Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Bzz I find exercising fine in my fasting window as I'm not hungry anymore in the morning anyway so it just feels normal.

For the people who've just started it does take a while for your body to break the habit of breakfast (or whatever meal you're missing). But once you've adjusted it feels really normal!

SarahBeeney · 30/04/2018 23:44

Just started reading this, very interesting so far. It's like a book version of the recent M Mosley documentary about HIIT exercise.

I really like the Joe Wickes dvd but if this Fast exercise works then I'll be able to do even less with good results with any luck!

The documentary showed a Fast workout which goes as follows....

Star Jumps
Squats
Static sprint
Star jumps
Squats

1 minute for each going flat out with 30 seconds rest in between. So dead quick!I always feel sore the next few days which is weird considering how brief it is.

I've started eating between 12&8 but I really need a couple of cups of coffee with milk first thing. Is that ok?

TheWizardofWas · 02/05/2018 07:41

Coffee with a dash of milk would be fine. I am sticking to the rule of nothing more than 30 Cals.

TheWizardofWas · 02/05/2018 20:10

Am now for work in a totaly different time zone. This is going to become impossible!

Fortysix · 02/05/2018 22:40

Wiz I did it for seven days in the US 5 hours behind BST. it actually was pretty easy and far better than expected but i was 'maintaining' rather than actively losing. Just kept drinking water.

SarahBeeney · 03/05/2018 00:37

I always have a coffee with milk first thing.

FussInBoots · 03/05/2018 21:05

On day 7 of water only fasting. My fasts have ranged from 16-19 hours per day.
Feeling really sluggish today.
I have lost 5lb since I started last Friday so I'm really pleased with that!
I think the foods I am eating are having more of an effect on me now I only eat 2 meals.
So when I had chicken fajitas during lunch I felt really good... today I had a sausage sandwich (lost inspiration for work lunch) but now I feel really blah!
I thought by having any proteins/carbs or sugars before the end of your fast would actually break your fast and stop the maximum effect of the fast? That's why I don't bother having tea until after my fast has ended.

Notsoyummi · 05/05/2018 20:07

I have lost my voice not sure if fast related or just happened anyway.

CarrotPuff · 10/05/2018 09:43

I'm getting back to this. I naturally skip breakfast most week days anyway because I don't have time to eat it. I guess I need to extend that to weekends too.

Going away in 3 weeks and a bit and would ideally like to shift a few lbs for that, although overall I need to lose over 2st.

Starting weight: 10.13
First mini-goal: 10.7 (this is what I was last summer)
Pre-DC weight: 9.3 (DD is now 2 Blush)
Ideal weight: 8.8-8.10

Had a good day yesterday, will aim to have the same today. Just need to snack less and limit sugary treats for weekends only! And get back to exercising...

mrssunshinexxx · 11/05/2018 15:26

Bzz yes me I run most mornings and only eat 12.30pm-7.30pm

Losingthewill8 · 13/05/2018 20:24

Hi, I've been reading your stories, and had only known about 5:2 till the last couple of days reading up on 16:8.

My question is this: as I drink 170ml of goats milk kefir usually 10 min before my breakfast every morning at approx 7am, could I take this kefir and then not have anything but water till 1pm ish?

Fortysix · 14/05/2018 21:26

Strictly speaking you are not supposed to have anything barring water or black tea or black coffee. However it's 'your' version of 16:8 you are creating so if you need to have kefir at that time then I'd give a whirl for a few weeks and review. Or else maybe have it at another time of day?

Losingthewill8 · 15/05/2018 08:21

Fortysix, thank you. I managed a 16:8 Sunday afternoon 3pm to Monday morning 7am, and the same yesterday to this morning so it worked out ok for those 2 mornings.
Should I be on a lower calorie for 2 days as well as 16:8 on other 5 days?

