Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

BingeBiscuit: Recommend reading Dr Xand Van Tulleken's book 'How to lose weight well' - it's a tenner very well spent. You absolutely do lose fat.

SarahBeeney · 21/12/2017 10:43

Hi everyone,I've been lurking for a while.
Have done two weeks of 16/8.
Lost 8lb and feel great however a friend bought a bloody box of Celebrations yesterday and I ate a few, within my eating window but still!Have woken up this morning feeling like I've got a hangover.
I'm convinced it's the sugar as I've been pretty good avoiding it,just the odd square of dark choc and milk in my coffee etc.
I will be expecting feeling like this on Boxing Day and the day after

SarahBeeney · 21/12/2017 10:44

By the way how many of you drink tea/coffee with milk when in the fasting zone?

I do and I have still been losing weight. I probably have two or three, two in the morning and one at night. I definitely can't give up my morning one. I use semi skimmed.

Fortysix · 22/12/2017 11:20

Just water here.

My point of reference is Dr Xand and if you are being strict he suggests black tea, black coffee or water or something calorie- free.

Really brilliant about the 8lbs. Sugar is satan. my tip is to avoid before 4.00 pm if humanly possible. it's like an addiction and once you give in you just crave more... Blooming hopeless time of year to be on this mission.

SarahBeeney · 22/12/2017 12:52

Yes it's definitely an addiction and it's bloody everywhere!

caremummy · 30/12/2017 15:40

Hmm I might give this a try
I'm on slimming world, combined with some calorie restriction.
I wanted to give up snacking, but this might be as effective (problems in an evening)
My eating window would probably be 930-530 although with some changing when I'm on shift.
I'm wanting to lose the calorie counting tbh.
Will start Monday

SarahBeeney · 30/12/2017 22:38

Hi caremummy. I did SW to lose my baby weight many years ago. I much prefer fasting,in a way I find it easier to fast than to eat low calorie or restricting myself.

BlueBelle123 · 01/01/2018 09:04

Hi All
I've decided to come out of the food closet as it were and officially follow this diet!

I have previously done 5:2 which works but put weight back on when I came off it and just couldn't face the two days of fasting again, so I tried this for a couple of weeks before Christmas and lost 6lbs! just to go and put it all back on again over Christmas.

Anyway, this is the start and I am determined this time to lose the weight hopefully 2 stone, we shall see how it goes. My weigh day is a Monday so I will check in every Monday and let you know how its going, really looking forward to hearing how others are doing alsoSmile

BlueBelle123 · 01/01/2018 09:05

Oh Happy New Year to you all!!

Blunders · 01/01/2018 14:37

Well, I've just read this entire thread and it's brought me back to Mumsnet after a few years' absence. I'm beginning my 16:8 ride today. I had lunch at 12 and I'll go through till 8.

Although I know that it will be easier if I also cut sugar / white carbs I don't have the cojones for that yet, and I'm starting small. Just the eating window, for now, and trying not to go chocoloco in the 8 hours.

The Dr Fung video someone mentioned above is brilliant, and now I'm thinking of getting his books. Has anyone read them?

Happy New Year, all!

SarahBeeney · 01/01/2018 20:29

Hi Blunders. I think you're right, one step at a time. Stopping breakfast was hard for me at first but now I'm totally used to it and not hungry at all!
I definitely feel less hungry when eating less white carbs. I eat a lots of sweet potato wedges, they're so good.

Blunders · 02/01/2018 09:42

Hi SarahB. Thanks for replying. How long have you been going? Have you noticed lots of good results?

Yes I've been skipping breakfast every now and then for a while so I know I can survive a few hours without getting the screaming abdabs. I'm curious to see how much I can take tbh.

And I started yesterday and lost a WHOLE POUND already!

SarahBeeney · 02/01/2018 23:09

Good work Blunders Smile
I started around December 6th. I've lost about 9lbs. Put one back on over Xmas but lost that quite quickly.
I accidentally ate half my daughters sandwich earlier and feel weirdly bloated!I might try and do a 24 hour fast now and eat once tomorrow if I can.

