x

fara20 · 13/05/2024 21:27

@Dawn1331 That sounds lovely, glad the famous 5 are still going strong.

stars345 · 14/05/2024 12:29

@Helplessandheartbroke I find that my anxiety is terrible after being drunk. Even if I didn't do anything bad, i struggle with it much more.
Are you feeling better now?

I had a chat with my GP today. It was quite a long appointment and she asked me lots of questions. Medication is being increased and she has referred me to the mental health team, I'm trying so hard not to let the OCD win

jbiscuits · 14/05/2024 16:55

How long to you give meds before upping them/changing them? I've been on Sertraline 50mg for 4 weeks, then upped to 100mg for 4 weeks, which I thought were at least taking the edge off, but I've just had a terrible weekend filled with panic attacks and intrusive thoughts. Still feeling jittery today 🙁

Whycantgiraffesdance · 14/05/2024 17:05

I think generally they say give meds 3 months to make a real difference but I think it depends on the individual as well. I upped my meds last week and thought I was feeling a little better but have dipped again this week. There’s so much trial and error with mental health I hate it! X

robinshields · 14/05/2024 17:14

@jbiscuits Im sure you are, but thought it was worth saying just in case. With Sertraline, I really have to take it at the same time every day or within an hour at most. This was especially true in the first few months - if I wasn’t on it with taking it at exactly the same time then I felt dreadful really quickly.

Helplessandheartbroke · 14/05/2024 18:13

@stars345 I've always suffered beer fear. I don't know why I do it to myself. My ocd does not help! Do you feel better after your appointment?

I start my high intensity therapy tomorrow....
