Right- I'm going to give this a go.

I'm an awkward fucker- meat and dairy free. (So a "vegan " diet, but I don't call myself vegan because I was told off for doing so 😁).

Does ayone allow themselves diet coke? This will be the hardest for me if not...

Westwing1 · 06/08/2018 13:04

Nounderpants I normally have 4 days meals planned out. Allroads welcome, no you don't have to post your weight, just do whatever you are comfortable with. I joined in about 3 weeks ago and have noticed some people like to post three times a day and some pop in and out once a fortnight. Some posters are experts on the BSD (thenewaveragebear our leader) and then there are people like me who just keep the basic rules in mind Grin.

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 06/08/2018 13:06

I'm halfway through thread one which is distracting me from the smell of flapjack cooking in the oven

waterandlemonjuice · 06/08/2018 13:24

I had two breakfast 'muffins' and just finished chickpea, spinach and chorizo soup for lunch

Not that hungry. Day 13 with no wine.

onanothertrain · 06/08/2018 15:05

Allroads I have never posted my weight- mainly cause I don't know it.
I'm a vegetarian but eat eggs and cheese which makes this much easier.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/08/2018 15:43

Allroads no you don’t need to post your weight, I think a few of us do on here because this is our safe zone where we can be completely honest with ourselves. There’s never any judgement though. Also, whether you share or not, but do your measurements too. Often the inches lost is as impressive as the poundage lost!

Still holidaying, I’m tired and grouchy today as I drank too much last night and didn’t get enough sleep and was up at 5.30. I am still due on, which is mildly concerning as I’m now a few days late, but at least my insatiable carb appetite seems to have calmed a bit. I didn’t run today although I was itching to. Food wise things are really good- no ice creams or any of the big 5 nasties although I was very very tempted by fudge today and would have happily had several chunks if I’d not told Dh to stop me having any. We’ve just been having loads of salads and meat, and cheese in the evenings.

all roads - I allow myself Diet Coke very very occasionally but more often diet lemonade. Both are instead of wine. If you need to have it then for the time being do and look at cutting down when all’s going well with the plan. I found it quite encouraging to read people’s weights and realise that people who where relatively light still had good weight loss as most tv shows, blogs etc etc focus on obese people having big losses.

onanothertrain · 06/08/2018 18:52

Today is day 1 of week 5 and day 10 of level 1 30DS. I'm glad, it was getting rather boring.
I bought some edamame and mung bean fettucine today from asda, has anyone tried it?
Finishing on 812 calories and 42g carbs.

Westwing1 · 06/08/2018 19:59

Trout fillet (panfried, caught it meself) and wilted spinach. 2 poppodums as snack. 1 white coffee. Haven't worked out kc or carbs but it can't be over 800 kc surely.

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 06/08/2018 20:10

Kitchen closed on around 850cal today.

I am miserable tonight. Reality has sunk in a bit. I am determined to stick to this but I am really craving sweets! How long does that take to get over?

I can avoid regular bread, pasta etc type carbs but it’s the sugar that gets me. I think I might do BSD for longer than I originally intended so that I can get that under control.

It doesn’t help that I am mentally organising what I need to bake for DD’s birthday this weekend. What I need to bake for kindergarten and then what I need to bake for her party the weekend after...aaaaaarrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!

onanothertrain · 06/08/2018 20:26

Pants I don't have a particularly sweet tooth but I lost my craving for anything sweet after a week or so. Tasted a spoonful of tiramisu ( my favourite dessert ever) last week and it wasn't very nice, so glad I had the cheese!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/08/2018 20:45

I’ve been doing this since January and I’ve never lost my sweet tooth. I can restrain myself usually but it’s always there. I sometimes dream about it. I’ve actually booked some hypnotherapy for later this month to try and resolve it, because some days I spend all day having mental battles with my own sugar cravings.

I’ve also never experienced this ‘one bite and it was too sweet’ thing that low carb people talk about. When I do have sugar, i do eat it! Although BSD has killed chocolate for me; it now just tastes of palm oil and greasy.

OP posts:
NoUnderpantsinSpace · 06/08/2018 21:13

What about the sweet cravings? Have they become less?

And how many weeks of BSD do you reckon might see an 8-10kg loss?
I’m curious to see how sustainable the diet is, and then how sustainable the weight loss is....

Changeisneeded · 06/08/2018 21:36

Nounderpantsinspace my two week weigh in is tomorrow but so far I'm on track to lose 5 kilos. I know the weight loss will slow rapidly from here but depending on your height and weight 8-10kgs may take between 6 and 10 weeks.

I haven't lost my sweet tooth yet and today I caved and had a chocolate bar (I had one last week to) and for the first time ever I found it sickly sweet and I still have an unpleasant taste in my mouth now. That said I doubt it will put me off for to long but I'm more tempted to go for dark chocolate next time!

Seasidedreamer · 06/08/2018 23:41

Closing the kitchen at 799 / 45g carbs. Determined to try and stick to it this week but was getting hangry this evening as ate later than I intended. Planning is key I think or at least having some easy to reach / heat meals in the fridge/ freezer. So I have made chilli, tomato soup, chicken and bean casserole etc and worked the calories out in MFP. For the vegetarians amongst us some of the Indian ready meals are good eg M and S Tarka Dahl is about 250 cals. About 25g carbs but good for fiber. I eat with cauliflower rice - it’s very filling. Aldi are stocking some vegetarian pots from soulful food. Very high in veg, again quite carby (and they do have some added sugar - hoping not much!) but from quinoa, lentils etc. I really like them.

