Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Giddy - I am skipping breakfast, I usually break the fast at about 1pm.

The thing is, I've pretty much always skipped breakfast anyway, though I did eat it occasionally at the weekend.

Giddyaunt18 · 18/06/2017 09:04

Then I can imagine how frustrated you are Dowager and if you've been on 5:2 I suppose you've worked out your TDEE and BMR? Tried a food diary?

Riversleep · 18/06/2017 09:45

Can I ask what tdee is? I think I'll do that. It will be much easier during the week as I start at 8 and have a break at 11 so it's quite structured. I can't eat in between. I normally make a packed lunch salad for lunch too so it's just making sure I don't eat junk during the eating window I need to watch and having enough water which I'm rubbish at!

Giddyaunt18 · 18/06/2017 11:24

thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-calories-on-a-non-fast-day/

Here you go river . I actually think that the fact that 2000 cals per day is banded about as required calories for a woman is part of the problem. I need way less.

ELR · 19/06/2017 10:52

Morning all, back on track today hopefully with 10am-6pm. Even though last night I had a light snack at 7:45 I just couldn't face waiting until 11:45 to eat. 10-6 works well for me and also still having 3 meals works better too, although one is lighter almost snack like.
How's everyone else doing?

macnab · 19/06/2017 11:20

Hi everyone, back on track for me today as well!! Although I've been sticking (easily still) to the times, I ate my body weight in ice cream over the weekend so that's definitely negated any good that skipping breakkie did Grin I don't even really regret it tbh, the weather was fab and I've had a really sore throat so the ice cream was almost medicinal!

Nothing for me so far today, have brought a lovely salad lunch to work with me which I plan on eating at 2pm. Green tea and water until then, but I'm really not hungry (yet) As with some others, its the snacking that gets me but from today I'm feeling back on track so don't intend on eating any ice cream or anything else.

Keep up the good work work everyone!

iknowimcoming · 19/06/2017 12:07

Morning - all good here too, I randomly lost 3lb last week although I honestly don't know how/why - haven't been doing anything differently, and had wine and cider (not at the same time -hic!) not complaining though Smile

Riversleep · 19/06/2017 12:17

Hi Thanks for the tdee thing. Very useful. I've had nothing until 11. I was starving but had water and liquorice tea and it subsided. Then I had 2 small egg muffins (not McDonald's, more like homemade mini fritattas Grin) and I'll have my ham salad for lunch. I had Ice cream yesterday too but we were coming home from a long day at the beach and it was fab!

Fortysix · 19/06/2017 13:41

As soon as it was 1 pm wolfed down my lunch... Can't lie. Nearly ate DD's as well.
Popped on here to see how everyone is doing and lots happening - good news @Iknow and @Giddy
@Dowager that's annoying but at least you haven't added. Your reward will come soon I'm sure and all credit for sticking it out. I hated writing down a food diary as I was convinced I knew what i was eating but eventually when I disciplined myself to do it, it did help and it kick started me... I'm actively trying to switch to fruit and veg with more fibre - simply looking for substitutes. So bought mange tout instead of petit pois etc. Can't say yet if it was a good idea,
@River I think i read somewhere that doing fast knitting registered on someone's Fitbit Grin
And @macnab and @River I'm going to cut myself part of a Haagen daz salted caramel ice cream tonight @ELR Our holidays are coming...

Giddyaunt18 · 20/06/2017 17:34

It's a whole lot easier not to eat in this heat! Drinking so much water though.

iknowimcoming · 20/06/2017 20:51

Agree giddy! Family had pasta bake and I was having a salad but cba to make it so had some water instead- still not really hungry .....

TheDowagerCuntess · 20/06/2017 21:06

Finally chalking up a little bit of a loss - not much, but I'll take it!

Happy summer solstice eve all - meanwhile it is winter solstice here, I am dreaming of nice light salads for dinner!

Giddyaunt18 · 20/06/2017 21:40

Yes well done Dowager(love the name but can't bring myself to type THAT word!) Catholic upbringing still clings on to me!

Haven't eaten much at all today, very salad based. But just had a latte sachet and 2 chocolate biscuits. Totally unlike me, I don't do biscuits. Guess what time of the month it is?Wink

Fortysix · 21/06/2017 09:50

Dowager which continent are you in?

