Morning! Am starting Fast800 today. Anyone care to join me?
Any tips from those who have done it before?
I’ve only been up 2 hours and all I’ve thought about is food so far! I’m surprised how often I think about it!

(Obviously restricting children's calories to 800 a day would be an issue, but I assume you don't mean that!)

fluffydinosaur · 15/01/2021 09:02

@stclair my kids are 4 and 1 - I give them a mix of fast800 and stuff just for them. so yesterday I made the turkey burgers from the website - I had mine with a bit of stir fried veg and everyone else had theirs in a burger bun (also with veg on side) - although the youngest only eats about half anyway. But if I am making something spicy or salty then I will give them something different

stclair · 15/01/2021 13:56

Ok, thanks will look into the recipes more. I would probably start with the 5:2 anyway so that should be v doable

catgirl1976 · 15/01/2021 18:54

I didn't lose anything yesterday. I was good all day and then made chicken pie for dinner thinking "I won't have any crust, just the filling and some salad". Couldn't resist it so I think that was my problem.

And tonight after my lovely low carb dinner I ate two of DS's dough balls which he'd left. I'm finding it hard not to pick at the carbs I've cooked for DS / DH but I don't want to put them on a low carb diet.

Going to be be much stricter with myself tomorrow!

VenusInfers · 16/01/2021 10:34

Hi y'all!
I've been lurking for a while but will join in now. I'm at the start of day 6 and have lost 4.5lb, which I am v pleased with. I've done this diet before and was at my absolute dream weight in February last year, but derailed massively durning lockdown 1.
I was, unfortunately for me, one of the few with plenty of flour and butter when it started and baked up a delicious, but calorific, storm!
I've realistically got nearly 1st left to lose, but will prob get to the end of Jan, have a day or two off, then recommit for another week or two, then short break again etc. Get there that way.

One great thing about this diet is that it is easier to do the more you do it. 1st time I was v hungry for q a while and could barely exercise at all. This time it was WAY easier to get started and feel comfortably in the groove now.

Foundmyfeet · 16/01/2021 15:22

Hi @VenusInfers well done on your 4.5lbs loss! It's good to hear that this gets easier because I feel like I've been starving these past 2 weeks! Lol!

It's been a good day today! I've now lost 11lbs in 2 weeks! I can't believe it really. I've only got 1lb to lose to get back into the elevens and I'm hoping that by the end of February, I'll be in the tens. Aiming for 9st and hoping that will be by May.

Next week is the week before AF and I generally start to bloat and feel gross. Hoping that it doesn't effect my weight loss. PMS has already kicked in though; managed to pick a fight with DH about ceiling lights FFS!! Poor man.

Also, my lovely low carb bread and brownies arrived in time for breakfast this morning! Had 2 slices with mashed avo and poached egg. My absolute favourite breakfast after eggs benedict. Can you have eggs benedict on Keto?

Tried the brownie and it was so rich that one is most definitely enough....thank god!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 17/01/2021 13:59

@Foundmyfeet I've ordered the bread and rolls, decided against the brownies (for the time being) but glad hear they are good.

I'm a bit Confused at the moment - I made the banana and pecan mug cake/muffin for brunch this morning and followed the ingredients to the letter. Recipe says it is 322 cals. Just run it through MFP to add to my diary and it says 542 calories??!!! ShockSad. How can it be over 200 more . Makes me feel suspicious of all the other calorie counts now - will be running through MFP first.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 17/01/2021 14:39

Although going back and rereading it (closely!) it seems that it is meant to serve 2. Oops Blush

Foundmyfeet · 17/01/2021 17:46

@TheWayOfTheWorld Loool! Sorry, your follow up comment made me chuckle! Did you eat it before you checked the calorie count? If so, hope you enjoyed it! In all seriousness, I have also noticed the calorie counts differ from the book to MFP. Enjoy the bread rolls when they arrive.

I made eggs benny for brunch. Looked it up and found it on "dietdoctor.com." Really easy to make, even the mug bread. I didn't have any almond flour the mug bread so substituted it with the coconut flour measured equivalent.

Was a little disappointed with the how the hollandaise sauce turned out. Maybe it was me rather than the recipe.
All in all, I probably won't make it again because I prefer the good stuff from Bob's and such like and will treat myself to it once we are allowed out again! Plus, it's quite calorific so I'd rather consume those amount of calories on something I really enjoy.
I will, however, make the mug bread again because that was delish...if you like coconut :)

TheWayOfTheWorld · 17/01/2021 22:18

Yep, I ate it all before adding to MFP - although I was thinking it was rather substantial and it did me until I dinner time when I had a light(er than normal) dinner to compensate.

Anyone else finding they are ludicrously thirsty? I am currently on glass of water no 7 - each glass holds 380ml and I still feel parched!

Foundmyfeet · 18/01/2021 07:35

@TheWayOfTheWorld yes, me!! I'm drinking gallons of water...or so it feels like. Probably drinking near on 3L a day. My skin looks great now!

