Thanks everyone.
Aromatic, I agree with the others, he recommends only a small spoonful occasionally.

I don't eat them that much. But that's only because I've never been that into them.

My lunch today includes it(grain salad) with crustless quiche, jalapeño, mozzarella, only because these are all my Asda purchases from the other day. Which ended up being quite a high calorie lunch, but not THAT high carb.

I don't eat any kind of grains at all. I plan to introduce a couple of tablespoons of a low carb variety of grains after I get to the end of 8 weeks. God I miss bread though. Every day!

5 pounds off at weigh in today. Which I was dead chuffed about. I think 2 things made the difference for me last week: more cardio, and more fat in my 800 cals (I just have peanut butter for dinner most days, which does the trick).

Takes my total for 4 weeks to 15 pounds or thereabout. So if I manage to lose close to that in second half of the plan, I might achieve my goal of 2 stone in 8 weeks.

Still pretty much constantly hungry, not so much first thing in morning but from about 11am - 11pm I'm always hungry - even after I eat my one meal of the day I'm hungry virtually straight away! I am counting really closely now (I even weigh my 'rounded teaspoon of peanut butter' that I have each evening), so I don't want to up my cal count. My fat is not going without a fight though!

veryveryquietly · 26/02/2018 16:36

Hurrah londonista for another 5 lbs gone! That's marvelous.

AromaticSpices · 26/02/2018 16:54

Good work Londonista!

Thanks to everyone re grains advice. I am only having a little every other day (and by little I mean probably two tablespoons, its not the main bit of the meal) and am losing well so will adjust if my weight loss starts slowing.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/02/2018 17:40

Good work londonista, although I don’t know how you are managing on just 1 spoonful of peanut butter in the evening. I think I would have eaten one of the children by now! It’s no wonder you are hungry. I’m going to come over all Mother Hen now, but do take care of yourself- if you’re feeling hungry all the time, that can’t be enjoyable. It’s not a lot of volume for the calories makes me hungry just thinking about it!!

My tea tonight smells soooooo good! I bought a lamb rump joint on offer in Lidl today, so I’ve slow roasted it with carrot, swede, onion and parsnip, and have made a broccoli cheese bake to go with it too. It’s calorie heavy, but I have only had my shake today, so it still comes in under budget!

I know Bear, it's not a great life at the moment, to be hungry all the time! I keep thinking my body will adjust and stop being so hungry. Maybe it will!

I am eating 800 cals though, I'm meticulous about the measuring year days. I think if I could cut down on the amount of teas and coffees I drink (I save 200 cals for them) I might be able to have an actual meal in the evening.

I keep telling myself it's not forever - only 4 more weeks to go then I can have porridge!! Ooooh, what a treat! I can have a whole chicken breast instead of a half!

Even if I manage to lose 2 stone in this period, which would be awesome, I'd still have another 3 to lose so I'm trying to focus also on breaking bad habits.

I've got Mother's Day and my birthday next week so I'm going to try really hard not to slip and save my celebrations till the end.

londonista · 26/02/2018 20:40

Although, the tiredness has passed thank god. Couldn't have contemplated going to a spin class this hungry at the start, now it's fine and actually quite energetic.

londonista · 26/02/2018 20:41

How's everyone coping in the cold?? Extra layers for all the BSDers this week...! Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/02/2018 21:04

It’s absolutely freezing here, we have heavy snow forecast as well for tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. I’m even cold inside these days because we moved to this ridiculously draughty house with rubbish windows and a crap boiler!!

Londonista you know what you’re doing, and if you can manage it, so fair enough. I guess if you’re having the calories it doesn’t matter where they come from, but just take care. Are there any ways you could reduce the calories in your tea/coffee? Could you switch to herbal or green tea? Or almond milk (has 1/4 of the calories of semi skimmed?)- with 100 extra calories you could have a salad and a bit of cheese, a very small meal to keep you going. I don’t like to think of people being hungry all the time on this plan, because actually you don’t need to be. I’d also be concerned that long term, using 1/4 of your daily allowance on milk won’t provide you with a balanced enough diet, especially if you are going to continue after 8 weeks. I hope you realise I’m not lecturing you by the way, just a bit concerned for you. Flowers

Anyway, I’m closing the kitchen on 836 cals, 52g carbs. I did 17k steps including a 4K run. I’ve found today quite tricky after having a few bad foods over the weekend, so hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

I have swapped half the cups of tea I'd normally have for hot water with lemon. Occasionally I treat myself to hot water with a slice of an orange. It's not tea, but I quite like it.

londonista · 26/02/2018 21:24

I know, I have about 8 cups with skim milk every day. I do need to swap some out for something else.
Do love a cuppa though!

