DP has offered to bring us hot snacks as the air cools.

His tastes are eclectic, so suggests platters of sausages on sticks, cheese straws, tempura (prawns, squid and aubergine rounds), wontons with sweet & sour dipping sauce. Any other requests?

cityhobgoblin · 25/06/2011 23:21

oooooooh , belated thank you to TIANC's kind dp . Are we allowed to use that MN - prohibited On Nom Nom here ? Sounds gorgeous . Aubergine is my very favourite , thank you < tries to look dainty > and I have already made severe inroads into the supply of cheese straws . Will try not to make my customary mess dipping lovely delicacies now.

Would it be possible to have some sorbet , if available ? Many thanks

< touched >

shodatin · 25/06/2011 23:25

Hello again, I got distracted trying to listen to links, did find some but couldn't get any sound at all so imagined some Palestrina, which was lovely and an excellent choice for summer evening. Not impressed with Jan Steen's party; surely they must have had enough staff to put some chairs outside?
How kind of your DP, TIANC, to bring us some grown-up food! (And aren't you lucky to have such consideration). I shall be going over the evening in my mind before going to sleep, so it will be (almost) a memory.

ThisIsANiceCage · 25/06/2011 23:35

Sorbet at your service! Lemon, blackcurrant or some "experimental" morello cherry sorbet that he's now getting ideas about...

(And fabulously lucky to have him. Quite Blush to be so boastful...)

shodatin · 25/06/2011 23:36

Oh hob, am so pleased you like aubergine; I'd put some on my plate before realising what it was, so please please have mine. I haven't licked it, not at all (remembering sister's party trick).
I wonder if it's possible to have alcohol at a cyber-party, without feeling the effects on one's tablets? Champagne would be lovely to round off the evening, and would go well with our assorted snacks. I do hope so (longingly)...

cityhobgoblin · 25/06/2011 23:41

Oh how lovely to mull it over like that , shodatin - another brilliant idea of yours which I'll adopt for remembering nice events. Sorry link not playing audio for you - may be the site .

Apologies for not seeing posts by you and TIANC at noon , and for missing *TIANC's post about dh walking around our guests and being astonished by them . I couldn't managed to link to the socialist choir I wanted to show you in the music tent , but the high class people were suitably edified & inspired by the songs sung . < smug >

[grin} at lack of chairs , shodatin - all evening I've been trying to linl to a Dutch c17th one featuring a village fete turned evening party , & that has plenty of chairs , which I'll make sure to put out again for tomorrow.

For tomorrow , I'm thinking riotous Brueghel style revelry , with areas dotted about for extreme relaxation

ThisIsANiceCage · 26/06/2011 00:01

Oh hob, you are the bestest party organiser ever! Grin

DP's apologies about the crypto-tempura, shodatin - bit of a lucky dip in all that batter...

ThisIsANiceCage · 26/06/2011 00:03

And when we all have a glass of the bubbly, can I ask you to raise it to,

"The cybergardeners: snowmash, madmouse, hob, shodatin, kizzie, butterpie, Pixie, TIANC, and all our visitors."

ThisIsANiceCage · 26/06/2011 00:24

Slurry cheer of "night night"!

Sleep well all!

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 00:26

You lovely , lovely person , TIANC !!! Cheers to snowmash and all her cybergardeners < sips >

Gorgeous champagne & hope we all have a refreshing sleep & lie in after our exertions ( have booked entertainments for noon onwards but there will be areas for extreme of languidness throughout afternoon )

There may be music / luvvieness later on , if we feel like it ...

shodatin · 26/06/2011 01:23

Have to go to bed now, but thankyou for a lovely evening and to hob for organising best-ever garden party. Night all.Smile

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 12:11

Thank you so much shodatin ! Nope , am the least inventive party organiser on this thread but very enthusiastic Blush Really wish I hadn't accidentally dozed off when you were still up , partying on . Hope everyone's had a lovely long sleep.

Hmmm, we need cakes for snowmash 's party - lots of cupcakes < here you are, mouseling > and at least one multi -tiered one to celebrate her being almost out - perhaps two , one for day , & an evening one
Here are some tasteful ones waiting at the food tent

<a class="break-all" href="http://www.justcake.com/fwww.justcake.com/flash_index.phplash_index.php" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.justcake.com/fwww.justcake.com/flash_index.phplash_index.phpwww.justcake.com/flash_index.phphttp://www.justcake.com/flash_index.php www.dipity.com/timetube/YouTube_Django/to start our long , languid afternoon with his pleasant noodlings ( thanks dh )

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 12:25

Music link doesn't work so www.dipity.com/timetube/YouTube_Django/sic

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 12:34

Hmm, not sure that one works either but might lack of RAM here ... any 50s rock'n'roll suggestions shodatin , or of any other type of course? Bet TIANC will be a long later with a good song or two .

