Hi everyone

Due to start citroplam today and I’m nervous. Been prescribed different AD’s over the years, take for a couple of weeks then stop. Due to googling and scaring myself. But I literally can’t go on the way I’m going on. I need help.

please tell me ur positive citroplam stories please.

big hugs to you all x

It sounds like 40 is the magic dose, so honestly having come this far I’d definitely want to give it a few weeks at 40 before giving up on it.

Having started on 10 to try and avoid side effects, I’m not expecting big things for a while yet, but just to have the edge taken off the bleakness feels like a win today. We can both get there, and if this isn’t the one, try another one x

Purplehonesty2 · 07/07/2022 23:05

Yes ring doc and say you still feel no better and can they up the dosage ?

You shouldn't get any worse side effects as you've been on them for a while.

I hope it works for you. Happy to chat if you want, anytime x

Citalopram saved my life. That sounds dramatic but it's true. I'm on them for life because I can't function without them. The way I look at it is that I wouldn't stop taking diabetes medication if I was diabetic. I wonder if you are looking for a miracle cure though as while they work and keep me at a good level, I still have down days and get too emotional. I still react to the stresses of life and have some anxieties like everyone else. Perhaps you might find 30 mg a good dose like I do.

I do hope it all settles down for you and you find the right dose.

stillherenow · 08/07/2022 10:40

With me so far, I still feel the same anxieties but I don't spiral. Eg I had a slightly worry about the dog last night but instead of spiralling, calling the emergency vet etc, I sat calmly with him for a while , realised he was ok and then went to bed without a second thought wheres before I'd have put the camera on and lay watching him half the night . I also don't get the physical feeling of dread in my chest.

I'm very happy to stay on them for life. I'm tempted by going up to a higher dose but I think I'm going to work on other strategies first eg I lve stopped doing exercise and seeing friends due to being in a constant state of panic but now am probably able to.

So I'm still an anxious person , but it's not out of control. I've been on 20mg for about 4 weeks now I think

Painintheass22 · 08/07/2022 15:45

So.... got chatting to my doctor, he told me to stay on tablets at 20mg for another 2 weeks then we can think about upping the dose. He said he couldn’t understand the tiredness as Citropalm has no sedatives. He said more than likely it’s just exhaustion. He said give it another couple
of weeks and add in exercise etc again. I haven’t done absolutely nothing as past month so I need to do this as he said this goes hand in hand with the medication.

Citalopram is well known for being sedating in many patients. Hence it's often best taken in the evening as it can help improve sleep.
Was this a Gp you talked to?
The sedating effect might persist or wear off after a while. Antidepressants can take a few weeks to kick in so don't up the dose for a few weeks so you can be assess the effect first.
Look up the side effects of citalopram online. My son is on Escitalopram which is essentially a slightly different form of the same drug and it's definitely sedating.

Painintheass22 · 10/07/2022 09:50

Hi @Cantonet yes this was a doctor I spoke to. I have already upped from 10mg to 20mg. I am lost what to do

@Purplehonesty2 i have kept re-reading your posts all night and morning willing me on to take them. I had the most dreadful day yesterday after taking it and a horrendous night. Shaking this morning and my mind is in overdrive. I just feel like giving up completely

MrsMcisaCt · 10/07/2022 10:00

OP I'm sorry you are suffering so much, it sounds horrible. I think you need to keep talking to your GP so they know exactly what you are going through. Citalopram doesn't suit everyone. I hope you get the right help lovely, and start feeling much better soon x

Purplehonesty2 · 10/07/2022 10:01

You don't drink any fizzy stuff do you? I had a terrible Diet Coke habit that I had to kick.

Stopped about six months ago as I couldn't sleep and was getting awful headaches

I had two last night at a dance and I literally haven't slept a wink and my heart is racing.

Purplehonesty2 · 10/07/2022 10:03

But I would have thought if it was going to help (the citalopram) it would have by now.

Worth speaking to GO again x

Painintheass22 · 10/07/2022 10:17

Thank u @MrsMcisaCt will ring in morning again. I just don’t understand why it isn’t working. I thought at this point I would start having some peace in my mind. 4 weeks now and I feel like I’m getting worse.

OP posts:
Painintheass22 · 10/07/2022 10:18

@Purplehonesty2 i very rarely drink fizzy drinks. I’m just at a lost. Will speak to GP in morning. A friend of mine is on fluxotine and swears by it. I though Citropalm was the one for me

OP posts:
Painintheass22 · 10/07/2022 22:51

Can’t go on like this. Feel like I’ve completely lost my mind

OP posts:
MrsMcisaCt · 11/07/2022 17:56

I hope you managed to speak to someone today @Painintheass22 x

Painintheass22 · 11/07/2022 19:05

@MrsMcisaCt i did. A different doctor. A better one. She’s prescribed me 10 diazepam to take edge off and if I still feel same then review me in 2 weeks and up dose. I am just in pieces why they aren’t working. My relationship is on the verge on a breakup because of it

OP posts:
MrsMcisaCt · 11/07/2022 19:09

I'm sorry to hear that about your relationship. I hope the diazepam do take the edge off and things improve for you really soon. Well done for speaking to a Dr today. X

Painintheass22 · 11/07/2022 19:32

Starting to think I would maybe be better on a different AD. Like fluxotine to see how it goes. I think Citropalm just is not agreeing with me. I lay in bed all morning crying

OP posts:
Painintheass22 · 12/07/2022 11:12

This is a nightmare. I’m an emotional mess. I can’t stop crying. This is truely horrific. I think I am going to stop. I can’t take this anymore I’m really at a lost

OP posts:
MrsMcisaCt · 12/07/2022 12:11

I hope you can speak to someone again today so they can advise you on the safest way to come off them. Sending a hand hold xx

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 12/07/2022 12:12

Sorry to hear it’s not working for you. Speak to your GP about swapping - it sounds like even before the citalopram that you were struggling so just not taking anything won’t solve the problem. Try another one, and then another, until you find the one that helps you x

stillherenow · 12/07/2022 12:21

Yes I've read on here that sometimes people have to try different medications before finding one that fits. Sorry it's not helped OP

Painintheass22 · 12/07/2022 12:34

@SteveHarringtonsChestHair

it sounds like even before the citalopram that you were struggling so just not taking anything won’t solve the problem.

so true. I definitely need something that agrees with me. I took a diazepam last night to take edge off and it didn’t help. I’m in complete turmoil. I don’t deserve to feel like this. I’m was excited to take them at start after reading so many positive stories but my luck it hasn’t worked. My heart is broke . Maybe I’m beyond help. That’s how it feels

OP posts:
Painintheass22 · 12/07/2022 12:35

how are u finding them @stillherenow x

OP posts:
stillherenow · 12/07/2022 12:37

They work for me . But I was prepared I might need to try a few before finding the right one, I have definitely read that in my researching for this , so you will find a fit . Keep going and speaking to your GP. Don't come off them without advice .