Fortysix · 15/05/2018 10:49

Losing we all do different versions.
Some people just eat their normal amounts of food in their eight hour window and don't make huge efforts to particularly cut back on calories or do any exercise.
Others watch their portion sizes and eat in their eight hour window
Some marry some of the practices of the 5:2 into their eating window.
Some calorie count.
Some do incremental exercise.
Some do a lot of extra exercise.
Obviously if you want to lose weight with a specific goal in mind and an imminent date then the more of the above combined the quicker.
However I think it's as much about arresting the eating habits that got us to our starting points and accepting that you have to make a change AND do 16:8. For me that has been cutting back on everything with white flour/ sugar and boosting protein and green vegetables and doubling my exercise. I lost 2.5 stone reasonably fast but I still do 16:8 to maintain my weight. In the 9 months since hitting target I've put back about 5-6 lbs and that's my current battle. But essentially I've changed many of my extremely bad eating habits and operate without breakfast.

Losingthewill8 · 15/05/2018 13:09

Wow! You’ve done brilliantly!

Ok. So I basically find what works for me best. Thank you.

DrowningEveryDay · 25/05/2018 09:25

Joining! I've been doing this for over a month now. I lost weight fast initially but the past few weeks it's plateau city.

I'm doing low carb + IF + calorie counting.

Anyway despite the unchanged weight, I think my clothes are getting looser.

happytobemrsg · 28/05/2018 22:40

I'm super late to the party but can I join? I can't do the 5:2 diet because I'd feel too ill on the fast days. I'm doing 10am - 6pm. I've been doing 16:8 for 4 days and it's gradually getting easier. I usually snack in the evenings whilst watching tv so that's already calories cut. I was trying to calorie count too but found myself feeling crap in the evening.

The problem I'm having is remembering to eat - I seem to stay fuller for longer after lunch, it gets to 5pm and I remember I only have an hour to cook & eat something!! I'm never usually this full.

Alongside this I'm doing 2x PT sessions a week, trying to up it to 3 but tough with a young DS. A month ago I was 9st 9.4lb. I weighed myself today & I'm 9st 5lb, possibly lighter since I'm due on any day. I will try to do a Monday weigh-in to keep me motivated! So far though I can really see how it can become a lifestyle choice rather than a diet

TheWizardofWas · 01/06/2018 10:49

I am adding lowish carbs to this. Find it harder over half term when I have led control over what and when I eat. Wondering if low carb is possible for life....I think I wouldn't mind but it buggers up family eating and DP really hates any talk of diet.

TheWizardofWas · 01/06/2018 10:49

Less control, I meant

happytobemrsg · 03/06/2018 16:06

I've just done my measurements & I've lost another 1.5lb. So since 8th April I've lost nearly 6lb doing PT 2x week & 16:8 for a week & half. I'm really pleased. I've also lost 1.5cm off my waist ( though I wish it was more!). My first target is to get to 9st so I need to lose another 3.5lb. Finding 16:8 very easy to stick to.

seven201 · 07/06/2018 20:20

I've been doing this since the weekend and it's going well! But... I'm TTC and just realised that maybe fasting isn't good for my fertility? Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I tried google but it's mainly in relation to 5:2 which is quite different. I really don't want to muck up my already not too regular cycles!

SarahBeeney · 07/06/2018 23:44

Hi seven,I'm no fertility expert so worth doing some research. However there was a programme on last night called The truth about Carbs and they had a section about a fertility clinic. It'll be on the iPlayer so worth a watch.

seven201 · 08/06/2018 06:47

Thanks Sarah. I'll take a look tonight

happyfrown · 19/06/2018 11:36

can I join in? I had written a post but then cam across this group so il paste what I asked here if thats ok?

im looking to try this out but so much conflicting info im reading.

so do I just eat what I usually eat, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in the 8hr window. OR do I skip a meal meaning im say 3-400 cals down?

im not over weight im skinny fat -yes its a thing- and just need to tone up that last stubborn bit of fat. belly fat is an issue - with that extra poochy bit its making me look bloated. even tho I ab train. its the damn fat. and possibly a little loose skin not showing off my hard work lol. also I do glute work but no amounts of squats will tone up the ass meaning I give myself a round of applause when doing jumping jacks! Blush

I usually eat around 1400-1500cals a day, I count macros and try to keep to a protein high lower carb diet. I have a fit bit that shows my cals in vs out. I always burn more.

I go gym 2 days a week for weights and do home weights/exercise for abs/ arms etc. but no matter what I cant get the last jiggly bits rid!
according to the gym machine im 22% fat.
any help on this fasting is appreciated.
