Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Give it a go! Let us know how you get on Smile

ElspethFlashman · 14/05/2017 13:16

I'll start tomorrow.

I do like my red wine once a week though. I wouldn't love giving that up completely. It's my only little indulgence. I'm guessing that with 16:8 people don't drink at all.

Either that or they have it at lunchtime but don't fancy that much!

FinallyHere · 14/05/2017 14:04

I have fallen into doing this: after eating LCHF for a couple of months, I was just not getting hungry ever.

Realised to what extent I had been eating to avoid becoming hungry (and be unable to control my appetite ). This has all just melted away on LCHF. Now I enjoy my food but can easily skip a meal without any urge to eat more to make up for it at the next meal. Usually go to sleep / get up early, so have breakfast early and a late lunch and that's it for the day. After a late start, have lunch and supper. All good.

HomityBabbityPie · 14/05/2017 14:09

Really pleased to find you all. Was doing 5:2 but kept going over. Did LCHF but hate restricting a particular food group, it just feels wrong to me.

Lost a stone so far doing 16:8 and have made no huge modifications to what I've been eating - eg dinner tonight will be pasta - but I'm just not as hungry.

HomityBabbityPie · 14/05/2017 14:10

And I still have tea with milk (full fat!) outside my 8 hour window.

iknowimcoming · 14/05/2017 14:17

I'm doing lchf too and also drink tea with milk in the fasting hours (diet doctor says that's ok I think) my eating window is 12/1pm to 8/9pm and that suits me perfectly as this week I've had a glass of wine (with soda) with my dinner twice. I only drink white wine but red is even better for you! In the fasting hours I usually only drink water (2 cups of tea in the mornings) but I do occasionally have a glass of milk in the evening. I know I'm only a week (almost!) in but I am already thinking this could be 'the one' that I could really easily do for ever! ShockGrin

BlaWearie · 14/05/2017 19:01

Elspeth, I might give this a try tomorrow too; do you want to buddy up? I'll need at least one cuppa first thing though!

ElspethFlashman · 14/05/2017 19:06

Sure, I'm undecided about the first cup of tea. I get up so bloody early that I think I need it to wake up, but possibly I'm just dehydrated and vast quantities of water would do.

I told DH about it tonight and he's the world's worst cynic about diets - he radiates disapproval of strict eating plans as he believes they're not sustainable - but even he says it sounds fairly sensible.

theresamustgo · 15/05/2017 11:16

I have now read so many contradictory things about this diet. I wonder if it is really just the calorie restriction that works - and the focus on eating only when really hungry (rather than reaching nay fat burning stage). I guess I wont know till I see any change in my own body. Not feeling it yet after a week, but think I might go and get weighed n a chemist later, just so I know what I am dealing with. Anyone else got other ideas?

ElspethFlashman · 15/05/2017 11:25

I started this morning. At home so didn't have breakfast till 10.30. I had a homemade chicken wrap which I would never have for breakfast but it felt more like brunch really.

I did have to have that cup of tea at 7am though as I was awake part of the night with one of the kids so really needed it!

So 10.30 + 8 = 6.30pm. Not bad really!

littlemissM92 · 15/05/2017 13:23

So happy to find this thread hi everyone I've been playing with this 'diet' for a couple of months now so hVent noticed much weight loss maybe a couple of lbs but I'm going to give it a really good go. Does anyone do it 6 days a week and have a day off, or not? I usually do 12-8pm I normally have a coffee at about 10am just to keep me going then lunch is usually porridge with grated apple in and cinnamon, some fruit lots of water and tonight will be gammon, new pots garden peas couple of eggs and some pineapple. Then I will sew my mouth shut!

HomityBabbityPie · 15/05/2017 13:25

I wouldn't have a regular day off this one, no - I think that will hugely slow down weight loss.

I eat between 12 and 8 and I'm much less hungry and have lost a fairly substantial amount.

BlaWearie · 15/05/2017 19:41

I managed ok too, although this part of the day is usually when I snack too much. I work from home so often have breakfast after the school run.
If you know you'll be eating later in the evening one day, do you just move everything back by a few hours? Or do you have to keep to the same 8 hour slot every day?

littlemissM92 · 15/05/2017 19:44

Bla good question
Hopefully someone will be along to tell us Smile

MoominFlaps · 15/05/2017 19:51

You can move it as much as you want provided you still get a 16 hour fast. Eg if you finish your eating at 9pm you have to wait til 1pm the following day before you can eat again.

BlaWearie · 15/05/2017 20:34

Goodness, there's an incentive not to snack in the evening!

MoominFlaps · 15/05/2017 20:50

That's why it works so well Smile

ElspethFlashman · 15/05/2017 22:37

I am a bit peckish now I'll admit. It was probably about 5 when I last ate.

I went to bed early to avoid the kitchen!

MoominFlaps · 16/05/2017 06:34

I start my eating at 12 so I have up til 8 to eat, I find that the best.

ElspethFlashman · 16/05/2017 08:00

I found a nice little summary pdf. Seems you can take several days off a week.

littlemissM92 · 16/05/2017 08:18

Thanku for that fab to know you can drink tea coffee in the fasting hours because that one coffee at 10am literally keeps me going til lunch

BlaWearie · 16/05/2017 08:30

Managed ok last night, but I'm hungry now!

theresamustgo · 16/05/2017 08:33

I don't really have a problem with the eating window. Think I have done that intermittently anyway, out of busyness, but I just feel nothing will change. Been at it for a week and feel no different. Just feeling fat, fifty and frustrated right now! I wonder if one really needs to combine it with calorie counting. But I really don't want to do that.

MoominFlaps · 16/05/2017 08:41

What have you been eating in the window theres?

theresamustgo · 16/05/2017 08:45

Yesterday a tub of cottage cheese, a plain yoghurt and some falafel balls for lunch. at dinner time, a small baked potato with a little butter, steamed spinach and some grated carrot salad. Small bit of cheesecake for pudding. That was a bit carby probably, but DP was cooking. I think I am doing ok on the calories but have a sedentary job and maybe just need far less than I can contemplate!
