Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Am starting 16:8 on Monday - same day as I start a new job. Plan is to eat between 12-8. I’ve a bad back at the moment so it’s limiting exercise but I do 2 Pilates classes a week. I’m a vegetarian with some food intolerances so am planning on using the green sw plan.

Any help or ideas will be gratefully received. I’ve a sugar addiction and need to stop the weight gain!

Hi there - is anyone here also doing boot-camp? The dilemma i have is that on 16:8 i get used to the feeling of being a bit hungry but I can ignore it quite effectively. The first couple days of boot camp were tough as i was much hungrier than normal in the morning but now it is back to normal - so, if my eating window opens at 12 delaying for an hour is not a big issue. The boot camp rules say eat when you feel hungry - so now I feel hungry-ish but i don’t really want to eat (does that make sense?). I am definitely eating more in my 8 hour window than pre-boot camp. Any advice?

Fortysix · 12/10/2017 13:10

Velocity when I hike up exercise (say burn 600-800 calories in a session) I also find I get much hungrier before my eating window starts and sometimes struggle to wait until 12 noon to eat. Do't actually do bootcamp though. All I'd say is when you do decide to eat I'd suggest avoiding sugar in what you are eating as that's what makes me go off piste the most. Just go for protein and fibre if you can is what I would do.
I've been in the US for last week so my time clock/ eating hours are out of kilter. I'm 2 lbs a drift but it was difficult trying not to max out on muffins and cookies and pancakes.

Not sure who is active on our thread right now. Unveil yourselves and let us know your progress. It really helps when you know others are avoiding food after 8 pm and forcing extra exercise...

Velocity · 12/10/2017 19:12

Thanks @forty-six, will try upping the protein. I been quite consistent with the 8- hour eating window but tended to slack off at the weekend for one family breakfast! Travel is interesting - often now I don’t book the hotel breakfast in advance knowing that if looks worth breaking the fast for then I can! Stay strong!!.

Fortysix · 13/10/2017 12:56

It's five months since I've done breakfast apart from once last week in the US on my first day when it was really 2 pm BST and I hadn't adjusted. It was in a La Quinta inn which is similar to a holiday Inn express and i decided against eggs but to have sultana bran with no milk, an orange and a glass of water. Maybe I went for the least appealing option but I found it sufficiently dull so after that i felt confident enough to skip ... maybe i should have gone for the waffles with maple syrup and the chocolate brownie on the side and it would have been different story...
But i agree that you can always opt in and 'add' breakfast if you want to ...
Anyone got any good news to report? For my trip rather cockily I ordered my first pair of size 10 jeans in about 20 years. However they were far too tight and had to go back and be replaced with a 12 Grin Grin

ownedbySWD · 16/10/2017 21:33

I'm on day seven of 20:4 rather than 16:8, if I can sneak in?

I've done 16:8 in the past, but still manage to overeat a lot of the time so wanted to really retrain myself with a smaller eating window.

I'm feeling really good, actually! I spend a shocking amount of time thinking g about food; what to eat, when to eat it, what to buy, new recipes to try, etc etc. I have a lot more free time. I don't feel weak or tired.

I usually feel fine up until 11am, then I groan about waiting until 4pm to break the fast, but once I get over the mid-day hump I'm ok from 2pm onwards. Lots and lots of herbal teas.

Before I chucked my crappy bathroom scales it looked like I'd already lost 5 lbs or so. That is crazy and I'm not sure if I believe it. I'm debating on getting digital scales. Does anyone have any recommendations?

mrssunshinexxx · 17/10/2017 07:57

Own I have just purchased the salter ones off amazon and they are great! So I was 9.8 yest and this morning 9.1 1/2 what an earth that cannot even be possible?! I barely ate any dinner didn't feel well at all and did nearly 27,000 steps yesterday but can that really affect that much?! I know if I weighed after lunch today it would just be back up near 9.8 again I don't understand it

Fortysix · 17/10/2017 10:25

Ha! Did 24.5 k steps yest and weight still the same. Most change I've ever done is 3 lbs but I'm sure it is possible. Want those scales. Amazing though if it consistent and huge congrats to you.

ownedbySWD · 17/10/2017 11:31

Sounds like salter scales are the way to go! Grin Congratulations on your loss!

Loubilou09 · 25/10/2017 21:57

fortysix can I ask what exercise you do to burn 600-800 cals a session please and how long it takes you? Thank you Smile

Fortysix · 26/10/2017 11:42

Dog walked this morning around hilly park with my friend so fairly leisurely pace 1 hr 45 mins 725 calories. Started at 7,45.
Walked (without dog, on pavements) from car MOT 45 mins 320 calories
Watched TV with both arms above head doing circular motions 53 mins 362 calories (Trying to get rid of flabby bits and slowly it is working but boring and off putting for DH)
Run (not v fast) around hilly park 38 min 347 calories
Hoolahooping (in front TV) 19 mins 120 calories

I just mix and match the above to fit in with what I'm doing at work every day. Try to burn 2600/2700 calories. Not unusual for me to climb the stairs in the house repeatedly to hit target.
Not yet progresses to HIIT or keep fit videos but that will be my reality in a few weeks when the weather gets even wetter and colder. it is now completely dark in the park when I start.