Blunders · 03/01/2018 20:14

How's the 24 hour fast going SarahB? I quite envy that. I feel weirdly relaxed and awake at the same time, and I've been doing 17:7, just because I suddenly don't feel I need to eat past 6pm!

I think I'll do a 24 one next week, once I've built up to it. I'm really curios to see what happens.

SarahBeeney · 03/01/2018 20:22

I didn't quite manage 24 hours,I had to take my son to a club and thought I'd better eat beforehand in case I felt suddenly ravenous!
I ate at about 4 so fasted for about 21 hours.

I had bolognaise sauce on Courgetti followed by full fat Greek yogurt with fruit and nuts. Feel totally full now. I felt a bit up and down in the day but nothing u couldn't handle.

How is everyone else doing?

SarahBeeney · 03/01/2018 20:25

Blunders I think the great thing about this way of eating is that you can be quite flexible with the fasting. Sometimes cram it into a smaller window/bung in a 24 hour fast or just doing 16/8.

I think you're right though, you need to build up to a longer fast. I tried to do 5:2 a few years ago and didn't cope at all well! You'll know if you can handle a 24hr and if you can't you'll still have had less food than the usual 3 meals a day.

SarahBeeney · 03/01/2018 20:26

I'm reading The Complete Guide to Fasting by Jason Fung and Jimmy Moore at the moment. It's fascinating. I'm not that far into it but it says that Fasting is key to reversing diabetes, not just a keto diet. Worth a read.

ZenNudist · 03/01/2018 20:40

Looking at this but wondered if i can adapt it. Ive never not had brrakfast. I feel really ill if i dont eat first thing. Just sick and faint. Can i have small breakfast say one weetabix then eat at 1 and between 6-9?

Seems like the rest of the principles are sound, especially sugar free.

SarahBeeney · 03/01/2018 20:48

Hi Zen. The idea is that you give your system a rest so if you're eating between 8am and 9pm it's not much of a break. Your 8 hour window can start when ever you like and I'm sure loads of people can't manage without breakfast like yourself. Could manage 8am til 4pm?
I used to eat breakfast religiously and then began to push it later and later. First til about 10am,and then I began to skip it but have an early lunch about 12pm. It is not something I could just start straight away.

BlueBelle123 · 04/01/2018 10:33

I haven't had the best start, there is just too much chocolate lying around at our house!!!!

Yesterday started well, no breakfast healthy lunch then as soon as I came back from work I fell head first in to the chocolates!!!!

Today I am suffering again no breakfast but I have a terrible headache which I think is sugar related and so thoroughly deserved, anyone it generally takes me a couple of days to fully get back into the swing of things!

Hope everyone else has stronger will power that me!

Fortysix · 04/01/2018 16:25

The skipping breakfast thing is difficult for the first week to ten days but by the end of week 2 it becomes almost normal. Your tummy does eventually feel like it shrinks a little.

If you feel really brave go bag yourself a weighted hoola hoop and try to hoola hoop each day even just a couple of minutes. Take a waist measurement for your 'before' Honestly just by strictly sticking to your 16:8 eating window and two minutes of gentle extra exercise every day over normal you will drop a dress size before the month is out. My hoola hooping efforts were laughable at the start with me picking the hoop off the floor every 5 seconds but after a fortnight of skipping breakfast and doing the waist exercise I felt really proud that I was at least doing something to make myself feel better about my saggy tum and over hang. Small steps though.

SarahBeeney · 04/01/2018 18:52

I bought a hula hoop the other day and broke it trying to put the bloody thing together!Ive emailed customer services but not heard back.
The hoop was massive,is this normal for a weighted hoop?!

Fortysix · 04/01/2018 20:21

That's hilarious Sarah mine is probs about a metre in diameter, so fairly huge. mine left me all bruised at the start.
