Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

I admire all of you your motivation to cut out sugar but honestly I couldn't imagine never eating cakes and potatoes or bread again. The food group and s too small. I lost two and a half stone on 5.2. I didn't give up sugar but was very strict. Didn't go over an extra almond. My life wasn't worth living. Managed to keep the two stone off but not the half a stone.
Have just got back from holiday and I feel fat. Am heading 9 stone 11. Am now going to start this 16.8. I don't eat breakfast anyway but I just need to cut out bread for a while and crisps

Fortysix · 17/07/2017 20:02

This is the 16:8 thread and not the No Sugar thread. Confused
At the weekend I baked and partially ate a tarte. I still eat a fair bit of sugar but for me the key thing is not every day. Today is one of those day's where I'm reigning it back in. I'm pretty sure everyone on here is trying to do the same or at least cut back. I've lost 30 lbs in 60 days and recently changed to the maintenance stage. I'm still losing.. but I'm not craving bread and I've cut out snacks. I don't think there is a prescribed way to do 16:8 I think everyone has to tailor it to their own needs and do what works for them and do it as rigorously as suits for their purpose. I don't for one minute think my method suits everyone else but it's about personal goals... I've made a discovery that I'm not in love with pasta and I'm not upset to eat none or less. Eating it previously was habitual. The biggest thing I've got to grips with in the last eight or nine weeks is that it's a lifestyle decision to eat food differently - and in my case more moderately... and I'm feeling so much happier and healthier on the back of it...

Fortysix · 19/07/2017 11:03

So Chipstick how are you getting on sticking to your 8 hr window? If you haven't been eating breakfast it shouldn't be too much of a departure/

Dog just back from vets. DD was grilled on why he had lost 2 kg to see if any underlying problem

Chipstick10 · 19/07/2017 18:50

Thanks for asking fortysix, I have been doing quite brilliantly Grin. Have only eaten cherries 🍒 today as I was at work and a handful of nuts. Grilled fish in the evening although I made a curry from scratch last night but had much smaller portions. It's very easy to fit into any lifestyle I think and I am going to have a couple of days off. I only have just over half a stone to get rid of so hoping I don't stall, it's easier than 5.2 as I feel less inclined to stuff my face

Fortysix · 26/07/2017 11:49

Very quiet on here.
Hope you are all in summer mode now [apart from macnab down under]

Three weeks into the maintenance phase for me and so I am being more relaxed about the amount of food and the amount of exercise. BMI is still going down a little but at a far slower pace. Still keeping to the 16:8 window and trying not to snack however eating two courses at meal times. Haven't read up on this so am just trying to follow my own path... but think the structure of doing virtually all exercise when fasting and not grazing is the way to go. No headaches for nearly 3 months

ELR · 26/07/2017 20:51

Great forty I've suddenly found it hard not to over eat during my window! Probably time of the month related but I've been eating a load of shit which then means im hungry and just can't stop. When I eat hardly any sugar I don't feel hungry at all! But one slip up and it's not something I crave or restrict and im screwed for days!
i ate a reasonable size meal at 4pm wasn't hungry at 6.30 so thought I wouldn't have anything but then just now at 8.30 I was hungry so had pancakes!! Annoyed with myself but I'll live!!

Fortysix · 27/07/2017 11:51

ELR my dog walking friend told me to avoid anything with sugar in it until at least 4.00 pm as that kick started the urges and craving for more... she was very specific to tell me to cut out fruit until later in the day. I actually think she might be on to something as what you say backs that up... However I do eat berries / beetroot at lunch so don't strictly do that myself...

iknowimcoming · 29/07/2017 17:24

Hi all, been mia for a few weeks sorry Blush had some stress, a wedding, two hen nights etc etc and had strayed quite badly back into the evil clutches of sugar BUT stayed the same weight and have learnt from it. Had a stern word with myself and am back on track with a tantalising 1.5lb to lose until I reach a 1 stone total so far, so onwards and downwards. I have realised that, for me, sugar is the issue, it's like a drug, I start off thinking just one dessert/ice cream/chocolate bar won't do me any harm and if I am strong willed and leave it there it's ok, but any more than a one-off and it's literally a slippery slope to bingeing, feeling bad about myself, trying to cheer myself up with more sugar etc etc. You get the idea. Anyway knowledge is power right? So now I know that, I know what to do about it. BTW I'm not trying to preach to others about sugar, that's just my issue. Keep up the good work you guys Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 05/08/2017 20:19

I have been doing the 5:2 for over a year.
I decided since it was the summer holidays to do the 16:8. Being doing it
for a number of weeks but not been really changing what i eat. My feast hours are from 1-9pm but rarely eat anything after 8:30. Decided to cut out most refined sugars and am on day 4 of that. I am hoping between the fast hours and not eating sugary things that i might lose weight. Havent seen much of a change just doing the 16:8 tbh but think its the sugary things that are the killer for me. I just cant seem to have one.. so its all or nothing and its nothing when it comes to sugar for me. I dont weigh myself but let my clothes be my guide!

neveradullmoment99 · 05/08/2017 20:21

When I eat hardly any sugar I don't feel hungry at all!
This is exactly what I am finding!!! I am lacking in appetite ELR

Bestbees · 08/08/2017 08:45

Can i join?

