Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

16 hour fast today

L: Vegetable korma naan wrap
D: Roast lamb followed by homemade crumble with some of the blackberries picked by DD1

Not a low calorie day, but delicious.

Cashew1 · 22/09/2024 18:18

18 hour fast

Mixed veg in a wrap with avocado, tomatoes, cucumber and greek yoghurt

Oat cakes with hummus and currently deliberating over dinner. Probably something picky like cereal with fruit or a sandwich I think. Will close window at 7.

Enviable · 22/09/2024 20:00

Wow I feel like I'm eating so much more than everyone on here! Hoping I'll still lose weight gradually...

greengreyblue · 22/09/2024 20:13

@Enviable I am not overweight so need to eat less to lose weight. I’m aiming for halfway along the bmi normal weight as I was at the higher end. I have never snacked after dinner so just doing 16/8 wouldn’t cut it for me. If you did then this will be great progress for you.

God that does sound delicious

I’ve kind of done omad today. Started fasting at 2130 last night so quite late. Did 16 hours fast then had a BBQ at my parents house - so was grazing between 1330 and shut the kitchen at 1730. Avoided carbs just enjoyed a burger sausage salad, some crisps. And some triple chocolate cheesecake…

I'm not overweight either I'm just trying to lose weight I gained while on a high dose of antidepressants. So in order to lose I do have to cut down quite a lot. I want to get to 10st and am 5'9

Enviable · 23/09/2024 17:40

Ah okay. Thanks for explaining. I'm trying to not obsess over how much I eat (only slightly overweight so don't necessarily NEED to lose weight for my health; I just feel fat and not good about myself) and trying to focus on the benefits of intermittent fasting for my blood sugar, digestion, etc. I know that when I obsess about calories and weight and numbers, it sends me down a dark path and I don't want that again.

I'm trying to leave longer gaps between eating, as well as the long overnight fast, because I've got into bad habits being at home all the time and eating lots of sweet things! I'm starving right now, but trying to hold on until my partner finishes work and we have supper!

Well done to everyone on your progress.😀

greengreyblue · 23/09/2024 18:04

Honestly @Enviable just leaving those gaps between meals is so important. Every time you eat you release insulin which tells your body to store fat. So obviously when not eating, that’s not happening so you’re doing good things. I find it has just retrained me to be able to go longer and not need so much at mealtimes either as I quickly feel uncomfortable if I eat too much. Feel much more in tune with my body.
18 hr fast
lunch: leftover pulled pork with salad, an apple
dinner: just had chicken skewers with little air fried potatoes in oil and garlic, crispy kale, green beans , a satsuma.

Cashew1 · 23/09/2024 18:45

18 hour fast

Quinoa salad with cottage cheese, beetroot, almonds, cucumber tomatoes and onion
An emergency huel strawberries and cream for dinner. Packed in case I got stuck at work and not back in time for an early dinner.

Probably not eaten enough today, in this circumstance would you all flex your window and eat more later when available? Or just push through? Still figuring out how to manage with working schedule

mycatsbestfriend · 23/09/2024 18:48

I'm not exactly fasting but I'm starving all the time on 1400 and under kcal a day. I have done a 4 day fast before- only eating a spoon of peanut butter and lettuce every 6- 12 hours. I lost a lot of weight really fast doing that and think I would like to try similar again, although not as extreme. It really improved my mood as well

Yep I probably would have got in another meal. Depends on how you feel though - if you’re not hungry then I wouldn’t eat for the sake of it.

18 hour fast here. Had small bowl of leftover romesco cannellini beans & leeks. Snacked on some cucumber and humous. Ate tuna broccoli wholemeal pasta with the kids for tea at 5pm and shut the kitchen.

Quite enjoy eating early and starting an early fast when DH is away. If he was here he’d have wanted an evening meal after the kids go to bed.

Early dinner with the kids is a game changer. Doesn't work for me on days I go to the office but otherwise it's been so helpful

Wow that must have required a lot of willpower. I am quite enjoying the intermittent fasting as I think I could make it my lifestyle forever, just eating a bit more in my window when I am done with weight loss. Have you tried 16:8?

I've had this sort of thing before as well. Last week I had brunch and then didn't really eat and had to take DD to a secondary open day. But it took WAAAY longer than we planned. Then I was starving and they were serving sample pots of the canteen food so I had one of those, which meant I wasn't starving and then by the time I got home, I was way outside my window (normally 12:00-2000) and it was all a bit crap. In that instance, I didn't eat again but I did find I had to open the window a bit earlier the next day but I managed to make sure I ate dinner within the new window (I think I did 10:30-1800) and then the next day I opened back at 12:00 so I had a longer fast to get back to where I wanted to be.

I find weekends easier from a pure fasting perspective. I sleep in a bit, run around with the DC etc. During the week, I'm sitting at my computer trying to concentrate and it's hard to concentrate. Easier when I'm meeting clients or have meetings.

It is - and it made me realise how little I eat with them. My 18 month old said "Mummy eating" several times like she'd never seen it before... Not great

greengreyblue · 24/09/2024 16:25

18 hr fast today
lunch: smoked mackerel fillet with a crunchy salad, an apple.
dinner: will be a butter bean and spinach curry made with coconut milk, basmati rice.

No but I might try it

Cashew1 · 24/09/2024 18:36

18 hour fast

Lunch: hummus on two slices of toast with tomato, cucumber, lettuce, beetroot, flaked almonds

Tea with my daughter: sushi rice, sesame seeds, soy sauce, avocado, tofu puffs, cucumber, spicy sauce. Thankfully she's an adventurous eater

Also went to the gym so all in all a healthy day and feeling good

It's hard to manage with the commute and working life for sure.

Tomorrow I have a work lunch out and am going to take a light dinner for the train home of overnight oats, blueberries and oatcakes. Imagine I'll end up hungry but otherwise it will be a late dinner when back and outside of window.

greengreyblue · 25/09/2024 06:58

That looks lush, love daal. My curry ended up being coconut , butter bean and king prawn curry. Was very yummy.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 25/09/2024 13:23

I'm now well into the "get back to previous low after hilarious fluctuations" part of my cycle. It's amazing how less hungry all the time I feel! Will weigh tomorrow but cautiously optimistic I'll be at my lowest or even starting to slide down again ahead of the final week of actual weight loss. I'm seeing a friend next week I haven't seen for a while and I'm really hoping to be able to tell her that I'm now down close to 5kg.

Am about to go eat for first time today. It was interesting - this is a longer fast for various reasons but I took the dog for a walk and only got back about an hour ago. Completely normal 3km walk, route we do all the time, not terribly taxing (especially as dog is getting old and can no longer power walk - she starts to flag at the half way point!) but doing it so near the end of the fast - the last 1km was a lot harder than normal. I am feeling excited it meant my body was hugely consuming all that fat to keep me moving!

Cashew1 · 25/09/2024 17:02

19 hour fast

Lunch: veggie ramen
Dinner: blueberries, chocolate overnight oats with chia seeds, oat cakes, greek yoghurt (missing breakfast foods so breakfast for dinner today!)

greengreyblue · 25/09/2024 17:18

Haha @Cashew1 I know what you mean about breakfast foods.
18 hr fast
lunch: cottage cheese salad, apple
dinner: skinless, marinated chicken thighs roasted. Baked potato, homemade coleslaw.
