I went for breakfast with friends today and had a really lovely dish which was poached egg with broccoli, pak choi, spinach, feta and avocado. I would never in a million years have ordered something like that before this plan but it was really delicious!

@Movealongmovealong welcome! I have the red recipe book and the original book but don't use the website. There is a Facebook page too but some of the advice is a bit duff in my experience. This group is more useful I find!

@Mycatismadeofstringcheese I do intermittent fasting every day, just from 7pm to 9am. I started off having three meals a day and am seven weeks in now and a bit more used to it so have cut down to two meals during the week to stretch the fast.

@HeeHiHoHum after the 12 weeks the advice in the books is to move onto 5:2 days. You could start on two 800 calorie days and see put it goes. The book suggests trying 2:5 too, so doing five lower-calorie days of 800 calories (or less) and then taking it a bit easier on the other two days, probably during the weekend for most people.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm not sure where to start (when I start). Do I start on 5:2, i.e. five non-fast days and two fast days ? Is that when I have two days of only eating 800 calories ?

On reading Michael Mosley's book, he said he did his 5:2 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That sounds do-able to me.

How did anyone else get started ?

Tinselandlights · 31/05/2021 20:51

@ToffeeNotCoffee on the Fast800, every day is 800 calories, and you do that for between two and 12 weeks before moving into 5:2, with two 800 cal fast days.

OP posts:
ToffeeNotCoffee · 31/05/2021 21:14

@Tinselandlights

Thank you. That's further reason for me to start in mid June. So, two weeks minimum of 800cals. Then on to 5:2, with the two fast days at 800 calories per day.

OK.

Tinselandlights · 31/05/2021 22:17

@ToffeeNotCoffee good luck! The first few days are hard but it really does get easier!

Hi can I join again, keep joining and falling off the wagon Blush I did manage to lose a stone recently through being more mindful but have gone a bit astray and need some accountability!

LotsOfTrees · 01/06/2021 08:01

Welcome back @yumyumpoppycat!

Movealongmovealong · 01/06/2021 08:53

Just tucking in to my 2 poached eggs and 6 asparagus. Day 2 breakfast.

Day 1 went ok. One transgression. Could not go a whole day without coffee. It's weird enough not having one as soon as I opened my eyes. However by lunchtime I was in need and gave in. The instructions say you can have a 'splash' of whole milk. So I did that and was a very content dieter for the rest of the day.
Struggling to drink the amount of water recommended but did manage 2 litres yesterday. Best of all - I did not miss the booze. Realised I drink because I'm lazy in the evening and it's easy to sit on the sofa, watch crap TV and drink wine. Time to change my habits.

Tinselandlights · 01/06/2021 09:01

Week 8 D 1 here and I've put on a couple of pounds BUT I am constipated Grin so hopefully that will shift! Total weight loss 12.75 lbs in 8 weeks.

I'm on my period which is usually when my eating is out of control (talking 200g bars chocolate etc) and apart from an extra sausage or so at this weekend's bbq I haven't overdone it - no sugar, no alcohol, no bread.

Usually I would be despairing but I'm really trying to appreciate that weight loss isn't always linear and it is going in the right direction.

Welcome @yumyumpoppycat!

@Movealongmovealong breakfast sounds delicious! I still have coffee with a dash of milk as it's not as nice without, I don't class it as breaking my fast and it doesn't seem to have impacted me much!

Morning all. Wow, Tinselandlights, that's very impressive. Well done to you. It sounds like you have changed your eating habits for the better too.

I'm on day four. I'm feeling surprisingly good. I have never gone so long without bread. I would usually eat it at least twice a day. I often bake my own, which I like to do, but I'm telling myself it's on hold for now.
i've had a drop on the scales already, so that's encouraging.
I've never poached an egg. I must try!

DaisyWaldron · 01/06/2021 18:31

Day 1 is going OK so far. I'm hungry, but that's to be expected, and I can eat soon. Which is the best of the two recipe books? I already have meals planned, but could do with a bit of extra inspiration for later on.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/06/2021 18:48

We have the fast 800 easy one.
I've done two recipes out of it so far and they are good. Otherwise, we have the family meal without the carbohydrates, filling up on vegetables with enough protein.

Movealongmovealong · 01/06/2021 20:05

I'm really not trying to brag .. in fact more worried I have done something wrong - but I literally cannot finish my supper - even though it's delicious.

I have made it (Beef stroganoff) from the weekly meal plan. Decided to make mine first as wanted to be accurate with ingredients and weights. (Then made another for DH & DD. Plus rice for them. )

The only thing I added was courgette spirals from half a courgette and steamed.
The rest of the day was 2 poached eggs with 6 asparagus spears , lunch was Greek salad from the same meal plan. Nothing else except lots of water and one coffee splash of milk no sugar .

Worried I have done something wrong to feel so stuffed and unable to finish. Asking the experts !

