I don't know what to say, always been like this. No I guess I don't get thirsty. Old friends/flat mates have commented but I find it odd how much other people drink.

I drink one mug of milky coffee tops in the morning, don't really finish it, it's more of a ritual. Love wine but if I don't have that then I have one glass of schloer after dinner or nothing. Might have a mouthful of water before lights out if it's very hot. That's a typical day. I think now would be a good time to say I also don't eat fruit (other than toms). I do eat lots of veg, love all veg. I think the veg is keeping me alive. I do think my skin would be nicer if I drank more water. It's a habit I need to acquire. I will try 500 ml a day.

West everyone’s different I guess! No point forcing it down if you don’t feel thirsty. I am sure my water consumption is at least partly a habit as I often go into the kitchen and have a drink rather than open the fridge- maybe it’s a by product of years of dieting? If I don’t drink as much (say I am out all day for example) I don’t get excessively thirsty.

808 calories and 46g carbs today, 30DS.
I drink about 3L of water a day Monday to Fri and maybe a bit less at weekends as it's replaced by wine
I get a headache if I don't drink at least 1.5L but found in the first week of this diet I felt really dehydrated so increased the water intake.

ponygirlcurtis · 30/08/2018 16:14

I usually get around 2-2.5l if I focused on it. Like onanothertrain it gets swapped out for something else at the weekend!

Having a better week I think, hoping to have dropped a couple of lbs by Sunday morning (start of my weighing week).

Westwing1 · 30/08/2018 16:46

Hi all, not hungry earlier so just eating dinner; 350 gr John Dory fillet + olive oil, 100gr sugar snaps, 100 gr asparagus, 100gr Swiss chard, roast tomatoes, 50 gr lentils, should come in under 800 kc easily. 30 mins on cross trainer and ahem drank 500 ml water. Day 3/30 no alcohol.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2018 17:08

I didn’t check in last night, I did go over on the calories but it was all BSD stuff. Think I just had the day 2 munchies! Today I’ve been better although I did eat a huge slice of cheese at about 4.00 without even thinking about it.

Tonight I’ve got a courgette gratin and chicken breast which will be nice, but I’m waiting until after I run at 7.30, so I’m currently starving!

I'm not doing so well. I keep being low, so regularly needing lucozade, plus I ate 3 chocolate fingers when low as well.

onanothertrain · 30/08/2018 19:26

771 calories and 48g carbs today. Made falafel for dinner, used romaine lettuce as wraps and made a Greek yoghurt, mint and lemon dressing. It was really nice just a shame half of it fell out the 'wrap' onto the floor...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/08/2018 20:27

Sorry to hear you’re struggling Oblomov Flowers

Onanothertrain oh no. 5 second rule??

I’ve struggled a little with grazing today. It’s really my worst habit. Several hundred calories of ‘nibbles’ here and there! I’ve been for a run though and done 18k steps in all. I am very hungry now and waiting for my dinner!!

OP posts:
onanothertrain · 30/08/2018 20:43

bear no chance of getting to 5 seconds here. I've got 2 dogs who have much faster reflexes than I have!!

waterandlemonjuice · 30/08/2018 20:43

On 800 cals so pleased

B muffins
L half an avocado, 50g smoked salmon
D 88g chicken, lentils

Marmite cheese, apple, and oops a packet of cheddars but I'm still on 800 so that's ok

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2018 07:59

Morning everyone.

Well done water, good work!

Did any of you who are cutting out/back on the alcohol watch the documentary with Adrian Chiles this week? Dh and I watched it last night on catch up and it was really interesting. No horror stories about alcoholism but just a well presented demonstration of how much it adds up. We both downloaded a ‘drink less’ app which tracks your units. I think it must have struck a chord because Dh never does things like that.

I’m feeling tired today. I am having this constant battle with my calories intake and don’t know how to play it really. I did a tdee calculator yesterday that said I should be eating 1500 cals to lose weight and I really am not eating that much, and it put my tdee at over 2000) I am torn between trying to stay at 1500 (with a few sub 1000) or whether to tentatively increase calories (protein calories specifically) and see what happens. The thing that puts me off is that, where previously I have had a good control on the carbs, currently I’m really struggling to keep them low. I do try and keep below 1000 and manage it 50% of the time, but no wonder it’s becoming increasingly difficult if my actual requirements are nearer 2000. It’s the running that is skewing it, and I don’t trust Fitbit’s calorie counts completely. I don’t want to eat my exercise calories, and certainly don’t want to eat more than I burn. While running with my friend last night I toyed with the idea of raising my calories to 1500 but then actually sticking to that, regardless of weekends, etc. Just 1500 every day for 2 weeks maybe, and see what happens. And keeping the carbs low.

Tdee calculator for anyone who’s interested

healthyeater.com/important-tool-weight-loss

I always input as sedentary/lightly active but don’t actually add my exercise calories as it’s so hard to judge.

Compare this with Fitbit though, they claim my average daily calories burned this year is 2700! I don’t believe this is wholly accurate (if it was I would be very skinny indeed!)

Hi Bear, I would never consider your activity level as sedentary/lightly active! You do lots of running, if I did your running I would definitely increase my calories maybe in pulses or proteins.