Calm down hob , long , languid day ... would we like some nice craft workshops for people to join in in leisurely fashion ? Not just for youngters , dragging all ages in ....and some theatre workshops later ? heh heh [grin}

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 12:39

oops , not a [grin} as well ...all this sunshine is going to my head already < off to ice cream stall >

shodatin · 26/06/2011 14:42

Hello again hob, and once again, I'm grateful to you for some super links - really enjoyed some Rheinhardt which I'd not even thought about for many years. Wish I could think of some music, but it's almost missing from my life since I was widowed because of memories (and I'm delaying a repair to the messed up car cassette system because I should really replace the car...)
Apologies for delay here - sister just Skyped for ages, apart from laptop still being very inefficient.
My primary interest in this afternoon's festivities is in the relaxation areas I believe you mentioned earlier. Sorry to be so wet but neighbour informs me I have either bees or wasps in my loft, so I need to establish which then plan to get them removed if necessary, and after that I'll be needing one of our steamer chairs for a little nap. Back soon after I've done a recce outside.

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 15:17

Hi shodatin , please take care checking for critters . I remember now that you mentioned most music feels too poignant now , so will try to find horrible noise you may not have heard .

< plays but doesn't link to , lovely tocattas and fugues for shodatin's nap >

There's a dressmaking workshop in our garden now for those who wishing to fashion cloaks and pointy slippers for open air theatre later

and giant paper for daubinng with cool coloured paints

and a classical quartet in the music tent

and cupcake decorating for mouseling & friends

shodatin · 26/06/2011 16:33

I wonder how many of these parties you've organised, hob? Seriously, there are some wonderful ideas for a warm afternoon, even for the non-active visitors, just wish my brain (as well as body) could/would co-operate.

No further news on beasties flying around - I'm too short-sighted to tell what they are unfortunately, and they're flying too fast to focus on, so will
just hope I wake up with brilliant solution to dealing with them.

I think I missed tea-time, so Brew glad we have plenty of refreshments, and do I see cucumber sandwiches arriving on the replacement plates? First ones this year, and there ought to be a wish custom, like the first mince-pie at Christmas .

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 17:24

Kind shodatin , never organised a party in my life , apart from wedding . ( Mind out , there's a long queue of toddlers demanding to be tiger - striped ) I feel very airy - fairy in this heat , usually try not to be as pretentious in RL ! Sorry your mind as well as body isn't cooperating - have more humous and dip & a veggie spring roll , or a sorbet if you're onto the sweet ..

Have you looked up wasp nest problem on your local council's pest control page , if laptop won't cooperate ? Everyone dreads this problem but I believe it's usually quite simple to sort , though that's not much consolation .

What a lovely idea to have a summertime "wish" delicacy as well as Xmas etc one - a tradition I might borrow , if I may .

Aren't these children tired out yet ? They've been helping the allotment holders on the other side of the church ( next to our cybergarden ) to pick strawberries & raspberries for the cream teas stall- does mouseling like picking berries ?
< hands wet wipes to madmouse & begs shodatin, TIANC ,kizzie and butterpie* for help with cream tea rush - tsssk , they're helping themselves to far too much as they go along >

As it's so very hot I ordered a mobile museum / art gallery exhibition for people to float around peacefully, with wheelie chairs for those requiring VIP tour by the curator .

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 17:48

Jusst saw a lovely band on the Glastonbury coverage which would cool us down on this baking day , but if I can't persuade them into our garden , may I commend to you these young hopefuls , just started in the music tent

shodatin · 26/06/2011 17:56

Another marvellous idea hob, wouldn't it be just wonderful to have a mobile museum/art gallery, and the chairs for real comfort and relaxation! I think you have a new career as a party-organiser, seriously!

Second marvellous idea to check website of council - thankyou - because I gave up on Yellow Pages. By myself, I'd do nothing, having had bees in a previous house, and missed their friendly noise when they eventually moved out (or maybe died), but they're close to neighbours' door so will take action soonest.

Will start lucky cucumber sandwich tradition in East Yorks if you'll start it close to home. Brother due Tuesday - Real Men Eat Anything - so we'll have a couple of sandwiches between lunch and laptop investigation and make a wish.

shodatin · 26/06/2011 21:45

Have just managed to catch up with your last post, and surprised I didn't hear that band without electronic assistance! What an amazing noise, and all completely new to me - had to play a bit more from them just so I 'll recognise them next time round. My interest in pop stopped with the Stones actually, partly due to time abroad, and partly because of DH,so you can imagine I've missed a great deal, and that band was certainly a surprise.
Once again, thank you for the entertainment (and I hope snowmash enjoys the band as a change from Palestrina).

cityhobgoblin · 26/06/2011 22:03

OH noooooSadSad I was kept away most of the evening by unexpected errands - I hope you're all in the theatre audience atm, watching Chaucerian type caperings

Thank you so much shodatin , you are the loveliest person - I particularly applaud your great love of bees ! Hope you get some theatrical viewing in before you sleep ...looking for a link ...and thank you for subjecting yourself to the horrors of that wonderful band I booked for the music tent , still going now after over 30years . I haven't been paying much attention to new music UK myself for about 15 years , but will try when I can . Are you / were you a Stones fan ?
