16:8 diet

Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Hi Shutty that's the basic principle but lots of us on here are mixing 16:8 with other 'diets' Some eat 3 meals in that window, I only eat lunch and dinner so I'm doing nearer 18:6 some days. I started off doing The No S diet though and mixed with IF when my weight loss stalled. www.nosdiet.com
Some graze in that window, I don't eat anything between my meals, only drinks. Some are low carbing too or calorie counting too. Check out your TDEE(see link) to see how much you need to eat to maintain your weight, 500 cals less than this a day should see 1lb off a week, maybe more depending on activity. Good luck!

Right, I'm on it (again)

I was half on it for the weekend but as usual the hours I was eating, I was eating crap (but I made chocolate biscuit cake, how could I not eat it?!)

Today I fasted til 2pm (from 9pm night before) and all I've had was my lunch which was a very small portion of leftover chicken & chorizo pasta and a hard boiled egg (random!) Dinner tonight will be lasagne and salad. No other treats (and I drank all the wine!)

Onwards & downwards everyone...

littlemissM92 · 03/07/2017 16:08

Down anther lb and a half to 9.5 x

macnab · 05/07/2017 13:55

That's great littlemiss Smile

I still haven't got round to buying bathroom scales so still none the wiser on what I weigh and if I've lost anything! But I must have lost some weight because I'm wearing trousers that were too too tight for a long time, so I'm happy with that for now. Still trying to up my water intake, that's a work in progress but am definitely trying.

theresamustgo · 05/07/2017 22:36

I really struggle to drink enough water. Don't know why. Anyhow, since starting 4 or 5 weeks ago, I have lost around 8lb. So that is going the right way, if not quickly. I have not been too strict on it. Just glad to have just slipped into the stone below...11.13 now. Still a way to go, but well I am motivated. And I will not will not will not hit the horrors of 12 again!

theresamustgo · 05/07/2017 22:41

Oh whoops, has been 7 weeks, so around a lb a week. Still OK. Will try to up my game a bit though. People - stop having celebrations at work and feeding me cake and alcohol!!

macnab · 05/07/2017 22:55

That's great theres apparently slower but consistent weight loss is the best, it stays off then. 8lbs is a lot to lose so well done!

I keep one of those sports-cap water bottles on my desk (500mls) and refill a few times a day. For some reason I can drink far more from that than I can from a glass Confused I think I just need to make it a real habit.

Fortysix · 07/07/2017 09:23

Home from hols. Sad
Kept to the 16:8 pretty easily and kept my step activity going but added daily cake and alcohol a plenty. Weighed in today and am exactly the same weight as on day I left.. which is great but I feel loads more sluggish and not nearly as healthy.
I think the alcohol (full bottle vinho verde Wednesday night) has wiped me out a bit so I am really cross with myself for being so greedy.
But no headache. Just going to drink loads of water over the weekend and keep a low profile until I feel a bit more chipper.
Good to hear everyone else is making progress.

theresamustgo · 07/07/2017 10:54

see cake and alcohol - put here by the devil to scupper us! Good feeling though to have been away, not feel deprived and come back without any extra wobbles!

Fortysix · 08/07/2017 14:31

To update on yesterday I had to go back to bed for an hour in the morning and then another two hours at 4.00 pm as I felt so rubbish and couldn't deal with work phone calls. Across the day i chalked up less than 4000 steps on my Fitbit.
Slept through all night despite the extra sleep...
Today getting dressed I thought I looked a bit trimmer so jumped on the scales. Overnight I had lost 3 lbs! BMI down from 22.33 to 21.89.

Wink Shock That was worth the dreadful day.

Giddyaunt18 · 08/07/2017 21:42

That's fantastic fortysix , every cloud eh? So, you found 16:8 ok on hol? Did you eat healthily? (apart from holiday essential that are cake and wine) I'm hoping to do the same in August when I'm on holiday. I am so used to no breakfast now, it doesn't feel like a diet. still can't shift last pound but I'm ok with that as that was my lowest weight. Happy to stay between 9st 4 and 9st 7 and I'm 9st 5. I've probably relaxed a bit on portion size. Might try to be super strict this week just for the satisfaction of getting that lb off.

Fortysix · 08/07/2017 22:34

Giddy I didn't set out to lose on holiday, just tried not put on more than 4-5 lbs and lose momentum. But 16:8 was fine - just as long as we had lunch before 2 pm. On one day it wasn't possible as we were going around a palace knee deep with other tourists in 35* heat so I grabbed two bags of crisps at the gift shop else wise i would have keeled over in a heap. One day we went to a top rated all-you-can -eat Sushi restaurant for lunch (10 euros) and I must easily have scoffed 20 pieces but in my head told myself i would eat less at night -but didn't- . Mostly it was easy to eat very healthily. Hardest thing was not snacking / grazing of a warm evening. Each day i deliberately bought myself a different cake / pastry and had a little bit of local cheese with my wine and just stuck to those as my evening treats rather than go crazy.

We're now the same weight. Cake Was 8.13 just before fell pregnant with DC2 (17) so I'm back into territory i haven't seen in a very long time.