I did 5:2 last year and lost half a stone but have put it all back on. Now post french holiday (aka a week of cheese, bread and wine) i am 10.3 and only 5.4 so chubby! I dabbled back in 5:2 a bit early this year and i just binged.
Plan for me is basically no breakfast, no snacks and sugar avoiding as i find that helps me cut my appetite down. Eating window will be more like 12-7 to fit in with kids and work. Today i ran 3k on a black coffee, had a probiotic then vomitted so need to take those with my meal i think! Lunch will be mozerella, tomato salad followed by melon and greek yog. Dinner is risotto and more fruit n yog. I find two small courses help me feel full and it seems luxurious which helps the whole thing seem lovely!

Fortysix · 09/08/2017 11:55

Here's hoping Iknow that you've got that stone now Grin
Am maintaining my weight reasonably well ... still losing a little but i'm happy here. I'm around the 9st mark and still walking plenty. Eating about 1400 calories but really busy on all fronts so not tempted to change my routine too drastically right now. Had to take headache medication last week which was really annoying after going three months without, but it was definitely stress related (to do with my wee mum's care home).
Hello to best and never. It's good knowing there are others out there - also avoiding sugar!

TinkerStar01 · 09/08/2017 15:53

Hi Everyone,

I have just joined up after a year or so of lurking in the shadows. This thread was my motivation Smile Hope it's OK to just jump in.

I have just started 16:8, in fact today was my first day. Apart from a little bit of a grumbly tummy at about half 11, when someone in the office decided to have an early lunch, I have done ok. The smell of curry made me a little hungry.

I'm doing a feed window of 1pm to 9pm, and also keeping an eye on my calories with my fitness pal.

Have noticed that I haven't felt as sluggish today as I usually do. Have got high hopes for this "diet"!

Bestbees · 10/08/2017 07:38

2lb down so happy with that! Not finding it too bad, and it is simple to follow!

neveradullmoment99 · 11/08/2017 14:15

Well have been doing the 16:8 and have cut out sugary treats and mostly things with refined sugar although its very hard not to buy stuff with sugar added! I havent had any sweets or biscuits or cakes and today is the first day I actually a bit looser in my clothes! I dont weigh myself but i do measure myself and my waist which started off at 31 measured today and I am down to 30 :) Going in the right direction.
Decided my action plan is - do this until Monday [ Back to work for me!]. Monday 5:2 fast day then the day after - normal eating day. Wednesday - Fast day - the day after normal eating day. Thursday-Sunday do the 16:8.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/08/2017 14:16

I dont plan to combine both forever but i had plateaued on the 5:2 and I want to avoid that this time.

Velocity · 14/08/2017 07:22

Back from an active but lots of fast carbs and cheese/sausage holiday (with many snacks in the side). No chance of maintaining the 16:8 while away but got back yesterday and now easing my way back in! Put on 1.5kg but I'm hoping that at least some of that is muscle. How has everyone else been doing?

MsHarry · 21/08/2017 08:28

Hi all, I was a regular on here a few months back. Got to 9st 4 from 10st 2 at 5FT 5. The motivation was for size 10s to fit comfortably and to feel good on my holiday in the sun. Went on holiday last week at 9st 5, felt more confident etc so all good. I didn't 16:8 as DDs with us and they don't know I don't eat breakfast, but didn't snack at all. Was so hot my appetite was suppressed and ate lots of melon, salads etc but did drink EVERY night and sat around lots. Did swim 20 lengths of a small pool every day though. Felt a bit bloated on return as I had eaten more bread than I normally do but just got on scales and pleasantly surprised that only put on 2 lbs. So, back on skipping breakfast, eating lunch at 12 and dinner at 6 and daily dog walks and hopefully get that back down. Good luck everyone else, this is such an easy way to eat that becomes a lifestyle that's easy to maintain.

Losingthewill8 · 21/08/2017 11:19

Hi, can you only drink water and black tea and coffee without sweeteners during the 16 hour part? Or are you allowed bo rail type drinks/miso soup?

MsHarry · 21/08/2017 11:39

I drink tea and coffee with skimmed milk. I don't take sugar anyway and don't take a lot of milk.

Fortysix · 21/08/2017 12:07

Losing Strictly speaking I don't think you are supposed to take Miso Soup even if it has less than 100 calories. I follow Dr Xand Van Tulleken from the Channel 4 series How to Lose Weight Well and he says black coffee, green tea, water or chewing gum but others might come up with something different.
I always drink Lidl's Saskia sparkling water in the green bottle as it has more 'bite' than other sparkling water ... I've tried loads of others... but for me it's the best. Never,Velocity, Harry you all sound like it's going well. These holidays get in the way!
I'm learning to run the route I normally walk. Blush Bubbling under/ around 9 st still. Keeping to my window but snacking and grazing are issues still.

Velocity · 21/08/2017 21:19

Losing - I also just go black tea, black coffee, plain water during the fasting hours. I'm not a black tea fan but I'm getting used to it.

littlemissM92 · 22/08/2017 10:40

Hi everyone so good to see people doing so well still I've been very quiet but have still been doing 16:8 and have gone down from 9st 12 to 9st 4 4/5 lbs to go then maintain is the plan

Losingthewill8 · 22/08/2017 11:38
