Thank you London. It is silly isn't it? It's one bloody meal I have indulged in.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/02/2018 09:26

Londonista I understand that feeling too- it’s as if I’ve created a kind of sugar free bubble around me that I don’t want to burst, and the longer it goes on the stronger it becomes. All you can do is move on and get back onto the plan. It’s not the one meal that will damage your weight loss it’s when you carry on eating.

Last night I drove Dh to this party, stayed for one glass of wine, then drove home, so I had a nice quiet evening and no hangover today! We’re at a 3yo birthday party today, which should be ok food wise as I just remind myself how incredibly revolting little children can be which puts me off eating anything they may have pawed at or coughed on!

We’re having pulled pork tonight, with loads of roasted veggies, which could be a little carb heavy, so I will need to tread carefully.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Had a bad night last night. Ended up being ok-ish on the numbers (low 900s cals), but was craving lots of things I haven't had for weeks. Not because I was hungry, but mostly because I was bored. And thinking about how long I'm going to have to do this to get somewhere healthier. And stamping my feet (mentally) about the fact that it's constantly dark and cold.

Grr. So, have decided after a nice lunch I'll head out, even if is cold. And will try not to fill calorie and carbs hole with shopping.

ElanorGamgee · 04/02/2018 09:51

On Sunday I make these for breakfast for everyone, eating my porridge is really hard on a Sunday. I am sort of doing ok though, remind myself that losing weight is good, so are cinnamon buns but I want to lose weight more.

veryveryquietly · 04/02/2018 10:27

Oooh Elanor I will have to make those...for company.

And yay bridget there are few problems roasted halloumi can't solve.

ElanorGamgee · 04/02/2018 11:14

They have been eaten very, not by me I might add.

I am going to make the Jamie Oliver butternut squash soup with ham hock and pearl barley today. What is the verdict on pearl barley in (very) small qualities. I thought it was mentioned the book but I can’t see it anywhere.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/02/2018 12:34

Elanor pearl barley is ok I think I small amounts, like with all grains, although I personally avoid them as they give me carb cravings. I would just have a small amount and see how you go.

My Sunday brunch/breakfast is always avocado, cheese (this week it was halloumi) and really crispy bacon. It’s so good!

bridgetreilly · 04/02/2018 13:14

The best thing about having halloumi at dinner last night is that there was plenty for lunch today and for tomorrow too! I try to have something a bit special on Sunday - smoked salmon and scrambled egg, or avocado and bacon, or whatever. It's nice to have a treat to look forward to.

winkywinkybumbum · 04/02/2018 17:22

HOLY SWEET JESUS. CELERIAC WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!?

Excuse the shouting but it's like I've discovered sex for the first time or something.

How can it be so healthy???

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/02/2018 18:32

I thought the same winky, especially after having no carby stuff for so long. I hate celery but love celeriac. I use Jamie Oliver’s roasted celeriac recipe, it’s delicious!

OP posts:
winkywinkybumbum · 04/02/2018 18:50

I have even text people about my discovery Blush

veryveryquietly · 04/02/2018 18:57

Guess I'll have to try celeriac now, have never had it either.

Closing my kitchen on exactly - exactly - 800 calories, I don't know how that happened. Slightly over on ideal fat grams and just over ideal carbs, but eh, whatever.

Made these courgette and feta fritters, well, half a batch, ate some, putting rest in fridge for later this week. Not bad, but I definitely needed to let the grated courgette dry out longer (I only had the patience to let it go 30 minutes, not an hour), as I then had trouble getting my fritters to maintain structural integrity. Substituting spinach for most of the herbs may not have helped either, as spinach is wetter and I didn't chop it that finely. Still, if you think of them as basically a little fried courgette, feta and egg pancake, they're decent with a dollop of yogurt or such. Let's see how they reheat tomorrow...

veryveryquietly · 04/02/2018 19:00

Needless to say, my fritters did not look nearly as even in size or nicely browned as the blogger's. How do food bloggers do it? (Also, they needed more than a sprinkle of salt, and would probably benefit from some cayenne or chopped red pepper as well!)

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 04/02/2018 19:26

Those fritters look lovely. I'll need to try them.

bear well done on your losses. You're doing fabulously!

Well, it was snowy and icy here mid-week and I managed to fall down the outside steps. I've bruised my back and now am even more sedentary than usual so I expect there'll be no losses when I weigh in tomorrow.