Fortysix · 08/07/2017 22:41

Oh and I had a McDonalds cheeseburger at Lisbon airport ... now maybe that was why i was so ill on Thursday... Grin

ELR · 10/07/2017 20:51

Hi all
Not posted for over a week. Went on holiday don't think I gained but can't be sure. Then when I came home last Monday evening I had two days of throwing up with migraine. Didn't stick to 16:8 on holiday as we were eating so late but did it Thursday & Friday last week despite the throwing up Tuesday & Wednesday. The weekend was a bit of a wash out due to dinner with friends. I do d do 16:8 yesterday but ate so much I'm not counting it. Was all set to start again today but went to a friends this morning and she was so excited she'd got me some special gluten free cookies I didn't have the heart to not eat one at 9:45 although finished dinner at 5:30 last night so in theory I'd done my 16 hours. Then I thought ok I'll just eat dinner tonight at 5:30 but then DH wanted to eat with me and he's not hone till 7:30 so I just thought crap, I'll start again tomorrow!!
Sorry for massive rant!! Anyway I'm going to get weighed on Friday and just hope I've lost a little!
Well done to everyone else!

Giddyaunt18 · 11/07/2017 18:02

Hi all, the extra strictness paid off, plus a few extra workouts. Reached 9st 4 today. A quick recap:
April- 10st 2
today- 9st 4
Did the No S diet for a few weeks then combined that with no breakfast so 17:7 ish since end of May/early June.
I feel great, have loads of energy, don't miss brekkie at all! Hang in there, it feels great to reach the end but I am carrying on with this but will allow more cals or perhaps relax more at weekends. Good luck!

Fortysix · 12/07/2017 11:00

ELR that's tough re headaches. No fun at all. Not had one since early May after probs 25 years of regular meds. Genuinely think cutting out sugary snacks/ white flour and significantly upping exercise and fluids is the way to go. [ Have tried acupuncture, chiro, beta blockers, the pill, hormone tablets and go to a headaches clinic.] They really throw your week into chaos and disrupt all aspects so don't be hard on yourself. Good for you trying to battle through.
Giddy well done. You will be beach body ready for your hols.

I've lost another lb. So two stones in 8 weeks but other projects mean i can't afford time to do the two hours of extra exercise each day over normal. Blush . Going to stick with 16:8 but will look through exercise threads to find how I can burn those calories more efficiently without endless marching and checking my Fitbit.

GreenVelvetandCajmere · 13/07/2017 17:55

Hello, can I join in? Been lurking for a while Smile

Been doing 16:8 for the last five weeks and have lost 11lbs so far. First week I ate normally, then spent a couple of weeks reducing carbs. Now I'm sticking to 1200 cals a day, lower carb. Finding it really easy, as I'm not hungry/obsessing about food.

theresamustgo · 13/07/2017 22:14

Good going green velvet.
I am really trying to reduce carbs. How far do you have to go?

GreenVelvetandCajmere · 14/07/2017 05:50

Thank you There. I cut out any processed carbs first, then started tracking them to hit roughly 50g of carbs a day, with a focus on freshness. So I eat root vegetables and new potatoes rather than grains for carbs. No refined sugar though and fruit is an occasional treat rather than a staple. If I go lower than 45-50g carbs my sleep is affected.

theresamustgo · 14/07/2017 14:10

thanks for the detail. I find it hard to measure and keep track of stuff. Do you need to lose a lot of weight?

GreenVelvetandCajmere · 14/07/2017 15:16

Sorry, there thought you meant "How far do you have to go with cutting carbs?"

HLBug · 14/07/2017 19:47

I'm just popping in to say "hello!" and to placemark in the hope of picking up some tips and happy success stories. I'm on the main 5:2 thread but have started 16:8 on my Non Fast Days to try and help shift some stubborn baby weight. Hope you're all well and have had a nice Friday Smile

Fortysix · 17/07/2017 13:44

Previously I mentioned our dog has been doing 16:8 all his life, two meals a day just drinks water in between. Weighed him today as he's got his annual vet check up this week and he is 2 kgs down on normal Grin that's because he's been walking double in the park for the last eight or nine weeks.

Everyone seems to be making a big effort and doing really well. Anyone into berries? Check out the premium Driscoll's raspberries at Lidls - amazing...

Chipstick10 · 17/07/2017 15:57

Surely if you give up sugar there is nothing to eat. Ketchup? Fruit? Dark chocolate?

Fortysix · 17/07/2017 17:42

Chipstick Today Lunch= bowl of home made clear chicken soup from last night's left over roast chicken, 3 x slices parma ham and a pickled beetroot, and handful raspberries. Dinner soonish = Large sirloin steak with lots of garlicky green beans, purple sprouting broccoli, asparagus, huge bowl of raspberries. I will still have scope to eat something in the first 15 mins of Love island - likely more raspberries. Everything except chicken bought at Lidl. Pretty easy & quick.

After a few weeks you fall into a routine and don't crave sugar as much as you think ...