Basically I can do 9000 steps/ hour on my FitBit just wandering around sometimes with company. If i try harder and actively walk faster and make an effort I can do 12000/ hour. But i am bored of doing this and will need to find new activities...

Loubilou09 · 26/10/2017 15:56

Hmmm I answered this earlier, it showed up on my iphone as having been answered but post is not showing...
h
Anyway thank you fortysix for your answer - very interesting to see what others do!

Fortysix · 26/10/2017 18:03

What are you doing Louby... would welcome an easier / quicker solution...

Annoying when posts are lost

Loubilou09 · 27/10/2017 10:02

Fortysix - Not doing as much as you but pretty much the same types of things. Problem is I work from home and can be very busy so yes I am trying to fit in 2 hours of "moving/exercise" a day but still can't seem to burn hundreds and hundreds of calories as a lot of the day I am sat at my desk on conference calls - I don't have the journey to the car/train/office for example - on the days I do go into the office I can easily hit 10,000 steps just doing the basics of getting to and from car/office and moving around whilst I am there! I do 2 hiit type classes a week which burn up to 400 cals but can be 300 - depends how bouncy I am I suppose, then I generally walk the dog for an hour which can be another 300-350 so on those days I get 600-700. Other days I do a dog walk and zumba but the zumba only gives me about 250 calories and interestingly a really hard session with my PT only burns about 250 according to my garmin. I am starting to run a lot more which gives me more calories in less time but only really replaces the dog walk so then I can go some days only doing 350 odd cals. I thought you might hold a "golden secret" to getting 600-800 calories out of a session which I assumed was about an hour but I guess it only comes if you do nearer the 2 hours (hoping I am making sense!). This week I have started adding a 2 hour long dog walk on the days that I have run - that has helped!

Loubilou09 · 27/10/2017 10:04

edited to say a 2nd hour long dog walk not a 2 hour dog walk!!

Fortysix · 27/10/2017 12:06

Loub I get it and we sound fairly similar. I think my fitBit is quite sensitive and probably registers more generously then your garmin. Today I mostly walked/ ran up and down hills in the park alone - short woodland trails really- and in 1 hr 30 burned 825 which for me is as good as it gets. The trouble is if i have 15k steps under my belt by 9.00 am i don't want to sit and do my work straight away... and then i really get hungry at 10 am and want to bring forward my eating window. Today's lunch therefore will be a 2 egg omelette instead of a one egg version!

My over-riding issue at the moment is that I am into baking and am baking a fresh cake - and eating most of it- every two days. My good weight is being maintained but I am doing this huge amount of activity so I can eat cake and not gain any. It's a bit ridiculous. My latest idea is to try to bake things like oat cakes which are slightly less calorific than the raspberry almond tarte. Still managing to avoid bread biscuits and chocolate but my eating window sometimes stretches to 9 pm instead of 8 pm.
I think one hour in the morning and one hour later is the more sensible route but is very time consuming and hard to do around work/ family life. Not everyone has this luxury I know.

beanhunter · 04/12/2017 09:37

Hello. Can I join. Can’t face 5:2 but thinking that 18:6 or similar may work. Day 2 today.

ELR · 04/12/2017 21:37

Thinking of starting this again. Found it relevantly easy and like you bean I just can't face 5:2 did two days last week but was t really 5:2 as I had around 900 calories and just skipped breakfast. Think I'll start tomorrow with 16:8 and also have 2 low calorie days per week too.

dancingqueen345 · 09/12/2017 22:04

I've done my first day today (12-8pm) but I'm really getting cravings for something snacky now so posting here instead! Hope everyone else has had a good day

bingebiscuiteater · 13/12/2017 18:52

This is the first time I am coming across this 16:8 diet. I guess the other name for this is "Intermittent fasting"

littlekellysmum · 13/12/2017 18:57

My DH use to try this as he was trying to lose weight. But whenever he saw my DD eating some choclates and crisps, he gets tempted to eat them. He is really a kid :)

bingebiscuiteater · 17/12/2017 03:18

I doubt if this sort of intermittent fasting would actually result in Fat loss. It will definitely lead to weight loss but unsure if it would be fat loss.

Cherrypi · 19/12/2017 08:07

Tried this for the first time yesterday and lost 5lb overnight! Wasn’t even hungry weird. Doubt it will continue to be this easy.

FoodieToo · 19/12/2017 15:30

What do you mean Bingebiscuit? I am doing it since last Christmas. Over a stone and a half down now.
Are you suggesting none of that is fat?
Of course it is.
