Weekend off for us, ready for our next L1 this weekend

Well done to everyone and especially @itsgettingweird’s DS!

My two just had a couple of races this weekend, good swims for them both and youngest got his 8th regional time, which includes 2 he didn’t qualify for counties in.

Wow @Eccle80 - he got the regional time but didn't get it for counties? That's good work!!

@Glittertwins yes, but not quite as impressive as it sounds! I’ve said before about the lack of his age group at counties, and this was one of the events I think they definitely got the time wrong, only 2 boys qualified for counties and the regional time is a fraction slower than the county time was. He did make a substantial improvement to get it though, and it was one I thought was a long shot for regionals.

Don't take that away from him!!!!!!

When are everyone's regionals? Ours are BH weekend end of April and we stay up in a hotel for 2 nights. Ds only has 1 race per day (his choice!) so hopefully should be a chilled weekend away!

Yes, the Youth bit of Regionals for us are down in Plymouth over that first May Bank Holiday. We've booked an Airbnb cottage (so even if our swimming is a bit rubbish we can go for some nice country walks near the sea).

It sounds as if there was some fab para swimming going on this weekend -well done!

Our regionals is second to last weekend in.April and weekend after the May Bank Holiday weekend. Luckily this year its a 5 minute walk from our house so we can go home and rest between heats and finals (if he gets to any finals that is) rather than hanging out in a car park like last year.

Yes that’s our club! Although we don’t have any away meets planned for Easter so it won’t be our squad visiting you

We've got regionals spread over 3 weekends because of the distance events. Two lots of hotel stays - can't really swim a 1500m well after being stuck in a car for 2 hours or so either. Think we're taking it in turns as to who does what.

@itsgettingweird thank you! He is really, he’s small compared to most of the boys in his age group, and only has 4 hours of training a week available to him so I don’t know how he does it!

Our regionals are the two bank holiday weekends, we’re lucky that it’s not too far so no need for hotels etc, though not quite as convenient as @Hellocatshome’s 5 min walk!

Well all just have to meet in summer nationals!

Our regionals are split too. They've also split the age and youth for boys and girls.

So age are boys up to 15 years and girls to 14. And youth is boys 16+ and girls 15+.

They've even admitted that boys in the 18+ age group won't qualify due to numbers even though some may actually make nationals.

Seems odd that moving 15yo boys to age makes less room for older boys 🧐 we also have all the relays for all age groups at the youth weekend. And the youth is the Friday evening and BH weekend and the age is 2 weekends either side.

We don't have regional relays but our county relays are this weekend, its going to be a bit sad for DS as there has always been 4 of them the same age all similar ability and great friends and have always done relays together. One of them has had to leave swimming due to ill health and I think relays day will bring it home to DS how much he is missing him.

My club wants to buy some new meet software for our summer club champs.

Would you (preferably lots of you) mind asking your competition secretary what they use (I am guessing most will be Hytek Meet Manager but I am pretty clueless).

I don't think we've run a club champs for 4 or 5 years and I think we must have just used a spreadsheet in the past.

Yes we use hyteck.

As a club we use TU as a sports system.

Hytek even.

My phone wants to call it anything other than that 🤣

I’ve used Meet Manager (in Scotland) for many years - everyone uses it, together with Team Manager. Straightforward to use, once you have the meet set up as you want it, you can reuse that set up year after year.

I believe we use Sports Systems along with quite a few other clubs locally

Ours uses Hytek

They have finally updated the rankings to say sex not gender. I have been going on about this for ages - especially around the transgender debate and what category people compete in.
