hello Smile

Just managed to check local council re wasps, and will have a chat with them tomorrow. Only two more email sites to check before bed, then I'll be happy to spout lines (reading or ad-libbing) on stage, if I can have a similar costume to your DH - where on earth do you find these things?

I do actually have the modern Oxford edition of Canterbury Tales, just because DH bought it for himself (my choice at the time being a Frank Lloyd Wright book holding no interest for him). I did actually have a read once, but still find it difficult to understand and doubt it would be popular entertainment, despite crazy clothes.

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 23:47

Glad you found some useful info , shodatin, & hope problem will soon be solved .

Very interested that your husband liked Chaucer & you like Frank Lloyd Wright . Went to a very funny adaptation of the Tales which my non - mediaevally -attuned ears had no diffulty with , so it can be done , verily < searches net for that script to no avail >

Have a posset of honey ( vegan cyberhoney for those who prefer it ) & glance over the mobile museum exhibits before bed , if I haven't crossposted and missed you ...just seen a thread about the ISS being visible , if not too late for you

ThisIsANiceCage · 27/06/2011 00:23

Did I miss anything? Oh, lots. Blush

My goodness you've been busy! Ha, your DH looks fab in his declaiming outfit, hob. And I bet shodatin looked just as splendid in hers.

Alas tired and grumpy today, after over-excitement yesterday. 'Tis often the way. Wink

ThisIsANiceCage · 27/06/2011 00:25

Oooh, glittery things at bedtime! Thank you, hob!

ThisIsANiceCage · 27/06/2011 00:27

What a thoroughly amazing show you put on, hob. Thank you so much.

shodatin · 27/06/2011 00:29

Just back from finding ISS thread, and thank you so much for that as I'll be able to try viewing other times and pass info to Thai friend (who was able to impress family and visitors exclaiming about UFOs a while back but missed seeing it herself).

Thanks also for latest link - this is almost as good as going out in the evening- which I hope to view before bed because I'm sure its interesting, but I feel very behind as laptop's so slow and getting very tired (not used to all the excitement and it's years since I went anywhere half as amusing).

A final Brew and will wish everyone a good night. You deserve a prize hob, for one of the best parties ever (although I missed a chance to sample any cake), and I will take your word for the Chaucer adaptation being understandable and funny. Hope others enjoyed the fun too, and thanks again.(off to view exhibits en route bed)

ThisIsANiceCage · 27/06/2011 00:30
ThisIsANiceCage · 27/06/2011 00:33

Back to bed here, too. Hob hope you're not too exhausted after your magnificent labours today.

Wishing sweet sleep for all.

cityhobgoblin · 27/06/2011 09:40

oh , strop - once again I fall asleep whilst trying to reply to you lovely people and pointing you to the music tent where these boys were setting up to play all night long , should you wake up in need of entertainment ( I still can't persuade them to pack up and go home so our entertainment license will probably never be renewed )

Sorry you had a day of feeling wiped out and grumpy yesterday TIANC , bah a billion times over . Hope today's heat won't have you in bed all day , but if so , that you'll still be able to listen to an undemanding audiobook / email friends now & then - I'm sure those are a distant dream on bad days .

Thank you for joining in so enthusiastically with the frolicking & arranging lots yourself ( and dh blushed at your complimenting him on his glamourous stage appoearance ). There were posts from you & shodatin, bringing out lovely food etc , that I didn't see at the time as was using Firefox .

Glad you found ISS thread , shodatin - will look out for it myself & hope your friend sees it - love the UFO expertise she was able to display Grin Thank you for your enthusiastic partying & I fear I'll have tired you out - that last museum link wasn't active , sorry - will resend it along with a slice of the cake you missed yesterday .

Wish you could indeed have the RL outings you'd love , & hope you can find some ( pale )substitutes on the net ...lots of art and museum collections online now , joy joy .

Hope council are helpful re : miserable task of removing wasps ( which they are more likely to be ) ...we've had wasp nests near house twice and they do become scary & dangerous at height of summer , so you're doing the only safe thing for your neighbour .
Amazing sun today , so must crack on with chores before warmth gives me an excuse for a lovely nap ...

Hope snowmash's room isn't horribly hot today , and that madmouse , kizzie , pixie & butterpie have good days

cityhobgoblin · 27/06/2011 09:42

hmmm ( sorry so hyper - I get like this when busy Blush C'mon boys , work this time ! ( saw theem play a tiny basement they'd been mistakenly booked into , so am sure they'd be garacious enough to play snowmash's party )

shodatin · 27/06/2011 10:54

Hello hob, and thanks for the museum link, which I managed to view. It was an improvement on the first photos, so thanks for info. Been politely vague about cake so far, but I just don't eat it and know some much better calories, so please don;t send more, others can share mine, which is normally what happens, and no-one minds as long as their rations are increased.
A very late morning here, I awoke at 4.30 a.m. with light on and Sunday paper in place, luckily in bed but not rested, so behind today and need to get on, back later.

cityhobgoblin · 27/06/2011 15:16

Shock When will I remember that you pass your cake to friends , shodatin - sorry , I try not to put out too many sweeties but forget about celebration cake < hob the sugar addict feeling smug having just nibbled oatcakes >

I too fell asleep before turning out light etc - on sofa , dh having 'flu - but have been lucky to have enough energy to Mumsnet for hours get on with chores , so I hope yours are getting done too , shodatin , though the sultry weather may be tiring you . Your brother is due to visit tomorrow , I think ? Hope you have a lovely peaceful day & that you get a good night's sleep first.