MercedesBenz · 01/06/2021 20:31

@Movealongmovealong
Protein will make you feel full for longer and all the water will help
Not a bad problem to have 😀

Movealongmovealong · 01/06/2021 21:18

Thank you MercedesBenz logically I completely understand. Of course it's the protein, water and lack of sugar.. but emotionally it felt like I must have done something wrong to feel full having only consumed 800 calories. !

yumyumpoppycat · 02/06/2021 07:48

Thanks so much for welcome!

Glad to hear people are doing well. Day 1 (attempt 30456432366) was not as bad as I feared and day 2 I have lost over 1 lb so I am feeling really good too!

Move I think this diet is such a revelation for some people as they are feeling full and losing weight! Milk is ok unless you are unknowingly intolerant especially if you count the calories. Some people talk about clean fasting but even then you could have milk during the eating window.

The red book is slightly more fussy eater friendly I would say - there is a take on chicken nuggets for example. Meals in blue book I found a little disappointing to look through but the recipes I have tried have been v good. To be honest I love buying recipe books but not the most organised about following this up by cooking recipes!

Enjoy the beautiful sunny day everyone!

PhoenixMama · 02/06/2021 09:13

Hey everyone - jumping on to see all your fab losses & newbies!

I'm still yoyo-ing around the same place (still not had my lifechanging news either - 3 weeks later than I was promised) but I had an epiphany on Saturday. I'm really weak from doing this woe on and off for so long. Every time I add exercise I need to up cals or my body suffers then I plateau & don't see results so I give up the exercise lose the weight and it becomes a cycle. When I lost the 50lbs I didn't do any exercise other than yoga because my body couldn't cope. On Saturday I was out dancing with some (younger friends) and I realised how weak I've become so I'm going to put this on the back burner for a while and focus on fitness and strength. I'm only 9lbs up on my lowest weight (so still keeping 41lbs off!) and I know with strength training I'm going to gain before I lose so I don't want to be watching the scale while that happens as it will depress me loads!

Huge thank you to all of you who have helped over the past few months. Good luck with all your losses!

Tinselandlights · 02/06/2021 10:11

Good luck @PhoenixMama! Stay in touch!

I haven't tried the beef stroganoff @Movealongmovealong but that sounds great!

yumyumpoppycat · 02/06/2021 13:38

Good luck Phoenix - I def read a post from someone either here or Facebook where they said at a certain point they did better slowly upping the cals in a healthy way and focusing on exercise and weight training etc. They were still logging on mfp and monitoring macros etc but eating a lot more to see benefits from exercise.

DaisyWaldron · 02/06/2021 18:24

Day 2 here. I feel physically fine, but am really hungry. Not in a way that is unsustainable for 8-12 weeks, and I know that I'll adjust soon and feel less hungry, but I'm making dinner at the moment and am very much ready to eat it. I weighed and measured myself before I started, but I think I'm going to leave my next set of weighing until two weeks in because I don't want to get too obsessed with the numbers.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/06/2021 19:02

I wouldn't go on the scales too often, DaisyWaldron in case there's a fluctuation and you get discouraged.
I'm eating at around the same times for every meal to get used to it. I do feel hungry in the run up to a meal, but I'm managing with a drink. I'm getting used to skipping the mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks. I was terrible for that.

JaquelineSequinWindmachine · 02/06/2021 20:55

Hiya, I'm restarting again after a long weekend of family weddings and birthdays, which was marvellous, but now the time for action has come. So 21 days in June. And no booze, which will be the toughest bit for me.

Yesterday i was travelling, which in a way made it easier as there was so little to choose that was suitable. I did have a Pret avo-on-sourdough (yeah, bread) with some nuts, then a veggie omelette for dinner.

Today I had some nuts and seeds at 10.30, then bought a few goodies from M&S tapas style deli selection - spicy prawns, grilled calamari and mini frittatas, and a big bag of salad. Had half the prawns and calamari with the salad, then turned the rest into a seafood linguine with a dash of Big Tom tomato juice, served with boodles.

I've just done a bit of menu planning, and will be hitting the supermarket tomorrow.

I use the red and blue books, don't think there's much to choose between them, for people asking for recommendations. I also use the blood sugar diet one, though it is laid out in a rather haphazard fashion.

Tinselandlights · 03/06/2021 08:40

Welcome back @JaquelineSequinWindmachine!

@DaisyWaldron as your body gets fat-adapted, the hunger will leave you and it is such a relief!

It was my DH's birthday yesterday and I had a few things not on plan, though I tried to stay as close to it as I could within reason:

B-bacon and egg
L- had our veg box delivery, so had fresh asparagus and fresh tomatoes on a slice of sourdough with some olive oil and 25g cheese on top
D- went out for dinner and I had steak and salad. We shared nachos together.

We went to some bars but I had lime and cucumber drinks so non alcoholics. I was out of ketosis last night but back in this morning. My DH definitely would have felt we were 'celebrating' but I didn't go beserk, so it felt like a good compromise!

Those meals all sound nice. I got a copy of the recipe book from Amazon, but it arrived damaged and dirty, so I'm returning it, but a lot of the recipes look delicious. I've been having huel shakes for lunch on days when I work, because I only have 10 minutes to eat, which isn't enough for proper food. And tonight I'm about to have a cheese and mushroom omelette with a kale salad
