Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

@Queencam @greengreyblue At the risk of being "That" woman Grin please be carefu about even joking about the benefits of weight loss after a bout of illness. that way lies eating disorders! Terrifies me as I remember these sorts of jokes at school/university and some of those women have had some very difficult times battling EDs subsequently. I recently received a newsletter from my school year and there were a couple of pictures of women on there that made me think, "oh dear". Thank goodness only one definite and one maybe, but it was a bit of a shock even after all these years.

In all fairness I would say that the subject of IF in general would be hugely triggering for anyone with an ED because of the very nature of this way of eating being based on restriction. I wouldn’t expect anyone with an ED to be active on these threads and would hope they would never practice IF. DD (18) was diagnosed with Anorexia when she was 15. I have to be beyond discrete with this diet because if she knew I was restricting when I eat she would be very triggered.

Yes absolutely important to be mindful.

it’s a balance isn’t it, and I feel on this thread the weight loss motivations are healthy and we look after ourselves and nourish our bodies.

Also feel extremely grateful to have never suffered with an ED as they are clearly horrifying and destroy lives.

Hope your daughter is doing much better now @Rollergirl11

Queencam · 22/11/2024 19:44

Fasted 16 hours today and had Welsh rarebit pub lunch with some chips. Have also had some Pringles and white wine. Not ideal… DH is making black beans and guacamole baked nachos for dinner. Fairly white carby day which is not like me!

Agree. I have two young adult daughters and am always mindful of what I do and say around them and don’t demonise any food. My one DD that’s at home has no idea I skip breakfast. I’ve always eaten healthily so my food choices are normal to her.
My comment was a joke and of course I don’t think a sickness bug has an upside in terms of weight loss but I accept that not everyone would understand what I meant and other’s experiences are different.
Had a glass of red wine with dinner and it knocked me out for an hour. So tired. Havin g a cup of green tea now with I’m a Celebrity then bed. Such an exciting Friday night.😴

Risked another weigh this morning as I felt I’d lost this week. I am down half a pound!
SW: 10st 6
CW: 9st 9 / 61.4kg
TW: 9st 7
I feel good at this weight though.

Rollergirl11 · 23/11/2024 08:59

Thanks @Queencam. She is in recovery but definitely has blips along the way.

With Anorexia, or any ED, the weight loss is only a part of it, the physical side affect. It js much more of a psychological illness and the malnourishment that comes from starving yourself feeds in to it, like a vicious circle. For my daughter she uses not eating as a way to regulate her emotions. So when she was more anxious and stressed than usual (she is a very anxious person by nature anyway and is on medication to cope with it) in the summer when she sat her A levels, she started to restrict again as a coping mechanism to make herself feel better. The eating disorder taps in to your inner voice so is always present, trying to find a way to wheedle itself back in so the sufferer and family have to be forever vigilant. It never completely goes away.

I have been fluctuating up and down by 1lb the last 2 weeks but have been 9 st 9 the last few days so hoping I will stick at this weight now before heading downwards once more. This is the lowest I have weighed though for around 5 years so I’m really happy. Hoping I can lose a further 2lb by Christmas to get to target of 9st 7 but am realistic that getting in to party season now so probably going to be eating more.

Having said that the one thing I like about eating this way is that it doesn’t stop you from indulging and you are able to adapt your fasting to accommodate. So if I know that I’m going out for a big lunch or dinner than I do OMAD to counter balance and actually sometimes even lose more weight as a result. So maybe I’ll be having more OMAD days over the festive period!

Queencam · 23/11/2024 13:21

I totally got what you meant about the sickness bug @greengreyblue xx

that must be incredibly hard to see her struggling with that @Rollergirl11

Queencam · 23/11/2024 13:22

And agree on this being a good weight also @greengreyblue - was just thinking that this morning when I was getting dressed. It’s amazing how much difference just a few kilos off can make.

