went to DFiance’s mums today for lunch, we drove a 4 hour round trip to bring her lunch which we cooked etc. She was so horrible to me Sad and has unearthed some old wedding pics of him and his first wife and put them in pride of place. Apparently when they were married she didn’t like her either though so I think it’s just how she is.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/07/2020 19:49

@Kimlek haha 🤣 I said to dh it was as much a challenge for my head as for my legs today.

I'm closing the kitchen on 1500 cals but a lot of carbs (about 180g), but given the circumstances that's ok. I actually just went to the supermarket to get some coffee and dd came to choose pudding, I'd sort of told myself I could have anything I wanted tonight , but you know what? I left empty handed! I'm just feeling very on it right now, and I just didn't want to spoil it

Tomorrow: nice restful day for me, probably morning yoga. Food will be a salmon, crab sticks and avocado salad, and dinner will be a portion of lentil curry I froze last week and some protein added, possibly fish.

@Plancina that's horrible! Hope you are ok, some people are just nasty aren't they? Thanks

@thenewaveragebear1983 thanks 🙏🏻 I avoided hitting either my future MIL or the bottle - a win in my book Grin today cals are at 900 because of lunch with said in laws and exercise is low because of said 4 hour car journey but tomorrow is another day! Going to have coffee with a dash of cream and then do a yoga with Adriene.

Bestbees · 07/07/2020 21:46

@Plancina mil solidarity. When I planning my wedding I was told strapless dresses are slutty (after I had told her that's what mine was) and that green bridesmaid dresses were bad luck. She knew they were in green. And this was after we had moved our wedding once because dh was so unwell. He only had a 30% chance of survival at that point (when asked if she would like to come and stay in the NHS flat by the hospital she was unsure as she had to tend the garden). Waaaah. Things are better now but needless to say we don't get on! We will go and stay in August which I am dreading. She always asks what the kids like to eat then ignores it. One of mine doesn't eat potatoes of any kind, not even chips. What does she serve every night? Potato. Why does she even bother!

Phew rant over, very cathartic! Sorry to derail the thread a bit.

Kept to plan today so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

@Bestbees Thanksfor you too.

@Plancina 900 is great esp with MIL. Ignore. And you too @Bestbees!! There’s no need for meanness is there?
Kitchen closed very late as dinner at 9pm followed by handful of pecan. But cals 800 and carbs 23 so happy with that. Hardly any steps either. So big dog walk tomorrow plus tennis & Will have a later lunch to make up for it.

Hi everyone,
Hope you don't mind me joining you. I started the BSD last week and am on day 6. I'm very overweight (largest since my first pregnancy 8ish years ago) and I've stuck to it religiously so far. It's been tough at times, by far the hardest part is the rapid weight loss has triggered a period, which I don't usually have thanks to my mini pill Shock it's caused me to gain back half of what I'd lost in the first couple of days, despite only having 800 cals a day!! Honestly I'm gutted by the injustice of it, but I've had a look up on the BSD website and apparently it is a thing as oestrogen gets laid down in fat cells. What a cruel twist!! So the cramps and cravings are just adding to my hunger pangs but I am really REALLY trying to power through. Has anyone else had this? I'm really hoping it doesn't last too long though appreciate everyone is different. I'm worried if I don't start seeing a loss on the scales again soon I'll think fuck it, and undo my hard work!
Will try to RTFT over the next day or so, just wanted to say "hi" and share my experience so farSmile

Plancina · 07/07/2020 22:42

Thanks @Kimlek and @Bestbees - we may be married to the same man?! Best comment of today was, when DFiance said to his stepdad it’s only three weeks til the wedding his mum said “what difference will it make anyway” Hmm
And breathe!
Tomorrow I have Botox (for migraines not wrinkles but hoping he will clear up some of my wrinkles if I am nice to him Grin at 1pm so I can’t exercise after that. Plan is to do a full body weights workout first thing and a walk/run to get 15,000 steps before lunch at 12.
Food: red pepper quiches and yoghurt with berries for brunch
Chicken and quinoa salad for dinner
1 square dark chocolate

Someone asked for the recipe for the red pepper quiches:
Cut two red peppers lengthways and brush with olive oil with salt and oregano/mixed herbs in, you can add a crushed garlic clove too if you like it
Roast at 180 for 15mins
Meanwhile beat 4 eggs in a bowl and add salt, pepper, 100ml full fat milk, 60g finely grated cheese, finely diced shallot and 1/2 head of finely diced broccoli. I often add pancetta too.
Split mix between peppers and cook for another 10 mins or until egg is set.
They are delicious and really filling - I usually serve them with salad or wilted kale. Sometimes I need more milk if the peppers are large to fill them up.

UsuallyJustLurk · 07/07/2020 22:42

Sorry, didn't mean to post twice, it said it's failed the first time Confused

Kimlek · 07/07/2020 23:23

No worries about posting twice! And welcome @UsuallyJustLurk I can’t really add anything regarding oestrogen & periods as I’m perimenopausal and have no blinking clue what’s going on. BUT if you’ve been losing good amounts up until now maybe your body is catching up. I tend to gain a pound or so during my period but then have a bit of a whoosh straight after. So hopefully that’ll happen to you. Please don’t let it discourage you as it sounds like you’ve had a brilliant start! The important thing is that it’s generally moving in the right direction. Some people lose huge amounts on here but others are slower and steadier. Don’t worry, it’ll happen.
It’s taken me 7 months to lose 2 stone, which averages at one pound a week so hardly fast. I’m just saying this as it’s easy to look at the big losses of others and be disheartened but not realise that each little half pound adds up!

