Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Crones - how long have you been doing this for and has it

oopsadaisy77 · 06/10/2018 20:11

...worked?

Pupsiecola · 08/10/2018 20:39

Is anyone from this thread continuing with the 16:8 approach to eating? I'm a newbie.

JC4PMPLZ · 12/10/2018 09:39

I am - am now 67.9 with clothes on - so feel it is going down. Am finally in the healthy weight category according to BMI but going to keep up till I get to lower 60s - if that is possible. Don't find it hard at all really - but I guess it must stall eventually.

whiteheather · 12/10/2018 22:26

Joining in belatedly... I have just done 7 days of 16:8, eating between 12 and 8pm and sometimes starting later at 1pm. I don't possess scales, but clothes were getting tighter and remedial action was required!

I have already completed 4 weeks without alcohol. Wine was my downfall after a stressful working day, but I no longer miss it and have a clearer head as an added bonus. I have also saved money by not buying alcohol or snacks and am doing around 1200 cals a day with workouts that are not too intense due to an injury.

I'd like to see more rapid progress on the fat busting front, but my waist measurement has reduced by approx 1". That is encouraging but another 4" is my goal. I donlt intend to buy scales as it could be too depressing.

I have 'fasted' before (on an involuntary basis due to PTSD) when my weight dropped dramatically through eating almost nothing for several months. I think the 16:8 regimen is ideal for me as I rarely feel hungry before midday and find coffee keeps me ticking over.

This thread has been very informative and incredibly motivating and I hope to report on progress and hear how others are getting on.

gttia · 19/10/2018 09:43

I've been doing this for two weeks and not lost anything. I'm getting really fed up has anyone else had this?

Kazza186 · 31/10/2018 00:01

Hello to all, I live in Perth Australian and am so glad to find this thread as I need to see if IF really works. And also see how people fare.

Im in my mid forties, not an active person my life and have a desk bound job for 12 hours daily. Imagine the amount of snacks i consumed to keep me sane. Im a medium size 168cm weighing 68.5kg but my belly is massive after a year of working in an office. I decided to do something without much exercise and come across this method

I started 18-6 IF on Tues 23.10.18, today is my 9th day. I measured my waist last night and it has dropped from 93.5cm to 89cm (4.5cm off) I have not weigh myself as I work away in a mine site theres no weighing scale. Im going home on Monday week and i shall update you

Gttia, it worked for me, i am not sure how you do it but i cut down all sugars, no carbo (bread and rice) except from fruits and pumpkin/sweet potatoes.

I wake up at 4.15am daily, will have a cup of black coffee at 9am and have 2 -3 bottles of water in between until 11am. I then break my fast with a banana. Have my lunch at 11.45am, 4 to 5 slices of slice roast pork with some salads. I will have a glass of soy milk at 3pm and more water, a banana and 3 pieces of mandarins in between. Dinner is at 6.30pm, 2 pcs of grilled fish with some bakes pumpkin and boiled broccolli.

I am more conscious about healthy eating now and will continue to adopt this method of eating for all the benefits listed

alltalknobaby · 31/10/2018 19:36

Newbie here. Just wondering who calorie counts along with fasting? I've been on 1,400 ish for a while and not losing anything. Do I still need to stick religiously to this limit with IF, or can I go over a little? Not loads obvs.

alltalknobaby · 01/11/2018 13:33

Bump

Darkdaysdislike · 09/11/2018 12:51

Can I join? Can we get it going again? Been trying this for about a week-tricky when traveling with work. Doing 12.30- 8.30 ish!! Going to post numbers to try to motivate me.....it will be a shock to type it. So currently weighing in at 14 stone (5ft 11) so only a 14-16 and don't look particularly overweight (with clothes on!) but Bmi bad. Has crept on after kids but youngest 10- no longer an excuse. Would love to get down to 12 and half St. Could I lose a stone in 6 weeks? ( bikini). Please be honest!!

JC4PMPLZ · 11/11/2018 22:04

Know what you mean about travelling. I have quite a few European trips coming up and I just can't resist breakfast. I try to low carb, but European brown bread or croissants is just too tempting. Anyhow have stuck on around 68kg for too long. Just inside healthy BMI now. Will try to get back on the downwards path when on UK soil.