JaquelineBeanstalk · 18/01/2021 08:12

I’m thinking of doing a blog entry this week on doing this diet for one. Lots of the recipes, particularly in the new easy book, are for 4. I’m usually only cooking for myself ( sometimes dh will have a portion alongside a carb or meat, but even in no diet times we eat very different things!) sometimes it’s straightforward enough to halve the recipe, and have one portion for dinner and another for lunch, or freeze it. But sometimes it’s not that simple. And then you have all the leftover half aubergines, opened tins of coconut milk, one bit of fish etc.

fluffydinosaur · 18/01/2021 09:34

so frustrated this morning -after a good first week, for the last 5 days I keep gaining and losing the same two pounds! I had an afternoon off on saturday but still fairly careful, and apart from that I've been really strict. what is wrong with me? surely too early for a plateau!?

Foundmyfeet · 18/01/2021 09:48

@fluffydinosaur I'm no expert at this as this is my first time, but my first thought was your macros perhaps? So even if you are keeping within a certain number of calories, are you checking that you are keeping within the carbs/proteins/fats limits? And are you drinking lots of water?

BIWI · 18/01/2021 10:06

@Foundmyfeet and @TheWayOfTheWorld if you're drinking lots of water but still thirsty, you need to eat more salt. good explanation of it here

fluffydinosaur · 18/01/2021 10:33

@Foundmyfeet thanks - looks like my carbs are typically around 30% but sometimes a little more. I'm thinking that may be a little high. do you know what the ideal proportion is?

Foundmyfeet · 18/01/2021 15:04

@BIWI - thanks for the link. Very interesting and makes sense, but couldn't think of anything worse than adding Himalayan salts (or any salt) to my drinking water...yuck! May try the massage though :)

@fluffydinosaur - I've read so many articles on different sites and it appears that it varies from person to person. However, the maximum should be 35% to remain in ketosis. The lower the percentage consumption of carbs, the better. You must be careful about protein consumption also. Too much protein can be counterproductive. So if you are going to reduce your carb intake, substitute it for a healthy balance of protein and fats.

My macros are:

Calories: 1000
Carbs: 10% (25g)
Protein 30% (75g)
Fat 60% (66g)

Start weight: 12st 11.5lbs
Current weight: 12st 0.5lbs
Target weight: 9st
Height: 5ft 1in

This is just my own doing (not medically or scientifically confirmed), but it seems to be working for me in the 2 weeks I've been doing this. I did gain 3/4lb this morning but I'm PMS-ing and I can only put it down to that as I've been spot on with food.

Hope this helps you.

Foundmyfeet · 18/01/2021 15:06

Oh just to add, I've also read that fat intake should be no less than 60%.

VenusInfers · 18/01/2021 21:24

I agree with @foundmyfeet, @fluffydinosaur.

  • Watch the macros, don't guesstimate anything and keep drinking loads of water. The dial will start moving in the right direction for you!

Like all diets, you can plateau on the fast 800; most people plateau for a bit around 3 weeks, but if you push on through the loses will continue.

My macros went under the bus on Sunday. My 11 yo DS decided to make a cake all by himself for the first time ever. It was a caramel sponge cake & turned out amazingly. It would have been impossible/rude not to have a small Cake! Managed to keep over all calories to 1000, and no gain or anything but suspect I'm not in Ketosis anymore! Grin

Foundmyfeet · 18/01/2021 21:42

@fluffydinosaur - apologies, a typo in my post. It should read carbs

fluffydinosaur · 18/01/2021 22:07

thanks all - I will keep an eye on my macros and keep ploughing through! I was expecting to plateau but not yet, so struggling to keep motivated...

Foundmyfeet · 19/01/2021 09:14

@fluffydinosaur keep going! See how you get on this week with the adjustment to the macros. I believe the scales will start to move downwards and you'll get your fire back.

I'm the same weight as yesterday so definitely it's PMS for me. Anyone else experience the same during shark week?

catgirl1976 · 19/01/2021 11:12

Week 2 now and my weight loss has slowed. Lost 6lb in the first week but am now losing about 0.4lb a day so I've lost half a stone in total on day 8. Obviously its still going in the right direction but bigger losses are more motivational :(

Going to stick at it though. And my period is due next week so maybe once that's out of the way the losses will ramp up a bit.

BIWI · 19/01/2021 14:32

But you can't possibly keep losing at that rate @catgirl1976! You've done really well to lose half a stone in the time that you have.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/01/2021 15:33

@BIWI thanks for that, I've started adding a pinch of pink salt to my water and shall see how I get on.

My SLC bread and rolls arrived yesterday - I had a cheese burger for dinner (SLC roll, vegan burger, some fried onions and a sprinkle of cheddar) and it was AMAZING and all for 400 cal! .

@catgirl1976 the rate of loss will definitely drop - some days you may even go up a bit - but keep going.

I'm now just over 2 weeks in and 10.6lb down. I lost 7.6lb on week 1 and 2.6lb on week 2. I think I will be happy with a couple of lb a week from now on, but even that will take time.