Again not particularly hungry, flat out busy, will probably just have a big dinner, steak night here, I will have a 250 gr sirloin, 50 gr lentils, roast toms and roast onions, mushrooms and a vat of greens. Holiday weight is shifting, I feel well. I think my goal was to be 9 st 0 lbs by 1st September, can't believe that's tomorrow. I won't make that but I will get close.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 31/08/2018 14:15

Hi, all. Just checking in. Back from 2 weeks in France, where I found it v hard to keep on the BSD track. No pasta or rice, but definitely frites and too much bread/pastries to even think about. Interestingly I didn't really enjoy the food there, which I have done previously and I was really keen to get back on the BSD. I haven't weighed but don't think the damage is too bad, as nothing feels different clothes-wise could just be kidding myself
I really missed my weekly parkrun - DH loves running and is super fast so he just whizzes off wherever we are but I feel happier sticking to my known routes, so, exercise-wise, holiday was swimming and HIIT.
I didn't love the holiday and felt quite "removed" for much of the time and have struggled since we've been back food-wise. I can feel that I'm starting to sink a bit and there's a v unwelcome return of a heavy black cloud Sad
I've felt great doing the BSD, so I can't help but think going off message hasn't really helped me mentally. So, tomorrows the 1st September and a Saturday, so I'll do a Parkrun and really focus food-wise. Haven't drunk any alcohol for a week, which has been good, ,too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2018 15:56

West the thing is it is surprising how few calories are actually burned even on a long run. So last week I ran for 90 minutes and it came in at about 880 calories according to Fitbit. Now, yes, that’s a lot- but consider a few handfuls of peanuts and 2 glasses of wine, and there’s your 880. If it’s accurate then that’s ok, but if Fitbit is overestimating then it isn’t difficult to go over and undo all the effort. I never fully trust these calculators and especially where you have to state your intensity level. However I do wonder if maybe I’m erring too far on the side of caution and could actually achieve similar results on more calories. It might be worth an experiment!

Im guessing 30g carbs and 750 calories, today, day 25 of 30DS. Was at a conference today where lunch was provided and didn't want to look like a weirdo pulling my box of salad out. Had a tiny salad with beetroot and goats cheese, a slice of melon and a piece of brie. Ate my salad for dinner.

quince2figs · 31/08/2018 23:12

Can I join? Have toyed with BSD a few times, but never got past a week (always an excuse of other life things...which clearly are never going to go away!)
Moderately overweight for 10 years, then increasingly so since having 2 dcs for next 10 years...now need to lose around 2 stone to get back from obese into “just” overweight; 4 to get back to healthy weight range.
I have done 3 days now, but struggling to get down to 800 - managing 900-1000 calories though, and mostly within plan.
It helps me on work days to not vary things too much:
B - Yogurt, few berries and linseed
L - egg and egg white veg omelette with sprinkle of Parmesan
D - chicken breast and green veg, maybe sprinkle of feta

My brain is still stuck in “treat” mode, so trying to train myself out of latte, toast and biscuits. Blood sugars normal, but I can absolutely feel the levels shoot down after eating way, way too many carbs. Knocking on 50, so will only be a matter of time before pre-diabetic if I don’t sort this out.
Have gone from 99kg to 98 in 2 days, so starting to move. Does everyone else find they pee much more than usual?!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/08/2018 23:32

Hi quince, welcome. To answer some of your points: 1000 is fine, just watch the carbs. If you avoid the big 5 white carbs (pasta, rice, grains, potatoes, sugar) and stick to 1000 cals I guarantee you’ll lose weight. And yes, you’ll be in the loo all day because the first weight you’ll lose is all the water; It will slow down eventually. Feel free to ask any questions and post on here. Also, check out the recipe thread and feel free to add any on there, or any pre-prepared things you find that are BSD compatible

Thanks bear!
I am determined to get there, also as I have lots of nice clothes from my thinner times still waiting to be worn again. In typical fashion, I have developed a rip-roaring cold/sore throat/earache since yesterday. I’ve had some elderberry syrup as a hot drink, and dh bought me a crumpet with butter and jam for breakfast... didn’t have the heart to refuse, and scoffed it. Back on plan for rest of day though.
You are all such an inspiration on this thread.
One amazing thing is that that dh had to stop drinking any alcohol, due to a serious medical condition and medication for it, this year. We are both keen wine lovers, so wanted to do it with him. It has been remarkably easy, I never thought I would be able to say that. So 4 months no booze, apart from ordering a glass of wine when on holiday last month - I sipped, was underwhelmed and left most of it.
I wonder if I can manage the same for carbs?!

raisinsraisins · 01/09/2018 12:51

Oblamov - I find the best thing to do when feeling low and snacking is to count the snacks as part of your calories. You’ll find that it really won’t be as bad as you think. Try diet lucazade/sodas, if you feel you need sugar then I think you’re better off having a few sweets as they are lower in calories than a lucazade. I keep a pack of polos in my kitchen cupboard and if I feel myself flagging then I have one of those.

lasttimeround · 01/09/2018 15:03

Ok so im.already at 800 cals. First day. Now what? Eat veg only for dinner?

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 01/09/2018 16:51

Hello! I'm back. Dentistry fine, more to come though. We were away camping this week and I have eaten appallingly since I last posted. Full on horrible binges. Picking myself up, dusting myself off and ready to try again.

Have had 3 m&s salads today to kick start the next 8 week cycle - I have eaten no fruit and veg while we've been away and had loads of alcohol and caffeine so feel dreadful and was desperately in need of something fresh and crunchy. Well satisfied and closing the kitchen (a little earlier than usual as I'm anticipating a seriously early night!) on 1015 cal and 115g carbs. 800 cal from tomorrow.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/09/2018 17:08

Lasttime personally if it’s day one I’d have something low carb but allow yourself a few extra calories. A plate of veg will leave you hungry whereas if you have a couple of eggs and some cheese or some protein, it will actually fill you up, making you more likely to succeed in the long run. 800 calories is really tricky to actually achieve I find, it can take a while to Judge how to spread your calories most effectively through the day.
