If you're on blood pressure medication, you should talk to your doctor and get regular checks, so that if need be, your medication can be reduced. Blood pressure, like blood sugar, can be just as dangerous if it drops too low as well as if it's too high.

Evening all! One week down, and at this morning's weigh in I had lost just over 5 kgs Shock Am guessing that's mostly water weight but am still chuffed. Stayed on plan all week though averaged around 1000 cals rather than 800. Did lots of walking, too.

Couple of quick questions for the more experienced... When you do 'two meal' days, do you allow yourself a cuppa in the morning? I didn't brunch and dinner both weekend days, but needed that extra pick me up of a morning, and wasn't sure if it was cheating!

Second, are any of you on MFP? I could do with some friends Blush Especially ones with inspiring (read: any!) dinner ideas.

very, I like the sound of those fritters, I'll have to add those to the list.

winky, I have a celeriac in my kitchen drawer... What did you do with yours?

londonista and bear, well done on your losses! I have another 15kg/2 stone to go, but it's inspiring seeing people starting well/keeping on losing respectively!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/02/2018 19:28

Mona yes, I have 150ml semi skimmed in my calorie allowance every day, which gets me about 4 coffees. If I have a latte or similar milky coffee out then I count the milk extra. I drink my 4 coffees during the morning. I would be intolerable without carbs and coffee.

I do my celeriac by chopping into 2cm cubes and browning in a pan with butter/oil and salt and pepper. When it’s all browned I add a stock cube and a slosh of water, and continue cooking until it’s soft , sometimes adding more water. The stock should all evaporate away as it cooks so you don’t need to drain it. I roughly mash with a fork before serving but you don’t have to. It’s probably my current favourite food!

I’m closing the kitchen today on 835 cals, 42g carbs (12 fibre). I’ve done 14k steps inc a 5k run. Successful Monday!

I weighed in this morning and I’d gained a sneaky 0.5lb since Friday (or whenever I last weighed!) but that’s ok as I did eat rather a lot over the weekend. I have been reflecting on my weekend behaviour as for some reason, not only do I eat more but I also do a lot fewer steps (sat I only did 6k!), but my other healthy habits go out the window too, like ignoring my water alarm, and not weighing my foods. So even though I eat on plan, I eat a lot more than 800 cals! My aim this weekend is to tackle those 3 things to see if I can rein in my appetite a little bit. I think one cheat day is ok, but Friday/sat/Sun is a bit excessive!

And wow Mona, that’s a great loss. 5kg is what, 12lb? That’s amazing!!

MonaChopsis · 05/02/2018 20:41

Yeah, pretty much, just over 11th but certainly still good enough that I weighed myself yesterday and then again this morning just to be sure I hadn't made a mistake Wink I genuinely think half of it must be water weight though, I feel skinnier and my clothes feel looser but not that much looser! Still, it's a motivating result and although I'm sure my weight loss will slow down, I'm determined to keep it going in the right direction. It's DD's birthday three weeks today, and she wants us both to eat the same breakfast and dinner... Needless to say I'll be off-plan that day Grin But I'm determined to stick to plan until then, albeit at a bit over the daily 800 allowance!

bear I don't know whether to be impressed or horrified that you have 150 calories for milk alone but still manage to get at or close to 800 so often! I have 40 cals for two cups of tea and barely manage to scrape under 1000!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/02/2018 21:08

Well, it’s 75 calories (50 cal per 100 ml) but if you saw me without my coffee you’d understand how necessary it is!! When I think about it, it is nearly 10% of my calories isn’t it?

OP posts:
winkywinkybumbum · 05/02/2018 21:32

I cut my celeriac into chips, tossed in olive oil ans thyme, then roasted Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/02/2018 18:36

Ooooh celeriac chips, I might try that on Friday!

Closing the kitchen tonight on 980 cals and 65g carbs. No run today but I have done 17k steps. I went for lunch at a cafe and had a full English, minus the toast, but I did have beans which had pushed the carbs up. I decided to just have a shake for dinner as I’d had such a calorie heavy lunch but I don’t know if that will last me did the evening; I’m already hungry!

I was another pound ish down this morning, 11.8.4, which is very motivating, plus only 1.5lb to go until I hit that stone! I’d love to do that this week!

Curry yesterday for meal out but I only had a teeny bit of rice and naan to avoid the obvious questions. Today has been on plan and I just made aubergine base pizza rings which actually I really enjoyed so hopefully will see a loss again tomorrow.

londonista · 06/02/2018 21:05

I made my own hummus tonight with low fat tahini. I did it into 4 x 110g portions - a tiny amount - and it's worked out at 250 cals a pot 😳.
Honestly I used to just sit on the sofa scoffing an entire large pot before, thinking I was being virtuous!

I went to an organic cafe with my pal, and had a salad, very plain nothing naughty and all, and something incredible happened....

I couldn't bloody finish it!

That never happens. I am a plate polished from way back.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/02/2018 12:23

Londonista 110g Of hummus is quite a lot though, surely? The tesco snack pots are 28g- could you not make 55g pots at 125 cals? I have had to stop buying hummus because I eat too much of it, especially Asda’s delicious pesto and parmigiana topped one.