Yeah it’s silly how we have a set number that is, for me anyway, just an even amount of 9 1/2 stone. I did have an honest moment with myself, naked in the full length mirror and I actually thought, you know what, for 53 I’m ok.😳 I would never say that in real life but feel I can on here. I really just need to tone up a bit.
18 hr fast
lunch: salad with bulgur wheat and yoghurt and lemon and seeds.
snack: handful of mixed nuts , carrot with hummus.
dinner: scampi with salad and a few oven fries

Octopus45 · 23/11/2024 18:33

That's good that you feel ok about your body, I'm coming round to feeling better about myself, think I will be trying to maintain my current weight (yesterday 8st10.25) rather than trying to lose more. That said, I've been hungover and extremely hungry today, didn't finish eating/drinking till 9.45 last night and lasted until 12.30 until I ate. Have picked galore today and just eaten a big plate of pasta. It was worth it though, had a fab time with my friend. Just hoping I can find a balance and maintain.

Cashew1 · 23/11/2024 19:38

Just a 12 hour fast today

Crumpets with peanut butter
Eggs and avocado bagel
Pizza and salad

Woke with a headache and sore throat so opened window early. Feeling all fine now

Ilikeyoursleeves · 24/11/2024 09:40

Hi can I join in this thread?

I've been doing the 16:8 fasting for nearly 3 weeks and have lost 4lbs! Trying to get some weight off steadily before Xmas and I'm not feeling too deprived since I'm just eating pretty much as normal during the 8 hour window.

Hoping this thread will keep me motivated!

greengreyblue · 24/11/2024 14:48

Hi newbies and hope this way of eating helps you too.
17 hr fast
lunch: toasted sourdough with mashed avocado and a poached egg, an apple.
dinner: Swedish meatballs, mashed potato , lingonberry jam etc. Yes I went to IKEA yesterday!

Rollergirl11 · 24/11/2024 15:16

DH and I went shopping yesterday and had lunch out at Giggling Squid so decided to do OMAD yesterday. Then managed to last through till 12.30 today so 21 hour fast on top of OMAD. Hoping both will tip the scales in my favour!

Had cheese & crackers for lunch followed by chopped banana with yogurt. Steak, frites & peppercorn sauce for dinner later. Really looking forward to that!

GameOfJones · 25/11/2024 14:11

Love a porridge lunch!

17 hours ish fast for me today

Three crumpets with hummus, crispy butter beans, cucumber and tomato for lunch

Fajitas made from onion, pepper and halloumi with white rice and wraps for tea

No other snacks

Did a quick weigh and seem to have gained which has upset me a little. Have done 3x gym this week too! But trying to see it as a fluctuation and will keep going.

In terms of non-scale victories my ibs-d seems to be completely cured? No idea how or why but my digestive system loves the IF lifestyle. That's a win alone even if I never lose more weight. Didn't want to jinx it but have had a few weeks if not months of no symptoms now 🙌

Hi going to join, did IF a while back and was active on this board but started training for some half marathons and found it really hard with the long distances. However I’m injured and my weight has creeped up and I’m now the heaviest I’ve been since being pregnant 12 years ago (thank you early menopause!) so back to IF.

Im such a grazer so I find it so easy to IF as there is just clear boundaries. My biggest issues is tea with milk. I’m managing 14-15 hours on green tea but then I crack and have a tea with the smallest splash of milk. With that I’m lasting 19-22 hours.

Today I lasted till 2pm and had some overnight oats with blueberries, cherries and kiwi (I miss breakfast so much that sometimes I just have it later in the day). The for tea - leftover veggie chillie, cheese and 1 slice of wholemeal bread, followed by Greek yogurt and 2 smalll squares of chocolate.

Aiming for a 24 hour fast tomorrow (but not proper as I will have a tiny bit of milk in tea)

It’s a known benefit of IF. So pleased for you. You’re giving your gut time to regulate between meals.
