@stillherenow no I definitely won’t. I need reviewed in 2 weeks but dont think I could stick that long. They should be starting to work by now shouldn’t they

Doctor mentioned yesterday about upping my dose to 40mg in 2 weeks time if needed. I’m scared as this could send me over the edge(or possibly be the best thing ever) has anyone not succeeded on 20mg but did on 40mg?

any advice so so welcome

The Doctor will tell you what dose to start on. Then ideally you come down but they will tell you.

Purplehonesty2 · 14/07/2022 20:03

How are you today pain? X

Painintheass22 · 14/07/2022 21:44

@Purplehonesty2 still more or less the same. Shaking like a leaf which is very noticeable. Intrusive thoughts are crippling. It’s looking like it will be an increased dose or a change to either steraline or fluxotine x

Hi @Painintheass22 . I am so sorry the citalopram hasn't worked for you. If it's any help, I was on sertraline a few years ago and it worked well, but I can't have it any more because I'm on levothyroxine, apparently. Let us know how you get on. xx

Painintheass22 · 24/07/2022 12:44

So 6 weeks on and no massive difference

Due to ring doctor tomorrow to either increase dose again or change to another

Anyone?

OP posts:
FetchezLaVache · 25/07/2022 10:10

Hi @Painintheass22 , yes 6 weeks in they should be working.

I take it as a huge positive that you're planning to talk to the Dr and take his/her advice re upping dose or switching to something different, rather than just fully abandoning them. You'll get there in the end, I'm certain!

xx

Painintheass22 · 25/07/2022 12:56

Hi @FetchezLaVache

Today the GP has upped dose to 40mg. Nervous but if this doesn’t work then it’s changing to a different one. Fingers crossed 😣

Update... was increased to 40mg but chickened out and just went to 30mg for now. Over a week on them now and feel even worse... insomnia at night and tired all day. Heart palpitations really awful. Unsure what to do

Sounds like this is not the medication job for you. You may need to taper off so you don’t get massive withdrawal symptoms but you’ve given it a go and it’s clearly not working for you.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 02/08/2022 19:06

Why the fuck does my phone stick random words in everywhere!! Obviously job should not be in that sentence!

IR230622 · 02/08/2022 19:11

No positive stories to add I'm afraid 😢 but I really hope it works for you. If you find it doesn't after a while, please speak to your GP. Don't suffer in silence like I (stupidly) did.

Painintheass22 · 02/08/2022 19:55

@SteveHarringtonsChestHair def doesn’t seem to be the one for me. 7 weeks now in total so I have give it plenty of time. Doctor had said if I’m changing to another SSRI I can switch straight on to it because they are the same family of tablets. So either fluxotine or steraline. I just need something to work so badly 😐

@IR230622 did u also try medication too and it didn’t work? There has to be one out there that will work for me. It’s just finding it and quick. These heart palpitations even as I type are dreadful.

I was on citalopram for years but it gave me serotonin syndrome. It's very uncommon and happened because of other meds I'm on. It got really really bad at one point. But they switched me to sertraline which seems to be ok so far. I was on another one when I was first diagnosed with depression but it was so long ago I can't remember the name. It made me gain weight like crazy which made me even more depressed so quickly came off of it x

Painintheass22 · 02/08/2022 20:27

@IR230622 oh goodness that’s awful. I had to google it there. If u don’t mind me asking, what are u taking now? I’ve had to take 2x2mg diazepam here. Shouldn’t be this way. Heart palpitations are taking my breath away. It’s scaring me.

I'm on 50mg of sertraline. I was on 30mg of citalopram. But I also take Pregabalin, Amitriptyline, omeprazole, bisacodyl, zapain and propanol. Apparently it was the amitriptyline and citalopram combo that gave me the serotonin syndrome.
Defo ring your GP about the heart palpitations. Doesn't sound right to me, but I am not in a medical profession so it could be normal and I just don't know

SeaneenM999 · 02/08/2022 20:53

I've been on citalopram twice and both times it has saved my life. When I upped my dose it took a little longer to kick in and the side effects were worse than starting but I persevered. My personal opinion is if it hasn't done anything in 6 weeks then I would be trying a different one. I started on 20mg. It sounds to me as though 10mg hasn't been a high enough starting dose. I'm on a steady dose of 30mg and very stable. Your partner should understand your trying to push through the side effects so should be more understanding. I wish you the best of luck. Don't ever keep suffering. If its not citalopram it'll be a different one but one of them will suit you x

Painintheass22 · 03/08/2022 21:42

@IR230622 i didn’t take my AD yesterday at all. I was too scared. Today after being unable to get the doctor, I have decided to lower my dose back to 20mg. My palpitations are still here today but just ever so slightly. I couldn’t have endured another day of it. How are you finding the 50mg sertraline?

OP posts:
Painintheass22 · 03/08/2022 21:47

@SeaneenM999 so glad they helped you so much. Loved hearing stories like this and was excited to feel like this too but unfortunately it hasn’t happened...yet anyway. I’ve started on 10mg then up to 20mg then meant to start on 40mg but decided to stick to 30mg instead for now. That was last Monday. Yesterday was my first day missing a dose, I couldn’t face it. Today I took a 20mg. Was scared to take the 30mg. Just unsure what to do now. My partner doesn’t even know I’m taking AD’s...I didn’t know how to approach it.

I'm glad you're having a better day than you were yesterday. Hopefully you'll get through to your doctors soon. I've had no issues so far with my sertraline. Hopefully it stays that way but I'm not holding my breath

SeaneenM999 · 04/08/2022 20:55

How about trying propranolol? It's not an AD but it's very good for anxiety. When I first needed citalopram the doctor put me on 20mg of cit and 10mg of propranolol. The propranolol worked that much I was able to come off the cit straight away with no ill effects. Propranolol is also used for heart palpitations. I would definitely ask your GP about giving them a go. Your partner maybe doesn't know why your feeling the way you are, just tell and you never know they might just think god this is why she's been like this! Keep us all posted. All will work out x

Painintheass22 · 10/08/2022 23:29

Nope nope and nope. These tablets are just not working. I’ve cried all evening to the point I feel like completely giving up with everything. There has to be something else. Back to doctor in morning