I’ve finalised my menu for my dinner party on Saturday night and I think I can achieve it on plan with a few modifications (although not within calories!) So: I’m doing Thai chicken cakes with sweet chilli sauce (I won’t have the sauce), and also sesame prawn toasts which again I won’t have (or maybe just one!), then a variation of Jamie’s butternut laksa curry with chicken (so it’s got peanut butter, lemon grass, chilli, lime with butternut and chicken) and I’ll do rice but I won’t have it, plus some stir fried veg (sugar snap peas, mushrooms, baby corn, pak Choi), then for dessert I am going to do a chocolate mousse but Make my own portion without sugar (so basically very dark chocolate, cherries and double cream) . I don’t think I will feel too deprived, hopefully the dessert will be ok without added sugar as I’m not so used to it.

Back to today: I am feeling grouchy. Ds has another sore throat and cold (snottiest baby In the world) and we’ve had several broken nights, plus I can feel my own throat threatening to get it too. Plus, my strategy to have a shake for dinner last night left me hungry and miserable all evening, and i woke up thinking of all the food I can’t have. That’s not a great start to the day is it? I’ve had a shake now for lunch, and dinner is a portion of fish pie from the feeezer which I remember being delicious so that should keep me going. It doesn’t help that it’s freaking freezing, even inside the house!

veryveryquietly · 07/02/2018 13:39

I know Londonista I used to regularly come home and collapse on the sofa with half a container of hummus and two toasted pitas...and a glass or two of wine. And then make dinner.

I love the Sabra hummus so much, but for BSD I started restricting myself to 40 g at a time, and eating it with cucumber slices rather than bread or even carrot sticks. I find if I measure it out into a tiny bowl (I have some leftover tiny dessert pots) it feels less like I'm having a snack for ants. And it's usually half of my lunch, rather than just a snack.

I do miss the post-work relaxation ritual though. Have to figure out a BSD way to do it.

veryveryquietly · 07/02/2018 13:40

I want to come to your house for dinner bear!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/02/2018 18:32

FWIW londonista, your hummus is less calories than the tesco version per 100g so you’re already onto a winner even if you eat the same amount! I suppose if you factor it in as the bulk of protein in a meal then you could still have it, but would it feel like a meal, or would it leave you wanting more?

I’m closing the kitchen on 1057 cals, and about 45g carbs. I have been unspeakably grouchy all day, and hungry, and snacky, and kept finding myself in the fridge. I did do a run, and have done 18k steps, but I have that horrible, meh feeling. I don’t want chocolate, but my devil on my shoulder is saying I do, and wine, and crisps..... managed to resist so far by eating cherry tomatoes!

I had hummus with a couple of falafels in lettuce wraps for lunch yesterday. Very yummy and not too bad on the calorie/carb front at all.

winkywinkybumbum · 07/02/2018 20:52

Hi all.

Defo want to come to yours for dinner bear!

Is it possible I am eating too few calories? Scales have not moved since Friday and my morning weigh in has been 12st7lb each day since. MFP says my average calories for the week are 625. Today I am closing the kitchen on 325 (ish) calories Blush I am eating an egg muffin each morning (61cals) and then a chicken salad for lunch then the same for the dinner. I am having loads of water and peppermint tea and am finding im just not hungry for any more food. This is so new to me.

Am I doing it wrong? I don't do any exercise by the way and I'm just coming off my period so maybe that is it. I was just so excited when I lost 3lbs in 3 days that I expected it to continue.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/02/2018 21:26

Winky I would be wary of eating so few calories consistently. You need fat for this plan to work properly, and your food you mention sounds relatively low in fat. A few very low calorie days won’t hurt but consistently low could make it harder for you in the long run. I’d add some cheese to your egg muffin for example, or similar to boost it up a bit.

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 07/02/2018 21:34

Period will definitely have affected your weight, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. But I agree with Bear, to be so far below the 800 calories is not a good idea on a regular basis.

winkywinkybumbum · 07/02/2018 21:35

Thanks bear. It's weird. I used to eat so much but now I just don't have the same appetite. Yesterday I did have avocado too which helps with the fat and cals too.

I think I need to read the actual books as I haven't really done that. I have been focussing on low cal and low carb but not so much fat.

Thanks for your help x

winkywinkybumbum · 07/02/2018 21:35

Oh and thanks Bridget too x

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/02/2018 22:11

Winky gosh yes, definitely read the books. The science is all explained in there. Think of the plan more as ‘ low calorie portions of high calorie foods’ rather than low cal - so avoid fat free, low fat, etc and eat small amounts of foods that have good fats. Aside from any other possible health concerns for eating low low calorie, I’d be concerned that I’d find myself bingeing. I don’t think I’ve ever come in under 800 calories though, so I’m not an expert on the consequences of that.

OP posts:
winkywinkybumbum · 07/02/2018 22:15

Blush oops posted too soon!

Ah I see. That will explain why it's not working as such.

winkywinkybumbum · 08/02/2018 07:37

....and after all that, the scales have finally moved.

Going to get the books today so I can follow plan properly.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/02/2018 08:12

Morning all
Winky this plan is a total learning curve, and will likely turn everything you thought you knew on its head, so the books will really help explain why it works. We’re all here if you have any questions.

I feel a lot less cranky today! I must have had a better night’s sleep. I haven’t managed 800 calories at all this week for one reason or another so today I’m really going to try and stick to it! I’ve been averaging about 1200 a day, which isn’t bad and is well below my tdee, but I find a few days at 800 really shows on the scales.

OP posts:
ICJump · 08/02/2018 08:23

I’ve been quite the last few days but have been going really well.

The breakfast shake is dull so I might get a new flavour.

Having a lowest calorie lunch and a nice dinner planned has been good. I’ve upped my steps too.
I’ve lost 7.6 kilos so far.
