@TheOriginalNutty

Popped on here to have a nosey after watching the channel 4 programme last night. Was going to order the fast 8 book but I see you all seem to recommend the bsd instead so I've ordered that.

My aim is to have a read over the weekend and hopefully start on Monday.

I have 3 stone minimum to lose which seems very daunting so just going to take it a stone at a time.

Currently quite worried about not having breakfast as it's my fave meal of the day and I tend to feel sick very quickly if I'm hungry.

I have some salt in my morning black-coffees which helps with nausea...

@TheOriginalNutty Understandable, but think most people surprised by how little they need not to feel hungry. Also most people have cycles of hunger. Read this Jason Fung article. Title reassuring: "How to not get hungry".

As practical matter if breakfast is your favourite meal and don't want to change that, why not eat breakfast, have a late lunch, then skip dinner? Eat in 8-hour window from 7 AM to 3 PM, so you fast from 3PM-ish to 7 AM-ish, which is 16 hours. Not so hard. I do it every day without trying or even thinking about it. (Finish eating by 8 PM, have lunch next day around noon.)

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/08/2020 19:13

Agreed. You have to adapt this to work with your life long term. If you love breakfast (as do I). Then eat it. I eat breakfast, lunch, then fast until the morning. That works well for me.

Dinnerfor1 · 06/08/2020 19:23

I’ve just eaten far too much for my roast dinner. Chicken, celeriac chips, carrots, kale and gravy. All bsd friendly (except for the gravy) but I’m still terrible at portion control. I’m fine having two meals a day, fine cutting out sugar and carbs, but I still find it so hard to stop eating when I’m enjoying something.

TheOriginalNutty · 06/08/2020 21:19

Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to give the no breakfast a go and see how I get on but if i can't do it I'll adjust it like some of you mentioned.

I have tried so many other diets but since the I had to have a hysterectomy and went through the menopause I just can't seem to lose anything.

I will no doubt be back with more questions once my books arrive at the weekend

outwest · 06/08/2020 21:31

I worry that I am now at my "set point", because this is a weight I've been at many many times in my life

@WhatWillSantaBring Sure, may be factors causing you end up around that weight - e.g. maybe you notice certain clothes getting tight & cut back on portions, so tend not to go higher, or tend to eat more when clothes are loose again - but have seen no evidence it is hard-coded in our bodies. No need to be pessimistic.

Ironic that "set point" advocates cannot explain why, far from being stable, average "set point" for population of UK must have moved over past 40 years. Should be invariable if what they say is correct. It's "set", after all, right? And if it can change in one direction, why not back in other direction?

Seems typical pseudo-science. To be fair, lot of it about in nutrition. Still so much we don't know. Humility and willingness to consider new ideas only sensible approach. Screaming "losing weight is impossible" on Twitter indicative of neither.

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/08/2020 07:24

Whoop whoop another pound gone overnight. It’s the magic bulletin fasts 😃😃😃😃. I’m delighted . I can feel my stomach disappearing.

I am dubious of my scales. Stepped on this morning to a weight of 10st after a reading of 9st11 yesterday. Horrified, I stepped off and on again to a reading of 9st10.4. Bloody uneven floors. I've already moved the scales into the computer room as it's the most even bit of floor in the whole damn place!

Having a BBQ this eve. Husband did a shop and bought the usual processed meats but also both chicken breasts and chicken thighs. I've done a different marinade for each and have a glut of carrots to be roasted with dukkah for a side. Hopefully can stick to this foods, but a bit of halloumi may also pass my lips...

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/08/2020 07:36

Mine do that sometimes nibblequeen. That’s why I gave two sets 🤭

Kimlek · 07/08/2020 07:44

@WhatWillSantaBring I think the set point thing is BS. Yes, as we approach goal weight it gets trickier, and there may well be weights where we plateau or where it’s easier to maintain at (until we start gaining again) but to suggest there’s a set weight set in stone makes no sense. Don’t get into that mindset as it really won’t help. You keep ploughing on!!!

