803 calories and 48g carbs today. Drinking peppermint tea in a bid to not eat anything else tonight.....

Saltmonster · 01/11/2018 21:01

727 cal and 54g carbs

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/11/2018 21:02

That’s good onanother. I’ve had a pretty pants day. Shoulder pain has eased to make way for a rotten cold. It’s fair to say I’m struggling a bit this week!

Tomorrow- run in the morning, planning to fast as long as I can during the day, eat something BSD friendly early afternoon and then we have a birthday party and fireworks in the evening. Although if I still feel rotten I’m not going to drink, which will help in the long run!

I should point out to our new starters thAt I’m not normally so miserable, i don’t know what’s got into me this week!

I’ve done my first 3 weeks meal plans, ready to start on Monday.
How many carbs do people aim for? I can’t find an answer in the book. I’ve never tracked carbs before so unsure what’s considered a low amount.
I’m doing a fantastic job of stuffing my face in preparation 🙄

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/11/2018 08:31

Nice you don’t technically need to count carbs on this plan, although some do, and 50g per day seems to be a common target. In theory, if you only eat the plan foods, and stick to 800 calories, you’ll keep the carbs low enough as it’s naturally self limiting. It can be helpful to get an idea though of how many carbs are in certain foods in order to make better choices, and even certain ‘on plan’ foods are relatively high carb (such as lentils, peas, cashews etc) but if you keep the calories to 800 you’ll still be ok even eating these as there’s only so much you can have for 800 cals! If you’re like me and need more calories due to exercise or once you’ve been on the plan longer, the carb count is helpful as you can increase the calories without increasing carbs.

Rather than specifically grams of carbs, it’s the impact of those carbs on your blood sugars that is key, so carbs that come with fibre or fat are usually ok in small amounts, whereas stripped carbs/refined carbs/ white carbs are not.

Thanks Bear that makes sense, I run fairly regularly and work 13 hour shifts on my feet albeit only 2 days a week, so suspect after 8 weeks i’ll need to increase calories but don’t want to jump ahead!

Westwing1 · 02/11/2018 09:57

Finding it very doable this week, might be hormones in a good place, going to bed 9.30 pm and I think that has helped too. Lost 2 lbs, bit surprised, haven't exercised so that's today's big goal. Planning a veggie day with lentils. Braised celery is a side dish I love, I can eat 300 gr of this and its under 50 kc. Rest of family do not share my love of celery.

Nice I don't count carbs as such but like Bear says I am aware of carbs in my regular food, e.g. I eat peas, lentils, onions regularly but keep the portions small (100 gr). Salted almonds I have 8 if I need a snack. I avoid butternut squash, sweet potatoes, parsnips and corn as they are a bit carby for veg and I don't love them anyway.

Saltmonster · 03/11/2018 00:20

785calories (for technicallt yesterday as its gone midnight!) today

Westwing1 · 03/11/2018 10:51

Did 25 mins on cross trainer yesterday and lost another 1/2 lb. Had a bag of Pom Bear crisps after very late dinner. Weekends are hard, very often find I regain lbs lost and start Monday morning right back where I was. Really hope I can avoid the usual pitfalls.

John Dory fillet, endame beans, tomatoes and rocket for lunch, 4 grilled sardines and veg for dinner, also wine or Schloer depending on will power. Just looked up sardines and pleasantly surprised to see they are quite low in calories. Hope everyone has a good day.

Saltmonster · 03/11/2018 10:58

I know what you mean about weekends being hard! This morning, has my first kind of craving for something outside of the diet I would kill for a can of Pepsi or similar! Which is really weird as my cravings before the diet tend to be more of the crisp/carby/starchy/salty variety!

Saltmonster · 03/11/2018 19:54

437 and going to bed, can't face fucking about measuring veg for dinner when I just went a pizza or chips Sad

fromnowhere · 03/11/2018 23:11

Right I'm finally finished the book and put together my first 7 day meal plan including my shopping list which took forever to put together! Tell me it's gets quicker and easier?
I feel like I have to have a cast iron plan though or I'll just crack on day one! Wish me luck everyone, i start on Monday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/11/2018 07:27

Morning all. Weekend has gone a bit haywire, but I stepped on the scales this morning and I’m 10.5, which is only a couple of pounds gain (which considering party food and alcohol consumption is not bad at all) I’m back on it properly from right now

From yes, it does get easier when you find your groove.

Salt that’s some strong willpower!

From I’m starting Monday too, I’ve done my first 3 weeks plan and shopped yesterday for the first week. Excited and nervous really

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/11/2018 08:20

If you’re starting tomorrow, may I suggest that you take your measurements (if you haven’t already) as it can be really motivating to see inch loss as well as weight loss. You don’t have to share them, just jot them down for your own reference!

onanothertrain · 04/11/2018 09:49

Was good yesterday and finished on 856 calories and 38g carbs. Friday not so much and probably 1200 calories and double my usual carbs but sometimes you need a day off.
Will be good today!

Saltmonster · 04/11/2018 13:33

Salt that’s some strong willpower!
More just kind of patheticness Grin luckily I live pretty far from my nearest town and nowhere that will deliver and before I started I got rid of my lovely supply of freezer pizzas and all things beige and carby, so it was eat the veg or eat nothing and I chose stroping and nothing Grin

Back in the mindset today and really pleased with the weightloss so far, tomorrow will be 7 days started on 84.2, weighed in today at 82.3kg

Westwing1 · 04/11/2018 13:44

Well done Salt, I make that 4.2 lbs in 6 days, really well done!

Saltmonster · 04/11/2018 14:01

Thank you! Feeling more positive about life in general last week, been for a walk several days which is something I'm normally a bit too anxious (ridiculous I know!) to do. And Ive had days like yesterday where I had a bit of a break down, but nothing bad happened and feeling good this morning, which is what I think I needed, like a wake up call of you don't need to beige binge when your down.
I'm hoping rather then just weight loss diet this becomes the start of a whole new lifestyle for me, early days, but fingers crossed!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/11/2018 14:52

Great start salt, I think you’re right about lifestyle changes as well. Once you get rid of all the carby rubbish, it makes way for other healthy changes too.

Determined for a good week ahead- planned my menu out using Jamie’s 5 ingredients book, and have used up all the old veg in the fridge making a vege Thai red curry tray bake (with paste and coconut milk) which I will portion up for 2 or 3 lunches. I find it easier to be strict if I strip my menu down to remove the thinking, so this week I’ll have my Thai veg or a homemade shake for lunch/brunch and a 500 cal dinner each day. I’m feeling very run down so I’m going to maximise my veg intake this week.

If I’m honest with myself I’ve been struggling a lot recently, and slipping back into some very unhealthy habits and ways of thinking. Not inherently unhealthy food, but more fruit than is ideal, not tracking or weighing, grazing a lot, and eating significantly more sugar than I had been, and eating when I’m not actually hungry. As a result I feel grotty and bloated, and every day I start well and end badly which is terribly destructive for my mindset. I am managing to maintain it by running a lot, but I want to lose those last few pounds so it’s time to knuckle down now.

Under 800... But I had white flour, tried to make tofu pancakes without it, didn't work, didn't eat the whole day as was annoyed by the pancake fail and just caved now and made them with flour, back on it tomorrow! Pleased I did portion control with them even if they had an ingredient that isn't on the plan though.

Saltmonster · 04/11/2018 23:33

Also what's your homemade shake ingredients? Id like to try a shake as a kind of breakfast thing!