I've not been cooking much because it hurts to stand but I have lots of peanut butter and was going to try making peanut butter chicken this week. Does anyone have a favourite recipe I can try?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/02/2018 19:30

Closing the kitchen today on 1610 calories and a lot of carbs (90g), although I have technically remained on plan all day. I’ve just been extra hungry!

Looking at my stats for the week, I have averaged approx 1100 a day, which is less than last week. I am in deficit every single day, which is good, I am going to continue with my weekday routine of a shake for brunch and an evening meal- I like it because I don’t have to think about my food at all during the day which keeps me out of the kitchen. I’ve planned a few new recipes for evening meals.

I’ve done 12k steps today which included a 5k run. I often don’t hit my steps target at the weekend so that’s really positive. I think I’ll have regained a little bit from last week as it’s virtually inevitable, although I am still counting this weekend as a win after attending 3 parties and not succumbing to even a mouthful of cake....!!

Going forward to next week, I’d like to see my average calories under 1000, but as always, things crop up. My strategy of aiming for 700 to achieve 800 worked well so I’ll be doing that again. We have dh’s parents coming for a meal next Saturday so I am determined to find a menu that fits with BSD but is also suitable for guests!

Have a great week everyone

Wow bear that's great, an incredible amount of willpower fighting the cake, plus doing a 5k.

Place sorry to hear about your fall. Ice is just too damn hard and your back must really ache. And if you do make the fritters, add more spices to them :) Or make a spicy yogurt dip or something. They need a kick.

londonista · 04/02/2018 20:07

Very just quoting Tom Kerridge, he often uses bicarb to bind low fat patties (ie ones without egg, flour etc).

I've had a lo cal day, even considering i stole ate a few of my son's crisps at lunch. Weigh in day tomorrow - feeling the fear. Stayed on plan all week, hoping for at least a 3-4 pound loss.

londonista · 04/02/2018 20:07

I am deffo making those patties!

londonista · 04/02/2018 20:12

Bear I would take that as a win. Any week spent mostly in deficit is a week where theoretically you should lose.
It's a hard diet to socialise on, so I'm not going to beat myself up if I'm out somewhere and something lovely is put in front of me.
That said, I have found I'm changing plans a bit to suit the diet. I.e. meeting someone for coffee not lunch etc.

It's my birthday in 6 weeks. I can only currently fit into about 20% of my wardrobe so I'm hoping to get into a nice dress for it!

houseRefurb · 04/02/2018 22:49

londonista, you say, I think the most worrying thing would be anyone with blood pressure issues should definitely get advice. Can I ask why please? From what I gathered from the book, the warning was for ppl who are on hypertensive medications as during the diet the BP is likely to fall and combined with the medications, the BP might go really low. I am borderline hypertensive but not on medication. The GP wants me to try losing weight and changing lifestyle. So, just curious about your stmt Smile

houseRefurb · 04/02/2018 22:50

Thank you e'one for taking the time to answer my Qs and sharing your thoughts

londonista · 05/02/2018 09:49

Refurb, yes I just meant if you suffer from blood pressure problems (or really any underlying medical condition, however unrelated it might seem), I'd speak to a doctor. Reason being, I think the diet, at least initially, is quite a big shock for your body, taking away a huge source of readily convertible fuel overnight.
I've had quite a few dizzy moments and have generally been on a bit of a roller coaster. I've had nausea most of the week, I had diarrhoea for 2 days (think too much artificial sweetener) and mostly just been a bit weak and sleepy.
I'd just have a chat with a doc first, see what they think. Good luck.

londonista · 05/02/2018 09:52

I weighed myself. 6 pounds off in a week.
I know that's good, so why am I feeling a bit disappointed??
It's just that being the first week, I knew it would be virtually the only time I'd have a big loss, following weeks will be less.

Anyway, if I managed to lose even half that for the next 7 weeks I'll be at my target of losing 2 stone in 8 week.

Have a good week all.

veryveryquietly · 05/02/2018 10:28

hey londonista thanks for the tip about the bicarb. I added more almond meal as suggested in the recipe and that helped a little, but not much. I think I also need to let more water drain from the courgette next time. Which involves planning further in advance, but at least now I know.

And CONGRATS on the 6 lb. That's amazing. You are 25% towards your goal, but in 12.5% of the time allotted. Think about it: if this were the workplace and you'd gotten that much of a start on a task, your co-workers would be super impressed (and jealous).

6 lb is a lot, really.

londonista · 05/02/2018 10:47

Oooh Very .... 25% towards my goal ... that has cheered me right up!
Hadn't thought of it like that, thank you!
