So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

Shows all over for ds as educating Yorkshire finished yesterday so dealing with post show blues. Absolutely loved it as so cleverly done in such a short space of time. Lovely to see @DalekFan dd on stage again too.

good luck to all those who have shows still to do- had hoped to see chess this weekend but tickets looked sold out! I can imagine it will be amazing.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 09/08/2022 07:39

Loving the buzz!! Off to see Chess next weekend, then DD joins the Ragtime crew for band rehearsals. Hoping to catch AKFC on the way back for her weekend off before production week- then we will have done all four NYMT shows!

@Mcmumager congrats to to your DS. Sounds like he had an amazing time again and the show was good. Will he audition again next year?
Any other BYMT shows happening now or imminently?
DS is at NYT currently which means I am going to watch some of his friends in Chess this week without him! Still looking forward to seeing it, however. He's off to NYMT rehearsals for Ragtime on Saturday. I still want to watch Cinderella, just trying to work out how and when.
@Comefromaway and @dancingclassicist are your DC enjoying themselves on Chess?

Biscuitsneeded · 09/08/2022 08:14

And @Montimom ?

Wow, you will be covering some miles!

Comefromaway · 09/08/2022 09:42

There have been ups and downs, it's a hard, intensive process but ds is rising to the challenge.

deepflatflyer · 09/08/2022 10:10

Is Chess the most ambitious, do you think? Must be a bit of a risk! Not that they're not all brilliant but bringing together a band and cast in a short space of time must be hard. I hope they're all enjoying it despite the hard work.

Comefromaway · 09/08/2022 10:15

Ds was asked to do Chess quite last minute and he was originally asked to be rehearsal pianist only before being asked to play for the show. He had a near meltdown over the fiendishly difficult piano vocal score but thankfully has ended up 'only' playing one of the keyboard parts.

The cast is phenomenal he says, I don't know how they get to that standard in such a short amount of time.

Biscuitsneeded · 09/08/2022 12:38

Chess sounds like it's a fiendishly complicated show. But Ragtime is also hugely ambitious. DS says the musical numbers alone will account for about 2 hours so it may be rather epic! Chess has the biggest cast, certainly. But they pulled off Hunchback last year which was a similar scale affair. I am sure it will all be great.

Comefromaway · 09/08/2022 12:49

Yes, Ragtime does also sound epic. I wish we could travel down to see it but its too far with too much else going on/other gig commitments/potential music college prep etc

Comefromaway · 09/08/2022 13:10

Nice review of Educating Yorkshire

Mcmumager · 09/08/2022 14:24

thanks @Comefromaway - my ds is the one kissing the teacher! Was quite amusing seeing posters of him snogging 😂😂😂.

@Biscuitsneeded I’m sure we will be back on the audition rollercoaster next year.

disorganisedmummy · 09/08/2022 17:25

Hi everyone, so ds is in the band (viola) on AKFC. It's his first time doing NYMT and he has been so looking forward to it but he's really struggling with exhaustion and they're only 2 days in. He's 16 and is Autistic which they know about. He did speak to someone in the pastoral team and has asked if he can have more regular breaks. I'm just having a wobble. He's already said that he doesn't want to audition next year as it's just so exhausting. He's worried about how he's going to get through next with with 5 shows. I so hope he can complete the course. I'm trying really hard not to freak out. When he is exhausted like this, he usually ends up having a massive meltdown. Do I leave him to get on with it or do I email someone in pastoral?

deepflatflyer · 09/08/2022 17:44

@disorganisedmummy it's good that he's already spoken to someone and he understands his own needs. I'd suggest you call the pastoral team - it's what they are there for and they should make reasonable adjustments. Is it possible that he's exhausted because it's all new but it might become easier? Can he rest and recharge at the weekend? I think once the show opens there is usually more free time.

I know how you feel though - I regularly freak out about both my neurodivergent kids. I think as parents we are always on high alert.

Starship9 · 09/08/2022 19:09

Hi there. My DD (14) is drumming in AKFC and although she's fine she is saying she's knackered and her back is killing her. Apparently they're rehearsing 11 hours a day with just one break each session. Seems a bit much to me. Going to chat to her later (first call since we left her) so will find out a bit more. Hope your DS fares ok.

disorganisedmummy · 09/08/2022 19:15

Starship9 thanks so much for your message. Bless your dd, ds has also said his back really hurts and he's a bit homesick. He has stayed away from home before. Dh messaged him and he said he's ok but tired and a bit overwhelmed so I'm hoping if he can get a good nights sleep, it will help.
I am concerned about rehearsing for 11 hours a day though. That sounds seriously intense. Hope your dd is ok when you speak to her. X

Starship9 · 09/08/2022 19:20

@disorganisedmummy she's just messaged to say they're finishing an hour earlier so hopefully the team could see they needed a break. I'll let you know how she is!! x

disorganisedmummy · 09/08/2022 19:22

Starship9 Oh thank god!! Thanks for letting me know. X

Comefromaway · 09/08/2022 20:17

Do email pastoral if you need to. They are great and have the interests of the young people at heart.

Comefromaway · 09/08/2022 20:43

When Ds was at Tonbridge he used to have a bit of a nap at lunchtimes before the afternoon session. Would a bit of decompression time in his room help your Ds at all?

dancingclassicist · 09/08/2022 22:54

Hellooo everyone! Yes DD opens with Chess tomorrow. Agreeing with the others it has been so so exhausting, especially in dance rehearsals and the 13 hour tech today… but from what I’ve heard it is indeed going to be epic!!

Starship9 · 09/08/2022 23:27

@disorganisedmummy did you speak to your ds? My dd was so tired she sounded drunk! But she said everyone is so lovely and they have acknowledged the kids are feeling fatigued. X

disorganisedmummy · 10/08/2022 08:09

Starship9 Morning, as much as I was desperate to speak to ds I felt it would be best not to as he had already said he was homesick and I felt he would get more upset. Dh messaged him last night and he said he was ok just tired and a bit overwhelmed. He does tend to get like this especially in new places. It's a bit like sensory overload. I messaged him this morning and he said (in as few words as was possible) that he slept well and is feeling better, back is ok. I'll just have to be happy with that!! Don't think I'll email pastoral yet. As he's 16 and is going to boarding school (weekly boarder) in September I need to allow him to work this out for himself but bloody hell, I'm finding it tough 😭. Thanks for all your support.

Biscuitsneeded · 10/08/2022 08:16

Break a leg, Chess company! Really looking forward to watching!
