New Thread NYMT/BYMT 2023!

The thread was full so I've started a new one! Hope everyone will find their way here. Just wanted to say that we have bought tickets to come and watch When I grow Up in Kingston in July. Love Kingston and the Rose Theatre and we're just keen to come and support! Looking forward to seeing some of your talented DC on stage and playing in the band.

Oh that’s so lovely of him! That’s made my day too! I know, a recording would have been amazing. It’s been a brilliant first experience for us.

@Nopetynopenooe tell him to go for it, there's nothing to lose, and if nothing else a fun day to gain from the audition workshop!

@minimits your DS was absolutely a star and mine was extremely happy to share a cast with him! Hope they cross paths again!

Hi everyone, finally catching up with this thread. My ds is in the Armchair orchestra (viola). He was a bit worried about how it went last night as he said there were a few missed cues and the orchestra were very stressed. He has been having an absolute blast though and said they've really gelled. What I loved is that when he got to Leicester station on Monday, he met up with some of the band members and they all walked to the theatre together 🤗. We're going to see the final show on Saturday. Hope tonight's show goes a bit more smoothly.

My ds said it was stressful but good. Tech finished very late. There were a few moments that could have gone awry but they pulled it back

Morning! My son is trombone in the band. I came to see it last night and coming back on Saturday. They have worked so hard! I saw DS briefly afterwards and he was very chilled but he's always like that!

Shame they hadn't had time to record the music for the bows so they didn't come on stage at the end. Hopefully they will do that today . I see they're rehearsing this afternoon too. Very full-on but fun too, I think.

*Wottawottawotta Ah that's lovely to hear. I do worry that as ds is a violist that I won't ever be able to hear him. He was down for KMK but then the orchestrator saw his audition tape and specifically requested ds for Armchair which is lovely.

Apparently the string writing in KMK was more orchestral in style, longer notesand doubled by the keyboard.

The string writing in Armchair is string quartet, much more exposed and requiring solo players

He must be in great demand as a viola player of that quality!

I watched last night and was unaware of any glitches so well done all of them! The orchestra were phenomenal; I was sad they didn’t come on at the end. They deserved every bit of applause. It was a tricky score and they mastered it beautifully, musicians and cast alike. Becket especially was stunning - such talent 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Couple of very nice reviews of Armchair this morning. I also watched the show last night and I think it's one of the most ambitious NYMT have ever attempted. I actually don't think adults could have pulled off what the young people (both band and onstage) did - it's testament to their huge talents and spongelike brains that they did. Anyone coming to watch, bring tissues!

@Comefromaway I heard some of it if Jordan Li Smith's instagram. It sounded incredible. Not sure if the bit I heard was the start of it but I did hear some amazing keys 🤗

A massive well done to Team Armchair. The show is so complex musically and the amount of time some of the youngsters were on stage. There were some real stars of the future there.

the band did an incredible job too.

onto Team Merrily now. And has the new musical workshop happened?