Notreallyhappy · 12/11/2018 07:02

For weight loss to happen you eat to create a calorie deficit.
Find out you tdee ( there's some on the 5:2 thread) then work from there.

alltalknobaby · 12/11/2018 09:37

Well now I'm depressed. I'm 5'8" and 171lbs. I just worked out my TDEE (1,800) and it then told me that my ideal weight is around the 10st mark. I haven't been 10st since I was about 16 years old and even at my slimmest in the last 10 years I've never gone below 11st. Urgh.

Darkdaysdislike · 12/11/2018 12:36

Not just me then -calculated tdee before and maintenance is 2517- I would struggle to eat that -I've done 1200 calories a day for two weeks before and nothing seems to change -hence looking at when I eat. Also advises to get to 10 stone 8. Last time I weighed this I was 23 after travelling for over a year and eating mainly rice for the final month -I looked too thin! So not sure that tdee helpful for me. Small steps-
I'd love to get to 12.5!!

Chatnel36 · 19/11/2018 01:51

When you are doing your fasting period, can you have tea or coffee ?

Darkdaysdislike · 19/11/2018 10:25

I just drink tea with a tiny amount of skimmed milk. Doable!

DressAgency · 07/01/2019 13:36

Can you have a veggie juice during fasting or is it just tea, water and coffe?

SarahBeeney · 10/01/2019 20:58

I would imagine a veggie juice would break your fast.
I do drink tea and coffee (with semi skimmed) and still lose weight.

Knittink · 14/01/2019 13:03

Veggie juice would definitely break your fast. I only have water, black tea or black coffee.

springlenner · 24/10/2019 14:31

Can I resurrect this thread? It's taken me three days to read through it all.
I'm new to IFing. ( I did 5:2 years ago after the Michael Mosley programme but couldn't stick to it) Over the years have had success with WW and SW but the weight has crept back on. Honestly, I know SW works for me but I'm sick and tired of syns and all of the hidden sugar. I think IF will suit me and my lifestyle better.
Currently I am on day 4 and having no problems, I don't normally eat breakfast but for the past few months have been grabbing pastries etc mid-morning and developing a habit of snacking in front of the TV late at night. So I think cutting out eating at these two times should help.
I've been careful with what I eat this week but by no means an angel but have fitted it within my window of 12-8pm. ( in fact yesterday was busy after 5.30 pm so managed nearly 19 hours)
I'm 5:4 and started last Sunday at 10st 6lbs and going to be weighing in on Tuesdays ( out of habit - was my old SW day).
Hoping to drop a stone before Christmas and then aiming for 9st2-9st4 in the New Year. Also hoping for some health benefits, my sleep can be awful and have had increasing aches and pains for the past few months.
Would anyone like to join me?
All hints and tips welcomed :)

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 28/10/2019 18:31

@Springlenner I have been doing this for three days. Fascinated to see if it will work. It's the only diet plan I could see working o Christmas day. I have been eating quite a lot though so not sure if it will work.

Not going to weigh myself as I don't actually want to know what I weigh but will judge progress on the belt on my jeans.

So far I have noticed less indigestion and bloating so that is a bonus.

cansu · 01/11/2019 19:21

I have been doing this approach with some tweaks and it is working really well for me. I don't eat before 12 but I do have two coffees with milk during the morning. I also roughly calorie count most days by sticking to about 1000 calories a day and making healthy choices. I have had a few days where I have had the odd glass of wine or dinner out and it has still worked well. Best of all I feel completely in control for once.

Alberto74 · 13/11/2019 09:30

Good morning - Anyone still following this thread ? Just found it when googling for the 16:8 diet.

I am 45 and hypothyroid and struggling with terrible headaches and this diet was thrown up on a Hypothyroid forum as being really helpful. At this stage I would try anything!! Could do with couple lb's off but its more for the headaches i've been having that i am giving it a go.
Only on my first week, and headaches so far getting worse instead of better, but going to try and stick it out.
Have also cut out coffee which probably isnt helping either, but feeling so rough that its worth a go.
xx

Carusa123 · 23/11/2019 07:23

Hi, I've just found this thread and am going to start 16:8 next Monday. I dont have a huge amount of weight to lose...am 156cm and currently 59kg. Would like to get closer to 55kg for comfort and general health. I dont have a calorie count plan yet. Just looking to cut out one meal (breakfast) and the evening/late night snacking.
How are the rest of you getting on?