I haven’t lost my sweet tooth either but I do have some Oppo ice cream occasionally- particularly in this heat. Days 4/5/6 were the worst for me and then Ive found it ok. I find it easier not to have breakfast and hold out until around 12.30 ish for lunch.

veryveryquietly · 07/08/2018 08:16

Ugh, pitiful all-snack, carby and calorific excuse for dinner last night and totally blew it Complete and utter failure, and worst of all, I didn't even enjoy it.

But shit happens, so clambering back onto the good-eating wagon this morning. Bleah.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/08/2018 10:12

I ate loads yesterday, and drank rather a lot of gin while lounging around in our hot tub! No sugar though.

Today- ran 10km, off to the zoo, bought a Morrison’s chicken and antipasti salad for lunch (it appears to be literally chicken, sun dried toms and leaves with a mini pot of hummus), so hopefully should be a better day with more steps to counteract my massive feed yesterday!

Change, seaside bear thank you for the sweet tooth feedback... I think SmileHmm

Well... I hope that I can survive the weekend without going crazy and then survive next week and recover from any weekend excess. My hope is that by planning the weekdays and being strict with them I can relax a little at the weekends when I need to without causing too much chaos

I'd quite like my belly not to stick out so much and look like a mini pregnancy Sad.
I hope that less sugar and around 10kg will be a good start.

I have around 20-24kg to shift. But I think in my adult life I've never been below around 76kg. So I'm expecting many many plateaus! Hmm

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 07/08/2018 10:53

Bear be careful drinking in a hot tub BlushI have a story to tell about my experience... fortunately it's kind of awesome (Sydney hotel roof top, mojitos, wine etc etc... fast asleep in the cab home!)

Junkmail · 07/08/2018 12:17

I’m a new poster here but I’m actually in my final week of round one of BSD and just found these great threads which I’ve been reading through. I’m thinking I’ll take a couple weeks “off” (maybe do 5:2? I don’t know. What does everyone else do after the 8 weeks?) and then do a second round. I’ve lost around 24lbs so far. I had around 4 stone to lose in all.

I’ve actually found the diet incredibly easy to stick to and even combined it with fasting because the lack of carbs makes fasting a cinch. I’ve decided that when my final week is up I’m having a “cheat meal” (I know I shouldn’t really but I deprived myself of pizza all this time and it’s calling my name) to keep myself motivated. I find it hard to think I can NEVER have things ever again so I think having the pizza in a controlled manner (and no other junk food to follow) will make me feel like I can be satisfied and then continue ifswim?

Question—has anyone else’s weight seemed to come almost exclusively off their upper half and boobs?? I know realistically I’ve lost weight all over as I have a few pairs of jeans that are now unwearable as they look like clown pants and my shirts are all much looser but I feel like the majority has come off my boobs which is a little disappointing. I’m an hourglass shape but I feel like the top half of my hourglass is emptying first. I mean I don’t mind too much but why couldn’t it all have come off my stomach?? sigh

NoUnderpantsinSpace · 07/08/2018 12:40

junk I hear you! I really don’t mind my upper body - from about waist up it’s ok. (Even though I know there is also plenty of back fat).... I’d love the weight to go from my lower body. But I expect that will be the last weight I shift.

Although I also think that your body might need time to catch up and let everything resettle. I have lost about 9kg in the past and it defwent fromnthe top first. Then it all moved around, sort of, and seemed to resettle.
But well done on being 24lbs lighter!! That must feel pretty amazing! Have you measured anything else?

Just had lunch. A random selection of what was in the fridge since my shopping plans were scuppered by a dead car battery

veryveryquietly · 07/08/2018 12:59

welcome junk ! I'm the opposite, it's coming off slowly everywhere, but faster off bottom and belly than boobs. Which is unfortunately the case for me generally - boobs are always first place I gain, last place I lose. Which wouldn't be a problem for most people, I guess, but it is for me because mine are way too big and I hate them.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/08/2018 13:53

I lost lots on my legs and waist, then suddenly a few months ago my arms and boobs just seemed to really slim down. I always despised my ‘dinner lady arms’ and all of a sudden I have quite slim, toned arms. However, I have heard/read that you gain weight from the top down and lose it that way too, so who knows.

The big reduction on the tummy/ waist is due to the visceral fat which is why you can lose loads of inches on round one but not see it on the scales, and also why subsequent rounds never start off with such a big weight loss

OP posts:
Junkmail · 07/08/2018 16:09

Thanks guys! Yeah it does feel really good. And I started running again which I’m really excited about. I used to love long distance running but I have a knee injury which was really exacerbated by being overweight (and caused the weight gain in the first place really being unable to excercise for a while and feeling generally down so I eat. Ugh). But now I’ve slimmed down kinda I’m finding running fun (and so far pain-free 🤞🏼) again. I’m taking it slow though.

I never took any measurements because I just didn’t want to know lol. Now I’m thinking I might and take it from here because the losses have slowed down on the scale but I’m gonna need new clothes soon for sure!

I guess I just have to be patient and wait in regards to more even weight loss. As soon as I started seeing results I got impatient (just story of my life TBH) and wanted my belly gone but I’m defo in this for the long haul this time. I have so many failed diets behind me and I’m actually amazed at myself that I’ve stuck to this and it feels sustainable.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 07/08/2018 17:47

Supper- Nando's style chicken and avocado salad. It's not as yummy as it should be as every ingredient is slightly wrong - spinach a bit old, avocado under ripe, edamame overcooked, lime juice really sour etc

Have not managed an 800 day since last Wednesday and am really pissed off with it. Gone well today though so far. I'm out this evening which I am finding easier than sitting at home. Having a big clear out this week and have spent 9 hours deep cleaning and sorting stuff. Fun and satisfying and surprisingly good exercise - 8k steps in my sitting room yesterday and today!
