So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

I follow the Training thread on NAPM also, but haven’t posted yet as DD in Year 11. It’s a really useful resource and full of information, if slightly daunting. I made a 6th form performing arts college spreadsheet which I sent to friends with performing kids and will do one for degree/diploma also. It helps to be able to see all the permutations of the various courses in one place! It is very complicated.

allhailthebrain · 14/06/2022 20:41

@DalekFan Can I take a look at your 6th form info, see if I missed any out? Mine is a little younger but already looking at the options.

Hello, can anyone who has been to MCT Alleyn's confirm what seating is like.
What is visibility like in the stalls? Does the balcony has any obstructions? I'm booking for shorter people so want to avoid being blocked. Thank you

DoReMeDo · 20/06/2022 14:45

@nearlyhomealone I think it's quite steeply raked. I'm not enormously tall and sat in the rear stalls and in the gallery last year. Reminds me - I must book my tickets!

Biscuitsneeded · 20/06/2022 16:14

I sat in the rear stalls for one show last year and felt a bit detached. Someone offered me a seat in the main stalls for Act Two and I felt like it was a different show! I don't know whether the sound was better there but I've gone for main stalls this year.

nearlyhomealone · 21/06/2022 09:23

Thank you @Biscuitsneeded and @DoReMeDo.

So we are less than a week away to NYMT in Concert. Ds is very excited. We are travelling down on Friday afternoon.

He has also now been asked to be a rehearsal pianist for Chess. He got sent the piano vocal today, sections of it are very tricky. It's a massive step up for him and he has been advised to look at three parts in particular first.

Biscuitsneeded · 04/07/2022 17:03

I'm really looking forward to watching the showcase on Saturday, DS too! Break a leg to all involved.

That's amazing news for your DS, @Comefromaway . I had heard that the Chess score is tricky for singers and instrumentalists alike. A compliment to be asked, and am sure with practice your DS will master it and have a fabulous time with the Chess cast. Can't wait to watch that one either!

Starship9 · 04/07/2022 20:57

Is this the showcase at Fuse? I'm so confused. I was asked if DD was available on 9th July but have heard nothing further.

Biscuitsneeded · 11/07/2022 09:53

Just wanted to say congratulations to all the DC involved as performers or band for the NYMT showcase on Saturday. What a show! DS and I left feeling really joyful.

@Starship9 I'm really sorry your DD didn't hear anything. It sounds as if some emails may have gone astray or gone to junk. Is your DD in the band for another show? I would just ping them an email explaining there may have been a communication breakdown so that you can be back in the loop. NYMT are quite small so for future reference, if you hear nothing when you think you should have, it's a good idea to follow p. They would never show interest and then go cold deliberately, so it sounds as if the comms have gone wrong somehow. Hopefully it's not too late for your DD to be involved in something his year, or at least be remembered for next year.

Comefromaway · 11/07/2022 10:53

And they do remember for next year. If you remember I do know that the band at Fuse had to be reduced in size from that originally planned. It does sound like a communication went astray. Last year when ds did not get in they sent a lovely email saying they would keep him on file for potential future projects.

The new news is that ds was asked if he is now available to play for the actual show of Chess. I think someone may have dropped out, not sure. Unfortunately he was already booked to play at a wedding on one of the days, fortunately he has a dad who is willing to dep for him (lucky wedding couple are getting a professional musician for student rates now!)

Starship9 · 11/07/2022 11:25

Thank you so much. I sent an email in the end to clarify and got an apologetic response saying they should have let me know she was no longer needed. She is in the band for 'Cinderella' this year so she will get to play thankfully!! Glad the show was good!

Comefromaway · 11/07/2022 12:14

That's great. Cinderella sound fun from what I've heard.

Biscuitsneeded · 11/07/2022 14:02

That's great news for your son, @Comefromaway . He's having quite a trajectory! Really glad to hear it is all going well for him - I hope he enjoyed Saturday? We thought the band sounded amazing.

Biscuitsneeded · 11/07/2022 14:03

@Starship9 Glad things are sorted. I'm sure your DD will have a great time on Cinderella.

Thank-you, yes, he had a fantastic time.

Songs for a New World has special significance for our family. It's the show that made dd want to pursue MT as a career and ds is a JRB fanatic. He has long wanted to play in a production of it. To hear him open the whole show with those opening 5 piano notes of A New World was incredibly special.

Other highlights for us were Quiet & Ring of Keys.

Alakazam8 · 16/07/2022 16:34

Yes concert was absolutely fantastic what an experience for them all. @Comefromaway i know what you mean about those opening notes, will always give me chills now!! (And I’ve heard them quite a lot….)

Comefromaway · 16/07/2022 17:45

Did you see the Palladium performance of it? Now that did send chills.

allhailthebrain · 16/07/2022 18:18

I've seen lots of photos and seen some footage - bravo concert crew! Performers and band alike!

Eagerly awaiting the workshop later in the summer here x

Comefromaway · 16/07/2022 18:41

So, who is next. Chess residential starts in 2 weeks time. when is Kiss for Cinderella & Ragtime?

Alakazam8 · 16/07/2022 19:35

Didn’t see the palladium perf- are there clips online?
good luck to all those still to perform this summer!

deepflatflyer · 08/08/2022 22:26

How's it all going for everyone? Chess in its second week. Has Cinderella started yet? Ragtime (where i have a kiddo doing NYMT for the first time) is a week away. Summer already going fast!

Comefromaway · 08/08/2022 22:42

Chess moved into the theatre today. Apparently the cast is phenomenal.

minimits · 08/08/2022 23:56

DS started Cinderella rehearsals Saturday-absolutely loving it-sounds like they’re still finalising bits but he’s loving being able to have some creative input. Chess looks amazing!

allhailthebrain · 09/08/2022 00:17

Mine is workshop and very excited to head to SevenOaks next week! It's been lovely watching the stage press picking up on the piece NYMT will be workshopping for the last couple of weeks since Jordan announced it - I'm sure the Workshop crew will have a fab time sailing the ocean in an armchair!