Thanks Bear, yeah I know! 💕
I just fail at every diet and I'm so keen to try and stick to this one. It will be so nice to go into spring feeling a bit healthier.

londonista · 26/02/2018 21:25

Bridget is it just lemon slices or do you squeeze lemon juice in?

bridgetreilly · 27/02/2018 09:50

I use a thick slice - about 1cm thick and don't both squeezing it. I do let it sit for a few minutes to cool down and that gives time for the flavour to brew. I also find you can reuse the lemon two or three times!

bridgetreilly · 27/02/2018 09:50

*don't bother

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/02/2018 10:50

The other thing that’s oddly nice is apple cider vinegar in warm water. Don’t know if anyone’s tried that but it is supposed to be good for weightloss as well as lots of other ailments.

Gosh it’s cold here today! Ds and I went for a walk this morning and it was freezing, so we’re staying in for the rest of the day! I’m currently tidying my kitchen cupboards out, I have an abundance of tinned beans so will probably make and freeze some falafel, and we will be doing a workout with Jillian Michaels later too. We know how to live!

OP posts:
londonista · 27/02/2018 12:19

I must get into the Apple Cider Vinegar - apparently it's good for reflux as well.

AromaticSpices · 27/02/2018 13:35

I had a breakthrough today. I bought the roast beetroot/feta/spinach/grain/BNS salad from Pret (238 calories) and microwaved it for 2 mins, as I wanted something hot. It was amazing! The cheese went all melty and the spinach wilted and it was so comforting. It was honestly absolutely delicious. Like a risotto. I really didn't fancy something cold but couldn't see anything hot that wasn't bad.... so the idea struck me one forkful in!

On the subject of drinks, depending on what your stance is on sweetener (or whether you want to use calories on the sugary one) but hot squash is lovely. Or, slightly better, lemon and ginger teabags, left to brew for a few mins then a tiny splash of hi-juice or squash. Reeeeeally nice.

Weighed in this morning, 6lbs down since last Monday. Am now 11st.5lbs, target is 10.5 (may reassess and try for 10 depending how I feel when close).

ElanorGamgee · 27/02/2018 18:10

I haven't posted on here for a bit. I am still going, in my own way. I am having to interpret it to stay on it as I am in a really busy period at work but I think it is going ok.

Today's food consisted of yogurt and berries, lentil dhal soup for lunch and baked fish with vegetables for dinner. Not very creative but easy and nutritious.

I feel like I have lost weight (still don't own scales), nothing earth shattering but I noticed a dress fitted better yesterday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/02/2018 20:29

It all went a bit Pete Tong this afternoon- no major carbs thankfully, but just a few mad moments resulting in a lot of extra calories! Try again tomorrow.....

londonista · 27/02/2018 20:30

God me too. I haven't eaten over my cals but I'd eaten all 800 by midday ... 😔. And I had a big slice of bread this morning as well. Fail!

Is it a full moon??!

Oblomov18 · 27/02/2018 20:46

Mine went all over the place today!! Sad

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/02/2018 20:48

Maybe it’s the cold weather or something, (and it’s totm for me too, which doesn’t help) but I just couldn’t help myself. Thankfully there was no chocolate in the house or I would 100% have eaten it.

OP posts:
londonista · 27/02/2018 21:50

Yes also TOTM for me as well.
I really wanted the holy trinity... carbs fat sugar - a great big donut or a piece of cake. Thank goodness I've cleaned cupboards out.

I did some Wii Fit with my boys tonight. Humiliating moment at the start where you "log on" and get weighed. My little one said "bad news mum, you're still labeese" which is what he calls obese. He doesn't know what it means, just that it means you can't eat cake!!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/02/2018 08:44

Right, need to get my head back in the plan! I ate lots yesterday, I need a nice light day today! And a run.

OP posts:
veryveryquietly · 28/02/2018 08:46

Today is the 8 week mark since I started BSDing, and 7 weeks since I started weighing. I'm down 30 lbs (was 31, but had a few days glitch this week). Still sleeping better, much more energy, knees and back feel better, walking faster and further than ever, and moving down clothing sizes enough to have a bag to take to the donation place. I have 5-6 stone more to go (started from an uncomfortably large place), but this is a pretty promising start.

Very happy with progress, on the scale and off. But have been snacking and craving a lot the last few days. Am going to start another 8 week round on strict BSD, crack down on splurges, and as soon as finances permit, join the gym to tone up a little and have treadmill access, as there's absolutely no room in my flat. And as soon as I can make room in my schedule for regular gym visits.

Big goal is that I really do need to crack down on late-night cravings and splurges. Last night I had more chocolate and almonds and yogurt and then some peanuts at midnight, not horrible splurges to be sure, but still I need to get back to regular, steady meals. I missed lunch yesterday and ended up sort of grazing all day which messed everything up; I felt unsatisfied even though I ended up eating small amounts of stuff all evening and finished around 1100 cal, when I've been feeling ok on 850 for the last several weeks. Oh well.

Hope you all are hanging in there and most important, staying warm! Got to admit the down side of BSD success is that I am feeling the cold more than ever.
