Sorry to hear that Bridget - yes maybe something like a Nakd bar is called for at high pressure moments.

I had a lapse tonight - standing over the bin eating buttery mash off my son's plate .... old habits die hard!

bridgetreilly · 21/02/2018 19:00

I'm now wondering if I might actually be coming down with a virus. Have been feeling ever so slightly nauseous since it happened and I think I have a temperature. So maybe not blood sugar related at all. But I am going to be more careful in future about things like eating regularly and having something available to eat in an emergency.

AromaticSpices · 22/02/2018 08:52

How are you feeling now bridget? Better, i hope.

veryveryquietly · 22/02/2018 09:39

Yes hope you are feeling better bridget!

Back from lengthy work trip and aside from one cheatish meal and one cocktail, wasn't too awful. Definitely went over calories each day but also did tons of walking. Didn't log on MFP. Only put back on one lb so I can deal with that. Hadn't realised before, though, just how stodgy event catering is. And felt guilty picking the insides out of sandwiches, or asking for things with no bun, subbing salad for chips. Going to have some nice salmon and roasted veg for dinner tonight!

Oh, and packing hard-boiled eggs saved my bacon. Nice to have a quick protein-rich, reasonable calorie snack when faced with a buffet table piled high with pastries.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 22/02/2018 09:48

That sounds scary Bridget . I hope you start to feel better soon Flowers

londonista · 22/02/2018 11:04

Stepped on the scales this morning. I have somehow lost 5 pounds since Monday morning. Shock

I almost fell off the scales!

I have made 2 big changes in last 3 days - I've done loads of cardio in past 3 days. And I've cut my meals down to one 400 cal meal a day, and in the evening I just have been having a teaspoon of peanut butter. So maybe I've been underestimating my calories?

londonista · 22/02/2018 11:09

Very ultimate respect to sticking to it on a work trip.
I would find that very hard I think, my work trips usually involve lots of food and booze.

AromaticSpices · 22/02/2018 11:14

Wow Londonista that's an impressive loss. Not sure I could survive on that little though, I am struggling a bit on 800 a day! I'm down 4lbs now since Monday but am on my first week.

Think I'm going to have a few more carbs today, feel like i need some sort of grain with my lunch. Off to Pret I think (forgot soup AGAIN, grr)

veryveryquietly · 22/02/2018 11:28

Wow Londonista that is a lot. Wow. Hope it kickstarts things for you. Hope you can add in a bit more cals though. A bit of fat/protein (some lovely cheese along w your pb?) to ward off the shivers?

veryveryquietly · 22/02/2018 11:34

And thanks - it was v hard staying off the booze, especially as was a v stressful work time. I didn't count calories, and definitely ate too much. But did avoid rice, bread, potatoes. The margarita I had was too delicious though... And so much sugar..

bridgetreilly · 22/02/2018 13:29

Feeling absolutely normal and very relieved today! Thanks, everyone.

londonista · 22/02/2018 14:09

I know it doesn't seem like I'm eating a lot but when I add it up, I actually am using around my 800 cals per day. I try to carve up my day as follows.

300-400 cal meal usually salad and turkey slices/tuna or soup.

200 cals worth of peanut butter in the evening (one rounded teaspoon)

200 cals worth of milk in teas/coffees - I usually have about 5-6 cups a day. I'm slowly trying to swap some of them for herbal teas.

I find spending a big chunk of calories on something that is almost pure fat (the PB) has helped me enormously. So thanks to the person that recommended that.

I also take a multivitamin, an Omega oils cap and a Fybogel sachet everyday.

I am still feeling hungry a lot, mostly in the afternoon and evening, but I'm generally coping a lot better than I was. That carb flu is an absolute killer though, how are you coping Aromatic?

londonista · 22/02/2018 14:27

My brother just tagged me in this FB video ...

It's not easy being the only fattie in a thin family ... Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/02/2018 14:51

Weighed in this morning at my lowest yet, 11.7.8- which is very good considering I have thrown calorie counting to the wind this week. I have opted for a strategy of eat only plan foods, prep as much as possible to avoid impulse purchases, drink gallons of water, and keep up the exercise- which is obviously helping because even though I’ve eaten lots, I’ve still lost a few ounces!
I have however, just had a chocolate brownie in Costa after visiting the sealife centre, my first cake this year, and aside from being so ridiculously sweet, it was very very delicious. So that will probably undo my week of hard work, and I’m not entirely sure it was worth it, but hey. Sometimes a treat is nice, and this is real life after all.

Oh oh, and almost forgot to add- I put on a pair of trousers today that I bought after Christmas, and they weren’t just a little baggy, they were too loose to wear without a belt! Shame because they were really nice, but YaY!!

londonista · 22/02/2018 16:26

Oh brilliant Bear well done. I'm waiting for that moment.
About 2 years ago (!) I bought a beautiful pair of trousers from Phase Eight. When I got them home, they didn't fit (too small by at least 2 sizes Blush), but I loved them and decided to keep them. Obviously they're still siting there in my wardrobe with the tags still on, and they've become my unofficial weight loss goal.