Kimlek · 07/07/2020 23:32

@Plancina it was me who asked about the red pepper quiches. So glad I did they sound like just my thing and saves washing up muffin tins! My egg always gets very stuck in the tins. I’ve taken the liberty of adding your recipe to the BSD recipe thread. Your MIL sounds like my mother who also didn’t see the point in our marriage. Unhappy in their own lives maybe? Don’t let her get you down. Hope the Botox helps the migraines (and laughter lines)!

UsuallyJustLurk · 08/07/2020 06:29

Thanks for your advice @kimlek I'm trying not to be disheartened, the losses were so motivating until it arrived so just a bit galling! I'm hoping for a proper whoosh when it disappears, hopefully in the next day or two fingers crossed
Well done for how far you've come, I have a lot to lose... losing 7 stone would make me the 'perfect' BMI but hoping for the 10-15% of my body weight per MM's target in the BSD book for a start, that should be about 2 stone. Then I'd like to switch to the 5:2 to keep going. That feels a very long way off at the moment so will just keep chugging away for now.
Hope you all have a great day!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/07/2020 07:07

@plancina those quiches sounds lovely, I love a stuffed pepper but have never stuffed them with egg!!

@UsuallyJustLurk hi, welcome! I have pcos so have weird hormonal joojoo going on most of the time so I've had the full range of period issues: none, loads, late, early. I can imagine it's frustrating to have one you weren't expecting and for it to cause you a bit of a gain, but it's quite normal due to the oestrogen thing you mention, and like @Kimlek says it will be just water and will whoosh off the way it came.

A pound and a bit off yesterday, 10.6.8

OP posts:
Bestbees · 08/07/2020 07:42

Morning all.
Well @UsuallyJustLurk hopefully you the hormonal issues will settle down. Do you weigh everyday? I do and plot on a chart and can see that it is up and bit, down a bit but overall down which helps for those blips. I can put on 4lb round my period too.

Up 1/4 of a pound which is annoying but it happens. Will be super good today and hope for a mini whoosh tomorrow!

Kimlek · 08/07/2020 07:50

I too am up half a pound this am. Yes, @UsuallyJustLurk SS bestbees says plotting on a chart is a good idea as it puts all the ups and downs into perspective. A lot of people use My Fitness Pal for this and their food planning but I prefer the Happy Scale app as it smooths it out and gives predictions. They’re both free.

Kimlek · 08/07/2020 07:51

That ‘SS’ was meant to be ‘as’.

UsuallyJustLurk · 08/07/2020 07:52

Thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 and @Bestbees it's so nice to have a group who I can talk to about this!

I do weigh every day and it was spurring me on so much at first, now I just get upset when I think of how little I'm eating and not seeing the result straightaway. And to GAIN, boohoo!!!! But yes, I see that it's better to look at the bigger picture. Overall I've lost 3lbs since I started so that's better than if I hadn't started at all! I'll keep repeating that as my mantra and will try not to mourn the 6lbs it was before my hormones screwed me over Grin
Have a good day everyone

Bestbees · 08/07/2020 08:28

Oops posted too soon.
Food today:
Lunch: beetroot hummus and crudités, boiled egg
Dinner: cod and Ratatouille

WhatWillSantaBring · 08/07/2020 08:56

Oh, the toxic MILs - you all sound like you're very tolerant and forgiving. It always makes me feel guilty that I whinge about mine when she's actually alright (we just have nothing in common and I find her hard work and resent her for bringing up such an emotionally immature DS). Have you ever considered not visiting with your DH/DP? I often pack DH off to see his DP without me. I get a weekend off AND don't have to see them. Win Win!

I've got a work socially distanced social coming up soon, and I've just been told that they're providing the food as individually packed picnics. Should I say something? Tell them not to give me anything? Tell them I don't eat carbs? I don't think I have the willpower not to eat it if i'm given a plate of cakes, but maybe this is a challenge I have to deal with? It's a new team and I've never actually met them before so don't want to seem like a dick.

Had a mini whoosh today and lost half a kilo - I weight every day which I know a lot of weight loss support groups say is a big no-no, but i think it's a good habit to get into for maintenance. If, like me, you're a person who can put on 3-5kg in a week, i'm hoping that weighing daily will keep me straight.

Zebrasandfairytales · 08/07/2020 09:05

Morning everyone - I just wanted to post a little update. I stepped on the scales this morning having started the diet on Monday and it was just the boost I needed. (Bearing in mind I have a significant amount of weight to loose to get to a normal BMI)
7lbs off in a few days! I know it will slow down but I can’t quite believe it. I’ve also reduced my visceral fat very slightly too (I bought smart scales as it’s the visceral fat I’m most worried about)

Anyway, thank you for keeping me going - I don’t get to post much but at the end of the day I have been catching up on what you’re all eating and what progress you’ve made - it really motivates me to keep going. Thanks all.

Plancina · 08/07/2020 09:52

@Zebrasandfairytales well done! Smile I am expecting a slight gain when I step on the scales this morning as lunch at PILs was slightly over cals, but hoping to rectify that in the next couple of days. My sister will be here from tomorrow til Monday morning so I’ll have to be extra careful to stick to plan when she and my nephew will be eating all the treats!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/07/2020 09:53

@Zebrasandfairytales well done! It's very motivating isn't it? Have you find measurements? I suggest you do, just jot them down in a notebook (you don't have to share on here!) and that can also be really motivating. I found mine during a clear out the other day from when I very first started, I'll share them later!

Zebrasandfairytales · 08/07/2020 10:18

@Plancina it sounds like you have the situation under control - I find it really reassuring that you can go over but take the reigns back. I worry that when life goes back to normal it will be harder to manage with more social occasions etc

@thenewaveragebear1983 I haven’t done that but will do tonight - good idea thank you. Would love to see your progress.
