@lechatnoir I have a fairy early dinner and have usually finished by 615pm ish so it fits in with breaking my fast mid morning which feels doable. I didn't manage an 18 hour fast today, I was soooo hungry this morn so lasted 17 hours and then had banana on toast with honey (delicious!)

lechatnoir · 14/01/2025 12:01

Morning all,

My day of clean whole foods didn't quite go to plan with chocolate & popcorn at the cinema 😆. I wasn't going to fast today but decided I needed it so 15 hours into the first of 3 days fasting 16:8. I'm hoping I can eek to 18:6 but will need to eat bit earlier tonight. Does anyone else struggle with a really late lunch if breaking a fast? I can do 18 hours no problem if it's 7pm - 1pm, but eat later and push my lunch back much past 1:30pm and I really struggle.

Depends if I’m busy. I went 24 hrs no problem because I was out and didn’t have the opportunity to eat. Other times if I’m at home it can be more of a struggle.
Great surprise @jumpintheline and I hope I follow on with a loss on Friday too.
@SeekingTreasures feom what I’ve read and listened to on podcasts, eating more refined carbs means your body needs to retain water to store them if we don’t use them for energy. IFor every 1gram of carb, we store 4 grams of water to store it. With salty food it’s because it makes the body hold on to sodium which increases the fluid in our bodies. It definitely affects the scales temporarily if ive had more pasta or bread than usual.
18 hr fast
lunch: chickpea salad with olives, tomatoes, cucumber, radish, celery and carrot with a balsamic dressing An apple.
dinner: lean pork mince lasagne with less white sauce and cheese and one lasagne layer will be leeks. I will have mine with a green salad.

3rd kettle bell workout later and a dog walk.

Should edit to say carbs in general not just refined carbs, but it is easier to eat too many refined carbs than other types.

@SeekingTreasures i don’t really understand the water retention theory either but thank you @greengreyblue for adding some context. The logic seems sound!

I might switch tactics and weigh more regularly for a few weeks and see what the overall trend is. A kilo overnight seems ridiculous - especially when it can take weeks to shift that. Our scales are good and relatively new; I don’t have any reason to mistrust them.

Fasted 19 hours again. Had a wholemeal bagel with ham, beetroot, tomato and avocado with mayo for lunch. Apple and peanut butter snack, plus some grapes. I did pick at the kids tea but not much! Have had haricot beans with spinach and an egg for dinner. No alcohol!

Ilikeyoursleeves · 14/01/2025 20:02

@jumpintheline what scales do you have? I bought some Renpho ones a few months ago and got a huge shock at the reading, they read nearly half a stone more than my old manual scales! Unfortunately they are accurate as I checked the measurements with some 500g bags of pasta 😩

They fluctuate quite a bit though from day to day as they are very sensitive. Prob impacted by water relation, if you've been to the loo or not, time of the month etc. I've found I oscillate a few pounds between days which can't be 'real' weight?

Ilikeyoursleeves · 14/01/2025 20:05

Today for lunch I had homemade scotch broth soup, a slice of toast and an orange.

Dinner was the last of the soup plus risotto with chicken and roasted veg. And a few After Eights (still eating Xmas food!!)

Also walked 15k steps today ☺️ Weigh in is tomo morn after 2 weeks of fasting! Fingers crossed that increase from the other day will be back down...

Lovely healthy posts! Anyone else been watching The Glucose Goddess? I’m interested in the food order and also vinegar/ acid on carbs.

I weighed this morning and was down to 9st 5 1/2. I was very pleasantly surprised but I’m not sure it will stay at that. I have a tendency to fluctuate up and down for the first few days at a new weight.

I sometimes weigh myself before going to bed and I am usually up to 3lb heavier last thing at night than I am first thing in the morning. And if I have a day where I have been slightly constipated and haven’t been to the toilet then j can be even more!

greengreyblue · 14/01/2025 20:29

Brilliant @Rollergirl11 !🥳

Just catching the last half now.

Gentle 15 hour fast.

L: Homemade veg soup (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, courgette) with homemade sweet potato muffins, very virtuous!
D: ramen with broccoli and tofu

They are Eufy, according to my husband! They’re digital. Love that you tested yours with bags of flour 😂
Cycle fluctuations is definitely a thing for me. My period finished last week so I thought I was out of all that bloating and extra weight, but perhaps that was still subsiding. Who knows! I’ll try and weigh daily and see what the overall trend is I think.
Going to the loo is a valid point. I do think I’ve been a bit constipated recently, when I am usually very regular!

wahoo!
I defo see the difference morning vs night too! I always weigh in the morning for that reason.

I only weigh first thing, naked and after a number 2! 😳😉

Here are the ‘ hacks’ but generally good advice to keep insulin spikes low. Insulin spikes mean your body will start to store fat so it’s a good idea to keep spikes low and insulin more even. Note she advocates a savoury breakfast but she has said that ‘ breakfast’ is whenever your first meal is so that fits with most of us eating at lunchtime. It’s all science backed and I’ve heard the same/ similar advice from other experts such as Dr Jason Fung. I think she has just presented it in an easily understandable way.

Hi there !
That's so interesting about the reasons for water retention @greengreyblue . Thanks for taking the time to explain that.
I'm looking forward to reading about glucose and insulin spikes.

On top of 16/8 , I'm generally trying to avoid carbs whilst shifting my fat. Today, I've got weighed and am happy to have got rid of a kilo this week ! I'm really pleased about that !

I hope you all have a good start to your day ! Looking forward to reading you soon. Smile

SeekingTreasures · 15/01/2025 07:00

Monday it was 64.6
Tuesday 63.5
Wednesday 62.4

Does that mean it will be 61.3 tomorrow??!!!

@greengreyblue lol here's the answer!!

The weight of your poop varies. It depends on several factors:
• body size
• eating habits
• how much water you drink
• bowel movement regularity
The average poop weighs around 1/4 pound to 1 pound.
Larger people who eat and drink more, or people who have less-regular bowel movements, have heavier poops. It takes an average of 33 hours for food to be processed into poop and pass out of your body.
🤣
