Back from a long day at the zoo, I’ve done 20k steps already and we’ve not even had dinner! I very nearly had an ice cream today but at the very last minute (literally put it back standing at the till) I decided not to. Maybe tomorrow.

Junk glad to have a running buddy on here! How are you finding the combination of low carb and distance running? I have found it very difficult, both to fuel my running and also to curb the insatiable hunger afterwards- I suppose because although the actual run burns say 800 cals, the whole day after I feel like I’m just burning through calories. It’s been really tricky to get the balance right and I’m still struggling to be honest sometimes. It will be good to have another input!

Bear I've eaten a lot in Cornwall but did a 23k steps hike yesterday up a lot of rocky hills and have another one planned for tomorrow.. even doing my week 4 of Couch 25K on hills !!! .. what I'm beginning to like being away is that I'm not weighing myself. I think I'm actually naturally eating intuitively hen I'm hungry and going by whether my clothes feel ok ... I weigh myself every day at home but when I get back I'm going to stick to once a week or fortnight

onanothertrain · 07/08/2018 18:45

Moved to level 2 of 30DS today, forgot how much harder it was!

Tried Morrison's butternut squash fries today, I just about drowned them in salt and vinegar but they were still quite chippy.
741 calories and 38g carbs

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/08/2018 21:51

Alicatz that’s good. I don’t feel like I’m controlling myself so well today, as I am still eating more than I actually need (even though it’s all at mealtimes). Plus wine. Plus I did have one of those tiny 1 inch square brownie bites and ice cream after dinner tonight! And I’m flirting between being really liberated by not weighing myself, and also thinking maybe I really should (but I obviously can’t)

And I still haven’t come on, which is very unlike me. Although, I have had overall a pretty crappy month both hormones wise and food wise, and perhaps that’s related in some way? I also ran more than ever last month (over 100 miles) and I think that does something weird to my ovulation/cycle somehow. But as a result, I’m still craving carbs badly and being a total bitch grouch.

Today I've had

breakfast egg muffins (150 cal)
Soup(210 cal)
Pepper and mushroom omelette (400idh)
2 mini cheeses
An apple

So I reckon I'm under 900
Feel fine, not hungry

DandelionAndBedrock · 07/08/2018 22:15

I’m a little over on calories today, but because I had a mammoth gym day and wanted extra protein. Discovered a pre-cooked seafood mix in the Co-Op which is heavier on the mussels than I would like, but I had it with ribboned courgette and some goats cheese and it was perfectly ok. 74cals and 0.6carbs per 100g.

That looks tasty dandelion!

So today marks the end of week 2 and the start of week 3. Since starting I have lost 5.7 kgs so something is going right!

That said I hadn't realised but the meal I was planning for this evening had gone off so I ended up rummaging through my freezer and had fishfingers and potato waffles. Luckily I hadn't eaten much earlier on so I'm not to far over my calorie count but the carbs makes pretty grim reading.

Oh well tomorrow is a new day!

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 08/08/2018 10:05

I closed the kitchen yesterday on about 770cal which felt great.

I went for my usual 5km walk this morning (this will evolve to a jog but slowly!) and I really didn't push it because even at 8:30 am it was already about 27 degrees!! Blush

Not eaten yet. Feeling good today though. I'm looking forward to seeing what I weigh in at on Saturday morning after 5 days of dieting. I'm already down 1kg! I'm sure my tummy has shrunk too.

I'm off to drink a gallon of water and enjoy the air conditioning unit FIL delivered yesterday. Ahhhhhh

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 08/08/2018 12:17

I have some questions... cauliflower rice... is it any good? If I whizz up a whole cauliflower can I freeze it without cooking it at all or should I cook it first?

Also, veggie noodles... any spiralizer tips or recommendations?

Thank you! Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/08/2018 13:20

Nounderpants I despise cauliflower rice but I think I’m unusual in that, everyone else seems to like it. I think there’s a big variation between homemade and branded.

I ran 5km this morning in my fastest ever time (21 minutes!) and have been very good with food, all week pretty much barring 1 treat although I’ve eaten tonnes of calories. But I feel really bloated and yucky and not very BSD ish. I’m hoping the damage won’t be too awful when I get home, and also that as it’s all BSD food it will all sort of disappear after a couple of proper 800 calorie days! Wishful thinking? Probably.

DandelionAndBedrock · 08/08/2018 15:06

underpants Iceland do bags of cauli rice that you can microwave from frozen which I find tastes much more bland (ie. less cauliflower-y) than blitzing it yourself. This may or may not be a good thing for you! If I make my own then I freeze it raw.

I’m plateau-ing at the moment which is annoying, but I think I need to drink more water in the evenings because the nights are so hot? Normally I have a really good morning wee Blush but not for the past few weeks. Going to try and have an extra glass just before bed and see if that helps.

onanothertrain · 08/08/2018 15:25

Pants I couldnt stand cauliflower rice having only tried it microwaved. However i tried it again at the weekend roasted with a wee bit oil, lemon juice, cumin and coriander. It was lovely, more like cous cous than rice. I'll definitely eat it regularly if roasted.

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 08/08/2018 15:25

Dandelion thank you! But I'm not in the U.K. Confused. But yes to drinking loads!! I am doing my best to up it (it was 36 here yesterday) and it definitely makes a difference!!
Do you have any way of tracking what you've drunk easily?

