So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

Glad they all had a great time.
Did they give any indication on when they’d hear back?

Lonecatwithkitten · 05/02/2022 21:29

I thought I would pop back. One of the things when we first looked at NYMT and BYMT that I wondered was what would DD gain from it?
As others have said she has made amazing friends in both productions. Has it benefited her in her career path absolutely. 4 of them in her production were 17 approaching drama school auditions, i they now all hold offers and several of them have more than one offer. Was worth having in your personal statement 100%. Is it respected in the industry - absolutely - the productions as classed as professional.
Would I recommend it, absolutely at 15 it was the first time DD swam outside her little pond and she thrived on working with people who all had the same passion.

Alakazam8 · 05/02/2022 21:34

@Mcmumager
Don’t think it will be too long because recalls are 19th and 20th! Doesn’t seem too bad this year!

Biscuitsneeded · 05/02/2022 21:34

@Lonecatwithkitten that is great to hear! Am I reading it right that your DD has offers for professional training post 18? Well done to her!

allhailthebrain · 05/02/2022 21:58
@minimits glad he got on well. They remembered dd from last year and were lovely. She got so much from today I’m not really worried if there’s nothing for her this year. She’s still young and will keep trying but they did make it sound they needed quite a lot!
Remembered from production or from audition? I do find they're really good at remembering people, which is lovely. When mine went to audition in person for the first time, he was remembered from a course he'd done months earlier.
Audition done, and thinks it went well so back in the waiting room.

dancingclassicist · 05/02/2022 22:54

Hi all,
Please could someone tell me what was involved in the acting and dance auditions for NYMT. Last year DC found the Hunchback statues dance quite challenging!

Biscuitsneeded · 05/02/2022 23:05

For acting they did some warm up games and then read some script. For dance, DS had one dance that they were taught and had to perform, and he said it was quite challenging but not impossible, and one bit where they had to create their own moves to music. But it may depend on the creatives. I don't think they expect perfection or would rule you out just because you get some steps wrong - it will be all about showing you can move and be creative and make people want to watch you.

Alakazam8 · 06/02/2022 00:51

@minimits from audition…She didn’t get through last year though..

allhailthebrain · 06/02/2022 02:08

@Alakazam8 that's really nice - a personal touch that they remember her, and not just those who went through, but those who gave it their all but it wasn't their year. Hope this time it is :)

@dancingclassicist I didn't ask details today but can do - I know the dance they did for auditions last year wasn't the same in every audition as mine had to learn it for his recall, he'd had a different choreographer in his first round, not the one for the show he was recalled for. When it actually came to the show, that dance had been dropped entirely and something totally different came in with a really different context.

They don't need to be the world's best dancer, but really concentrate on whether they're asking you to get something across in the movements acting wise - I know that was the case last year. I've heard from another auditionee that for Chess they're planning on involving ballet dancers, so I guess they may look for strengths there in callbacks for that show.

@Lonecatwithkitten fantastic news, well done to your daughter! Do you think NYMT and BYMT are regarded the same within the industry? In my head NYMT was seen as more prestigious but I'm not sure if that's changed over time. And it may be a misconception just because I heard of them first and only came across BYMT on here!

Lonecatwithkitten · 06/02/2022 07:26

@Biscuitsneeded she is not alone the cast of Peter Pan have been very successful.
@allhailthebrain I think BYMT has equal respect after all it's home is Mountview. BYMT has two arms the productions which are entry by audition and are assessed by Trinitu as Grade 8. The camps which require no audition, but generate enthusiasm for musical theatre.

Biscuitsneeded · 06/02/2022 07:51

@Lonecatwithkitten that's brilliant. Congratulations to them all.

Mcmumager · 06/02/2022 09:57

@Lonecatwithkitten

Congratulations to your daughterStar

The cast of Peter Pan deserve all the success- such a special bunch of lovely kids. They really had such an amazing time didn’t they in such a fantastic location.

minimits · 06/02/2022 10:12

Fantastic news @Lonecatwithkitten! Very much still in the middle of drama school auditions here-will be very happy when (if) DS gets a place somewhere!

allhailthebrain · 06/02/2022 16:06

Thanks @Lonecatwithkitten! Will be interested to learn more when the auditions come round :)

Montimom · 06/02/2022 17:37

Hi All, so this is where everyone’s been hiding 😂 well our weekend of auditions is done, furniture back where it’s supposed to be, and we are all allowed use the wifi again. Fingers crossed for everyone xx

Alakazam8 · 06/02/2022 18:25

Hi @montimom- enjoy the waiting room!

Biscuitsneeded · 06/02/2022 19:24

Welcome to this year's waiting room Montimom! Let's hope we're not hanging around in here for too long but nice to have your company while we wait.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 06/02/2022 20:13

pacing....

You will all remember I'm pretty terrible at this part 🤣🤣

Mcmumager · 06/02/2022 20:54

Ha ha@doesanybodyhaveamap. I’m the same but more because I need to know one way or the other so I can book my trip to London! We are definitely going week of the 21st but this determines when! Want to book hotel, show and trains.

The later you know the more expensive everything gets!!

Biscuitsneeded · 06/02/2022 21:29

@Mcmumager can you just book it anyway, and if no recall just do something nice that day anyway?

Mcmumager · 06/02/2022 21:43

Both my kids are in shows till the sat night and on the Sunday my dd is in an associate programme. So if we don’t need to go to London on the Sunday we will either go mon- weds or weds - sat as dd needs to be at home for a dance class on the weds- which is my birthday! Blooming kids diaries messing up my plans lol.

My preference was a lodge with a hot tub but London theatre trip won the vote!

Biscuitsneeded · 06/02/2022 22:09

Oh I see. DS is also in a show until the Sat night. If he did get a recall I have no idea how he would prepare as he is basically in tech and then shows all week.
I hate trying to make an entire family's activities fit together! I hope you get to do something nice for your birthday anyway!

allhailthebrain · 06/02/2022 22:33

@doesanybodyhaveamap ahhh the waiting room - your favourite place ;)

Well we're all in it together for now! I feel much more relaxed this year - what happens, happens! And if nothing happens then I'm blowing three year's of budget at once on the holidays (and that's just on testing to be allowed to go lol)

Mcmumager · 06/02/2022 22:57

Ooh so crossing fingers for a nice holiday this year!

Yes we are the same- tech, dress then shows all week next week plus school and rehearsing two other shows and a concert so maybe no time for a recall lol.

allhailthebrain · 07/02/2022 16:46

Fortunately our school show is not until later in the year, so half term is free!
