@stillherenow how are you now? I’m day 20 and worse than ever.

stillherenow · 29/06/2022 12:23

Hello yes I'm sorry it's so hard, are you increasing to 20? I think that is the therapeutic dose. Hang on in there .

stillherenow · 29/06/2022 12:27

It might take 6 weeks or more on 20mg, but hopefully a sliding scale so you will gradually start to feel a little better. I'm still quite anxious despite the initial boost so it does take time

Painintheass22 · 01/07/2022 14:02

Day 22... still waiting for them to take effect

OP posts:
Painintheass22 · 04/07/2022 09:38

Still nothing, overthinking, anxiety etc still there. Maybe I need to up my dose even more? Any help would be appreciated

Anyone? Really hit an ultimate low today

FetchezLaVache · 05/07/2022 10:47

Hi lovely, I'd say you need to give them a bit longer to take effect, you've only had 4 or 5 days on the higher dose. Did you speak to your GP about the accompanying thoughts etc?

Painintheass22 · 05/07/2022 20:47

Hi @FetchezLaVache thank you for ur reply. I just feel like the last 3 weeks have been a nightmare and I’ve been like a zombie. I just wish I knew it will get better and not continue like this. I used to take my tablets with excitement knowing each one would bring me closer to feeling better, though tonight I really had to force it down. Haven’t spoke to my GP since last week, will ring on Friday morning and give it another couple of days. Just wish I could see the light, definitely thought I would have at this stage. Just absolutely shattered

faffadoodledo · 05/07/2022 21:49

Took it for around 2 years. It gave me breathing space and my brain a chance to remember how I used to be before PTSD and depression took over. I came off it gradually and still dip. But if it got intolerable again I'd start taking it again. No hesitation.

faffadoodledo · 05/07/2022 21:49

No side effects and no weirdness in the initial days and weeks either

Painintheass22 · 07/07/2022 10:46

Going to stop, this tiredness is unbearable. I can’t function

teddyclown · 07/07/2022 12:12

Hi OP, I haven't posted, but have been following your thread. I started 10mg Citalopram at about the same time as you, due to awful health anxiety and conjouring up all sorts of ailments in my head. I pushed through for three weeks until Monday evening, but what I thought was quite severe anxiety before was nothing compared to those past three weeks, I just couldn't function and have given up. I felt a bit better yesterday, but not doing so good today. I'm not going back to them though.
Just know that I am thinking of you.

Painintheass22 · 07/07/2022 12:49

@teddyclown hi, thank u for ur post. It’s bloody awful isn’t it! I was so adamant I would still with them and was excited to start feeling better. But absolutely nothing has changed only extreme tiredness added to everything. Four weeks tomorrow, I definitely thought at this point there would be a glimmer of hope. I feel as past month I’ve been on a different planet. My friend is encouraging me to give it another 2 weeks and if no improvement change to a different AD. I don’t know what to do. It’s just horrific. Would u not try a different one? Massive hugs to you x

OP posts:
teddyclown · 07/07/2022 13:15

No, I just can't face going through it all again. My doctor suggested trying something different, but no, I just can't. Ironically my son is a doctor and he was disappointed to hear I had given up with them, but I can't do it.
I'll wait until this is all out of my system and then perhaps have another think.
And massive hugs back Flowers

Painintheass22 · 07/07/2022 13:34

Oh @teddyclown its really horrible. I’m so sorry. Have u just went cold turkey or are u weaning off them? I was going to suggest we push through on them together for the next 2 weeks? We can support each other. It has to get better. I keep re-reading the comments on here and how it literally has changed peoples life’s and I just don’t understand how or why it’s not working. It’s frustrating. I’m torn what to do.

teddyclown · 07/07/2022 13:45

Like you, I was looking forward to them helping, but I made up my mind on Tuesday morning to stop. It was exactly three weeks this past Monday, so I'm just behind you.
I'm going cold turkey and so far no withdrawals, but am bracing myself!
I woke up with such awful dread every morning and my poor DH has been so supportive.
If you decide to continue then you have all my support. Flowers

Purplehonesty2 · 07/07/2022 15:25

Hi - just saw this - glad you've upped to 20mg as ten was never going to do the trick.

Give it another two weeks - my life was transformed on 20mg and I had such a happy 2/3 years. I no longer take them as I'm in a much better place in my life but I hope they will help you.

Painintheass22 · 07/07/2022 15:43

@teddyclown I’m glad u haven’t had no withdrawals. I’ve been on them before and give up after a couple of weeks, this time was different. I was for staying on them and pushed through the side effects til now. I just don’t see any light either. I’m still overthinking, short tempered etc. I’ve a lot going on and I needed something to take me through it all, but this is only making it worse. I thought four weeks in it would start to subside even slightly. Take each day as it comes @teddyclown and at least u have ur son to help u through it all too.

Painintheass22 · 07/07/2022 15:45

@Purplehonesty2 Thank you for ur post. Glad it’s helped you. I’m just so torn. How long did it take for the 20mg to take affect? It will be 2 weeks on Monday coming from I upped to 20mg and I’m just the same as I have been. I desperately need them to help me.

OP posts:
Purplehonesty2 · 07/07/2022 15:48

What are you actually taking them for?

I had awful mood swings and felt very sad all the time - just miserable. I used to get very angry around the time of my period which I think was PMDD

In all honesty I felt better after just a week but I did have trouble sleeping for the first couple of months.

Painintheass22 · 07/07/2022 16:08

@Purplehonesty2 same. Mood swings, miserable, snappy, intrusive thoughts, imaging scenarios that would never happen! It’s like my mind is in constant overdrive. After reading ur post I am going to give them another couple of weeks, I keep thinking I’m beyond help 😕

OP posts:
teddyclown · 07/07/2022 17:49

That's great news OP, I will keep checking back Flowers

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 07/07/2022 19:46

Do keep taking them. I was told it could be 6-8 weeks before noticing any real improvement and that it might get worse before it gets better. After about 2 weeks I can feel a subtle shift. I may not have noticed it, but I was listening to a song that I’d once sent to my ex which always made me cry. And I didn’t. Just that one moment made me realise that something has shifted and that the tears just aren’t as close to the surface as they have been for the last 7 months.

I also look in the mirror and think I look nice sometimes, which is most unusual! Feeling something positive about myself for the first time in a long time is a real revelation. You’ve come this far, give it a little more time and maybe one more increase in dose before you give it up. You deserve to be happy Flowers

Painintheass22 · 07/07/2022 21:00

@SteveHarringtonsChestHair thank you❤️ U deserve to be happy too. I’m just so disheartened. Do u think another increase could help? I will definitely ring doctor in morning. I just can’t understand it. I took it at 2pm today instead. I’m still so irritated by everything