Hope everyone on snowmash's thread gets some relaxation this afternoon.

kizzie · 27/06/2011 16:49

Somebody pass a fan - quick!

It is sooo hot here today. Not nice hot - very 'muggy'. ALthough I can really feel the storm brewing so rain shouldnt be too far away.

Just a quick hello - and hope you are all ok.

I did Canterbury Tales as part of my degree - did absolutely nothing for me :-)

x

shodatin · 27/06/2011 17:59

Hello Kizzie, good to see you again and agree with you about the horrible heat. Thai friend was here earlier, and she didn't like it either, which surprised me a bit as I thought it would remind her of home.
Hope you're keeping well and not over-doing it in the heat, and I hope you're right about the rain. We've had so much forecast recently and so little arrived, I wouldn't be surprised if drought continued here. How are your recovering shrubs doing, I wonder?

Limnanthes look good (and fresh) in their flowering position, so thanks again to hob who found them.

cityhobgoblin · 27/06/2011 22:32

Thank you so much for telling me about the progress of the Limnanthes , shodatin, you are kind . Hope you do get the forecast rain later on . Hope you enjoyed yopur friend's visit.

Enjoyed the sultry weather today then , kizzie ?
< passes kizzie more ice and a roller ball of headache - combatting oils in case storm hasn't broken yet >
Grin Oh no , didn't a single line make you laugh ? I'm baffled by the proper Chaucer-era English but can struggle along with a bit of an update ... I think you & shodatin are classy ladies who wouldn't have been attracted to the amateur version I saw on stage , with bottoms out of windows etc

< delicate cordials all round > Hope everyone is OK and relaxing in our cool cybergarden

shodatin · 27/06/2011 22:44

Hope you're OK hob, and not suffering exhaustion with yesterday's organising, today's temperature and your DH's 'flu. I missed chasing up one of your references for music, as the link didn't work, everything's slow on the laptop and I'm now suffering badly with the heat, having had to mop my face for a solid twelve hours (normally only mornings).

Yes, brother has confirmed visit, so I'm hopeful of laptop improvement, and dear Thai friend plans to make him curry with pork to take home after visit, remembering our trip to visit him while in hospital. (She also confirms that my

beasties are wasps, and council are a good choice for clearance, so now I just have to wait for their phone call) Sorry, I don't know what's happening to the line system and don't want to risk losing the lot, as happened earlier.

shodatin · 27/06/2011 22:47

Back with a reminder: ISS due to fly over soon, at 10.57 p.m. travelling W to SE for anyone interested in viewing, and if not too cloudy tonight.

cityhobgoblin · 27/06/2011 23:10

Thank you , shodatin ! Have been looking but not seen itunless it's moving a lot slower than usual Grin Really hope you get a glimpse before bed - you poor thing suffering so with this heat - it's not been unbearable down south like recent years , for which I'm very grateful ( am fine , many thanks , but will need extra zzzzz s - hope TIANC not suffering too much ).

Hope you have a decent sleep so you can enjoy tomorrow - come on , storm - break ! Get well soon wishes to your laptop.

cityhobgoblin · 27/06/2011 23:14

Sorry, forgot to say glad in the scheme of things your visitors are wasps , and hope the phone call comes soon . Your Thai friend sounds extraaordinarily kind
< off to point at sky >

cityhobgoblin · 27/06/2011 23:24

We saw it shodatin ! Very exciting !! Would have completely forgotten otherwise .

Hoping snowmash has a comfortable night and has seen the sky tonight

shodatin · 27/06/2011 23:58

So pleased you saw the ISS hob, particularly as you're the one who alerted me to the viewing. Unfortunately only clouds visible overhead, but will set alarm for tomorrow at 9.58 and hope by then rainclouds will have emptied and left. Someone mentioned it making a noise going by, which surprises me, but could have misunderstood, unless you heard the noise? Seems too far away to be possible.

Will say "goodnight" now, as it could be late by the time I've checked emails and got back, using Firefox here still (but contemplating Chrome now).

ThisIsANiceCage · 28/06/2011 01:20

Seriously, hob you saw these boys play? (Just been enjoying your New York Dolls.) Cor!

Sympathy to everyone who had a disrupted night - and then disrupted day. shodatin, sounds like the heat has been dreadfully uncomfortable for you today. Sad Come on, rain! Where are you?

Hope snowmash, madmouse, butterpie and pixie survived the swelter, too. Did I see something about cool drinks in the cybergarden?

Cloud here too, tonight, so unidentifiable shiny things twinkling off and on tantalisingly...

Have just looked up orbiting height of ISS and found this. With air molecules typically 1 km apart, I can't imagine any sound would be transmitted - it's not actually a vacuum, but nearly. And as you say, the distance would attenuate any sound even if there were a medium to transmit it. Someone getting over-excited about an aircraft, perhaps?

And v fine here, thank you. Rested and de-grumped by afternoon. Smile Even got some gardening done under the scorching sun, so unusually chuffed.

Hope everyone gets good rest and recuperation tonight, heat notwithstanding, and that shodatin is re-combobulated by the time visitors arrive tomorrow.

Night all.

shodatin · 28/06/2011 09:40

Morning all and thanks for last night's postings. Some rain here, but not enough to make a difference so today's still hot and heavy and horrible - hope others are managing better than I am here! And many thanks for thoughtful water, TIANC, am dropping off some crisps ( amateur effort at salt-replacement), which I have in these days, and non-alcoholic fizzy stuff for day-to-day cooling while sitting around in heat.