I am very much looking forward to one day being able to wear them - or as you've done, find that they're too big!! Dare to dream!

veryveryquietly · 22/02/2018 16:40

Oh cool Londonista, I just had this horrible picture of you only getting 500 cals a day total and that was pretty awful. It is amazing how much a little bit of fat helps, in terms of feeling satisfied and also keeping the shivers away.

My little bit of yummy fat is usually a small (25 gr) chunk of Stilton, big taste treat. Although on work trip found that Cathedral City minis (a bag of several 20 gram individually wrapped) work great as well and are good for travel. One morning on this trip was driven to stirring a sachet of Nescafe decaf powder and chopped almonds into an individual plain greek yogurt - and it could have been worse (did need some sugar though, just a touch). Call it 'Hotel Eating Strategies for the Desperate BSDer'.

Oh and I love that video. That is definitely me!

Though there's a little compensation in that today I am wearing a smaller size trousers and a smaller size top than I have in the past two years. I will take more of the too-big stuff to the donation bin, with great pleasure!

veryveryquietly · 22/02/2018 16:41

and yay yay yay for baggy trousers bear - excellent work!

Oblomov18 · 22/02/2018 19:02

Well done Bear. Those trousers are a significant sign!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/02/2018 19:14

Thanks all!

I am closing the kitchen on 1500 today Blush, and nearly 100g carbs so no doubt the trousers will fit again tomorrow! I’ve still not gone crazy, just had chicken and bacon in cheddar sauce, with sprouts and broccoli while the dc and Dh had dominoes pizza! But those little bits here and there when not counting really do add up don’t they? (Plus the brownie!) I did a run though, and 17k steps.

I could really do with a few days at 800 to get myself back on track, but as it’s now the weekend nearly, plus Dh has today and tomorrow off work, I will have to try extra hard to rein myself in. I will try very hard, I promise to have just a shake tomorrow, and an evening meal, but I can make no promises. If the weather is good enough to get outside and do some jobs in the garden that will definitely help. By way of compromise, I am planning a very strict Monday- Friday next week.

I’m feeling good today thanks londonista, I have definitely discovered the trick to feeling ok in the afternoon is a lunch with grains and or fats in. I had the Pret salad with beetroot, feta, butternut squash, bulgar wheat, mint and pumpkin seeds for 238 calories and it was immense. So filling and tasty and really didn’t feel hungry at all until dinner at 8:30. The few days before I’ve been having mainly veg (or veg with a little chicken, but no carbs at all; my daily carb count has been around 20g on average, from veg) which I was worrying might not be sustainable but I think I’ve found the key. Like you with your peanut butter spoon!

I’d had a small portion of cottage pie for dinner, with courgette, peas, garlic and mushrooms sautéed in 1tsp butter with it. I was left with 200 cals for the day so decided to have a yoghurt and a small handful of grapes, a bargain at only about 95 cals. So well within the 800 today!

I have booked in to Spin tomorrow, which I’ll have to do fasted as I don’t have lunch till 1 ish and the class is at 12. Exercise while fasting is usually fine for me but I’ve not done any since reducing my intake so severely. Is it worth having half a banana or something first or maybe some nuts? I don’t think I’ll be hungry but just want to make the most of the class. Plus I’m going with a work colleague and don’t want to look like a wuss!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/02/2018 22:11

Aromatic i wouldn’t have a banana, I’d have something on plan, a small amount, a bit before you go to your class. I don’t do spinning, but I know with my running if I -literally- run on empty, I find it very hard work indeed. I usually have a shake, and a coffee about 20-30 mins before.

End of week 3, only 0.8kg this week, 5.2kg in total. I’ve been having salads a lot for lunch this week, so I’ll try switching back to soup this week to see if that helps. But I don’t feel particularly hungry so it’s feeling very sustainable. Some of the 400 cal dinners from the BSD book are really massive, so I’m also trying to not eat too much quantity, as it’ll be good practice for afterwards and maintaining.

bridgetreilly · 23/02/2018 09:15

Yes, don't have the banana. Have some yoghurt with nuts and maybe a few raspberries.

AromaticSpices · 23/02/2018 10:16

Well my day's been buggered up a bit as I was unexpectedly taken out for breakfast with work. I wasn't hungry but felt I had to order something Hmm so I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with spinach, and black coffee. Which is actually good in a way, as I wont need anything before Spin now. But bad because I wasn't actually hungry, and now I have to wait until dinner to eat again! Plus I estimated it came to around 350 cals so I've had more calories than I would have done for my lunch. Doh!