Week 5 weight is down 4 lbs. Lost 1 lb each on Day 1 & 2 stayed same for Days 3, 4, 5 & 6 and then lost 2 lb today. Phew.

iknowimcoming · 21/06/2017 10:36

Yay - well done fortysix Grin

iknowimcoming · 21/06/2017 10:36

And we'll done dowager! Grin

macnab · 21/06/2017 10:42

Well done Dowager and Fortysix !

I think I need to invest in scales, I have no idea how much I weigh and if I'm losing anything. I think I also need to invest in a muzzle Hmm I just find it so so hard to stop eating once I've started. I am managing ok with the fasting part, never thought I'd be ok without breakfast but its fine. Just that when I do start eating I'm so hungry I can't stop! Yesterday I got home from work and had a slice of toast (doesn't help that I've got hungry kids looking for snacks too) then I had my dinner and I was still hungry! (heat clearly isn't affecting my appetite) I'm not drinking enough water though, maybe that's what's wrong? I'll head off now and fill my water bottle (not great at drinking lots)
I just need a bit of a kick I think, but reading about other peoples' success with it does help

Fortysix · 21/06/2017 21:44

macnab Muzzle Grin We use the Wii Fit to weigh as it plots a progress graph but always mute the sound
Had beef and bamboo curry tonight. Tinned bamboo shoots have few calories and loads of fibre so going to use them more frequently. Had a real notion for a dessert so I ate a pickled beetroot instead Hmm

TheDowagerCuntess · 22/06/2017 01:47

Thanks for the encouragement, all! Flowers

I am down a KG after starting this two weeks ago, and down to a new low after stagnating completely for more than two months on 5:2. So am pretty happy.

Forty - I'm down in NZ - middle of winter!

P.S. I am catching up with friends this eve for a couple of drinks. I imagine we'll finish up around 10pm, so am putting off lunch until 2pm, and will need to do the same again tomorrow, right? I won't be eating after dinner at about 6:30, but will have a couple of glasses of wine.

toffeeboffin · 22/06/2017 02:25

I've a good mind to try this actually. We always eat dinner early at around 5.30pm so I could have my window from 10am - 6pm.

I'd have to have a coffee upon waking though!

You're all doing so well GrinFlowers

ELR · 22/06/2017 12:31

Hi all, seems like everyone is doing ok. I'm entering the last week of my cycle which tends to be the eat anything and everything week! So I'm trying not to snack it's going ok not as bad as usual and I'm sticking to my eating window quite well. Don't think I've lost anymore weight but I feel quite good so happy with that. I seem to have a bit of an upset stomach most mornings not terrible does anyone else have this?

macnab · 22/06/2017 13:00

Hi toffee - sounds like you could easily incorporate this into your daily life, so definitely give it a go. You can have coffee in the mornings, I think I read that anything over 50 cals takes your body out of the 'fasting' state, so a coffee either black or with a little light milk would be fine better be as I have one every day

ELR I don't ever feel queasy in the mornings, would it be dehydration? Do you have a tea/coffee or water first thing?

I've tried to up my water intake, easier in this warm weather (although I'm in a cool office all day) and it does seem to be keeping the hunger pangs at bay.

Getting my hair cut at the weekend so I'll definitely drop a pound or two Grin

ELR · 22/06/2017 13:36

mcnab it's not a queasy feeling more like I'm going to get diarrhoea but I don't actually get it.

Fortysix · 22/06/2017 14:08

ER Not quite the same here but along similar lines. I have definitely tried this week to add fibre and it appears to help. [I've ditched eating sweet corn though.]

I am also actively drinking more as i had no idea until this week that adding water improves weight loss. I just thought it always made me heavier when I hit the scales... very high temperatures passed us by here.

Dowager - I think i would struggle to be as active and disciplined in the height of winter so your kg is worth more than a summer one i reckon

toffeeboffin · 22/06/2017 17:05

Thanks macnab, good to know coffee is allowed!

I do find I'm more hungry in the morning, at night it's not too bad as I'm in bed by 9pm anyway, exhausted due to the kids terrorising me during the night