Bear wow! That's a really fast time!! Well done! I used to run a 5km in about 38 minutes... but that was pre babies. I haven't managed to get back to that much running since DCs.

What sort of distance do you generally run and how regularly do you run?

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 08/08/2018 15:27

Train thanks I have made some (it's in the freezer) and I will try roasting it when I can stand the idea of turning the oven on!
Blush

DandelionAndBedrock · 08/08/2018 15:33

I log it on MFP. When I’m at work (teacher) I have an 800ml water bottle, and I drink one of those each period (4x daily). I aim for another during lunch and whilst marking, and another full bottle each gym session. Having a routine makes it easier to track if I forget to log, but logging it is easiest.

I can easily hit 6 or 7 litres without really noticing, but I have an illness which means I need to drink lots regardless of BSD.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/08/2018 16:18

Nounderpants I run a lot to be honest, I’m currently hitting about 140-160 km a month, broken up into anything from 6 km to 13 (my current longest distance)- I’m doing various training exercises to improve my speed at the moment, so today’s run was a real attempt to push myself to see if it’s working. I wouldn’t go that fast normally!

Seasidedreamer · 08/08/2018 17:25

Good day for me yesterday - sub 800 cals / 40g carbs and on track today. I hope it’s reflected on the scales on Sunday! I am in awe of the exercise everyone is doing on these calories. Something I need to address along with drinking more water. I constantly seem to be running to the bathroom which is tricky when out and about.

I too like cauliflower rice - personally think bought is better as it’s hard to blitz evenly and I much prefer it roasted in the oven. I think Morrison’s sell broccoli rice too but I don’t have one that close but something to try. Have tried butternut and courgette spirals - they’re ok but not rushing to re purchase.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/08/2018 17:31

Seaside I don’t do that much exercise on 800 calories, I average about 1200 a day when I’m being good although when I get back off this holiday I’m going to do a few 800 days to get my holiday gain off!

Ughhh, today was the first day I've ever gone seriously off the rails.

I was at a photoshoot all day and ended up eating loads of the absolutely delicious desserts, I was only going to take a tiny taste of just one dish...let's just say it spiralled!

Today was also the first day in weeks and weeks that my plateau looked as though it was about to move in the right direction.

Sorry, had to vent about my stupidity, will get right back on the BSD horse.

waterandlemonjuice · 08/08/2018 19:53

Hello everyone.

Today I had breakfast muffins (egg)

Rocket, feta and lentil salad with olive oil and balsamic dressing and 2 quail eggs

Was STARVING at work and felt faint so bought a snack pack with a few grapes, half an apple and a small stick of cheese. I left the packet of cheddars, pleased with myself as I like them but resisted. But they are in my drawer at work...

Tonight had lentils, celery, lettuce, crayfish with some mayonnaise

Day 15 with no alcohol

onanothertrain · 08/08/2018 20:28

39g carbs, 620 calories and day 12 of 30DS

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 08/08/2018 21:04

Another sub 800cal day here... which I have really surprised myself with. My watch actually says I have used more calories than I consumed today... which is weird!

bear I’m still really impressed! Is there a goal or race to the running or just something you really enjoy?

I would much rather swim or cycle. But it’s a trek to the swimming pool and I can just drop the kids at Kindergarten and then I go for my walk, so convenience wins out.

Junkmail · 08/08/2018 21:34

bear I’m still working up to the distances/times I used to be able to run but currently best time is at 5km in around 27 mins so I’m getting there. TBH my stamina feels better than ever. I’ve found I can compete my 5km and then be ready to go again after a few mins recovery (stopping myself as I’m really not wanting any more injuries). I’ve been really surprised by this as I expected and was prepared for fairly poor performance after everything I was taught about nutrition for runners. I’m much slower than I used to be but I don’t know how much of that I would put down to needing to regain a lot of fitness.

I imagine that once I’m running further I may struggle more though. I always run in a fasted state (I don’t eat breakfast) and I find that if I come home and just have some black coffee I don’t really feel the need to eat. However, my appetite has entirely changed since I started fasting and I’m finding that maybe that more than anything has reduced my need to eat after excercise. I was really keen to try it as a way to try and reduce inflammation (I do still struggle with pain somewhat) and wow what a change! I never would have been able to fast without the bsd weaning me off carbs though. This diet has been a game changer for me.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/08/2018 06:58

Junk that’s really interesting. I always run fasted too because if I eat anything I get a stitch. I’m finding that’s naturally curbing my speed/distance though on my longer runs, especially now I have less body fat. I definitely went through a phase of my body literally clawing back every calorie and it caused a long plateau as I just couldn’t get the balance right. I still don’t think I have to be honest which is why I have a few good days, then a few terrible days.

Lovely meal out last night, I had scallops in tomato sauce and sea bass with Parma ham on Mediterranean veg. It came with new potatoes but I left them, but I did have cheesecake! Too much wine though. I’m going to try not to drink today. I’m feeling the effects of drinking every day for 5 days!

Seasidedreamer · 09/08/2018 09:40

That does make me feel better Bear! 1200 cals feels luxurious compared to 800. I too found Morrison’s really good for lunch options when I was away. Hope everyone has a good day.
