The thread was full so I've started a new one! Hope everyone will find their way here. Just wanted to say that we have bought tickets to come and watch When I grow Up in Kingston in July. Love Kingston and the Rose Theatre and we're just keen to come and support! Looking forward to seeing some of your talented DC on stage and playing in the band.

My son isn't able to do it as he is MDing a show in his uni town that week. Last year it clashed with his uni christmas concert too.

allhailthebrain · 29/09/2023 20:39

@Biscuitsneeded I didn't say I didn't enjoy it - but given the similarity as I understand it (my kid was told the christmas songs were basically the same each year), we are skipping it this year - largely because it clashes with the end of year concert we need to be at up here. I reckon it cost us upwards of £500 as a family last year. Very different to those who can just go on the day. By necessity we needed trains both ways and hotels for both the rehearsal and the concert. Plus the tickets! Easily the amount above +

But it was lovely 😍Would definitely recommend doing it. Last year's had no excerpts - but the year before they had planned them, and a special guest - however that concert was a victim of christmas covid sadly! I'm not sure why last year's didn't have those things.

NYMT shows released today- into the woods, our house and catastrophe bay

wonderfullife123 · 26/10/2023 18:42

I saw that - @Mcmumager, very exciting! My DDs are planning on trying out for NYMT this year. Into the Woods and Our House seem like great choices -was Catastrophe Bay the workshop last year?

Mcmumager · 26/10/2023 18:46

It was the workshop. I’ve no idea what type of cast it requires or anything about it. Maybe someone on here was involved and can fill us in.

My ds did our house with school and his theatre group pre covid. Great show for group of teens and young adults. Bit impossible to stop singing the songs lol- although I admit I have seen madness live so might be biased 😂.

Only ever seen into the woods film but again a good one I think for a large cast.

wonderfullife123 · 26/10/2023 19:23

Yes @Mcmumager one of my DDs did Our house with a youth theatre and it was great. The choreography and music was fab and so energetic. Also they have done Into the Woods at school, and again loved it though I somehow think of it as a smaller cast as no traditional ensemble. I didn't know the show before.

Biscuitsneeded · 26/10/2023 23:39

Is it time to start a 2024 thread, do you think?!

@Biscuitsneeded Sure is! Your ds is on a course that lets him take part isn’t he?

Biscuitsneeded · 26/10/2023 23:54

@Mcmumager yes he is. Will have to see what he says when I see him! Can yours audition again next year?
I'll let one of you lot start a new thread - time for fresh blood!

Oh but you do if so well @Biscuitsneeded 😍

Ds is on his drama school auditions this year but will give it a go im sure. Any news on creatives or dates?

Comefromaway · 27/10/2023 00:03

My son had pretty much decided not to audition next year. If an absolute bucket list show had come up he’d have maybe considered it but he’s at the point now where he needs to earn money in the Easter & summer holidays, not spend it.

NYMT has been fantastic for him, he’s been on some very different shows that have helped in his development but it’s time to move on.

Mcmumager · 27/10/2023 00:14

End of an era @Comefromaway but he has done so much- I remember your message with how busy he was this summer! Wishing him every success with his future . X

minimits · 27/10/2023 07:36

Just popping on to wish everyone auditioning this year the best of luck! DS is unable to audition this year and will terrifyingly be looking for work-and so the worry continues!

wonderfullife123 · 27/10/2023 08:48

Good luck to your DSs@minimits and @Comefromaway for their next chapters!

minimits · 27/10/2023 09:22

Thanks @wonderfullife123 he is going ti miss his NYMT crew big time!

Comefromaway · 27/10/2023 09:59

Thank-you both. And good look to minimits ds too.

Comefromaway · 27/10/2023 10:02

Ds has been lucky enough to have ticked most of the NYT boxes (for a musician)

AMD & keyboard player on two concerts
Playing on a big, well known show
Involved as AMD and player on a new show that was still being written as rehearsals had started.

Comefromaway · 27/10/2023 10:03

NYMT even

Biscuitsneeded · 27/10/2023 14:15

@Comefromaway and @minimits Sad to see your DS's moving on, but wishing them both all the broken legs in the world for their future no doubt illustrious careers. We'll be keeping an eye on what they do!
I don't think my DS knows what his plans are for next year yet. He was in a production of Our House a couple of years ago, and had a great time playing Lewis. It's an ideal choice for NYMT as it needs a big teenage cast and I'm guessing it will be the show where many strong dancers will naturally be placed. It's such a fun show to do. The other two look very promising too, perhaps more for actor-singers and even an actor-muso or two? The announcement also mentioned things like platform concerts and other opportunities, which sound interesting. A few years ago NYMT used to do a platform concert in the studio at the Other Place for some of its older members to have an opportunity to perform and maybe invite agents. It was always a lovely evening bursting with talent. I hope they revive that - not necessarily at TOP if that is no longer an option, but there are other potentially great venues.
@Mcmumager Go on then, I'll start a 2024 thread. It's always great to have a thread for mutual support and asking and answering Qs. I don't want to come across like a self-appointed unofficial voice of NYMT, is all! Granted I've been around for ever, but there are many other experienced parents and I don't want to be annoying or sound like I think I know everything!! Please everyone come and say hello on the new thread - I'll try and invite as many as possible.

@wonderfullife123 Will your DDs try for both NYMT and BYMT this time?

minimits · 27/10/2023 14:26

@Biscuitsneeded we’d be lost without all your amazing advice and experience! Concerts sound interesting-looks like a great year for NYMT!

Triflefan · 31/10/2023 10:24

Biscuitsneeded · 21/09/2023 18:57

Just popping back on to ask @nearlyhomealone and also @Triflefan whether you saw the Holocaust Educational Trust's twitter yesterday? The video of our boys performing for them with NYMT is there.

So sorry I missed this, not been on for ages!
It looked like a really moving event.