Kimlek · 07/08/2020 07:47

@TheOriginalNutty this will work but plan, plan, plan & definitely ask questions.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 07/08/2020 08:21

Rather demoralised - came back from holiday on Sunday. Jumped on scales when I got back and 9st 9 lbs, so no fluctuations. Great.

But now, am seeing an increase of 9 st 11lbs for no apparent reason Confused

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/08/2020 08:26

I do often think the weight gain lag from holidays appears a few days after the over eating ends. That does depend on whether you stayed on plan on your holiday though.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 07/08/2020 08:38

Morning All!

Still trending downwards, still on track. Feeling bloody fantastic actually! 😊

The set point thing, I find really interesting but really hope it's rubbish!

Will fast until about 12 today (18.5hrs), am having the portabello pizzas for lunch and then curry for tea. Exercise wise I'm doing the new body project release and a cycle - still can't risk weights after pulling my back on Monday.

Weather looks like it's going to be spectacular so I will def be getting out for a few walks too.

Have a great weekend everyone. 😊😊

ilovemydogandMrObama · 07/08/2020 08:41

@justanotherneighinparadise - good point. No, went completely off piste, but mostly when we went out where I think I consumed all of the potatoes in Scotland Smile. But also was going hill walking in the rain.

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/08/2020 08:44

Ah then I’d put it down to that. Get back on plan and those extra pounds will disappear again 👍

NibbleQueen · 07/08/2020 08:48

@justanotherneighinparadise good plan re 2 sets of scales. I think they weren't in their EXACT position (difference of about an inch) so maybe that had an impact. Waist is measuring at 3/4 inch less than at the start so I'll go on that.

Watched the program last night, I was shocked to hear that waist measurement shouldn't be more than half your height! I am just under 5"3 with waist currently 28". There doesn't seem to be much leeway - 2 more inches and i'd be in trouble! Then again I am at the "better fed" end of the healthy weight range Grin

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/08/2020 08:52

Pmsl me too. BMI of 24.9 🤭. I do have a fairly small waist for height though so I don’t think I’m in any danger health wise. I just want to get back into my jeans again and that requires a loss of at least 7lbs.

Justasecondnow · 07/08/2020 10:21

Hello, have to agree with the fasting helping to get through plateaus. After a fairly disastrous weekend I did OMAD mon- thurs and have lost 2lb this week - so now 9.10 having been 9.12 for ages!

Not doing OMAD at weekends and have a meal out so will be over today. But hoping OMAD and the rest can sort me out in the week. 3lb to lose in a week to hit goal. Unlikely but will get close.

Re waist measurements, mine is perilously close to too much (unfortunately I’m a classic apple shape). And doubt 2-3lb will change that. So plan remains a go at maintenance then another round in Nov I think.

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/08/2020 10:26

Well done @Justasecondnow 👏👏

When I was fasting before I was chowing down on high carb foods in my eating window so I found it bloody difficult. This morning I ate a portion of last nights dinner and now I’m completely stuffed. My plan is to fast until the morning. I want to see if the longer fasts are less painful now I’m eating low carb.

ThePawtriarchy · 07/08/2020 17:49

Hi, can I join you all? I’ve tried IM before but not stuck with it but I’ve had a few health issues catch up with me recently (in my 40’s) which I’ve got away with before. Quarantine etc has left me the biggest I’ve been and I’m miserable. It’s got to change!

Anyway, you didn’t need to hear all that, but here I am! Smile

outwest · 07/08/2020 21:32

Anyway, you didn’t need to hear all that

Always interested to hear some background @ThePawtriarchy, though naturally most of us struggle with similar problems, given nature of the thread. Welcome...

What are your plans for getting started? Myself, bought the Blood Sugar Diet recipe book (without buying Blood Sugar Diet initially), and went from there. Seems to have worked.

NibbleQueen · 07/08/2020 22:09

Am most likely getting a Chinese tomorrow. Recommendations pls? I was thinking chicken/duck with ginger and spring onions and sea spiced aubergine instead of any starch.
