Thought I'd start a thread now that the shows have been revealed. Who's got a DC or student applying? I have a feeling in my bones it won't be my DS's year this time - he's nearly 15, voice not broken but not reliable either, and apart from the one show we don't know I can't see anything he could obviously do! But he'll give it best shot and if no luck we'll still watch the shows. Good luck to all!

Poor NYMT and every other organisation! I’ve spent a year programming events for a festival that might be cancelled any minute. Happy days! Have had same email pretty much from every organisation/class DS is involved with. I’m wondering if I’m going to be teaching through Skype soon...(although I teach reception so not quite sure how that’ll workGrin). It’s all such an unknown so not worrying about it yet. Interesting times...

Biscuitsneeded · 10/03/2020 07:22

Yes. To be honest I had wondering what the possibilities might be. I think it's really good they've made a statement now. They will all be desperately wanting everything to go ahead but are also a very responsible organisation. I guess it's watch and wait...Sad

How gutting if it doesn't go ahead! I hope they'll manage to put the productions on later in the year, would be awful for everyone to miss out altogether. I fear that Imaginary will get canned completely as they've only got Easter 😢

But a very sensible and measured response from NYMT in the circumstances. None of us know what the next few weeks will bring!

Malmontar · 10/03/2020 08:27

That's gutting. Really hope it all goes ahead. We have an annual show at the end of this month for our performing arts center. It's a huge production in a full sized theatre with 300+ kids showcasing things from their classes. We have costumes etc but they're not releasing tickets till end of this week as they don't know if it's running.

minimits · 10/03/2020 08:31

DS has been rehearsing for an epic production of Les Mis since September at school and is Jean Valjean. It’s in two weeks time. I can’t even mention the possibility of it being cancelled...they can’t postpone. Happy days!

Triflefan · 10/03/2020 09:56

Fingers crossed it will still go ahead although what are the chances of the Easter week realistically?
Minimits, I hope Les Mis goes ahead.
It would be so much time and effort lost and adults can suck it up but youngsters are obviously going to be more disappointed

Biscuitsneeded · 10/03/2020 11:02

I honestly don't know. If UK schools close it will be difficult to argue that Easter residentials should go ahead. However, will boarding schools close? I guess all NYMT can do is be guided by govt advice and the venue schools themselves.

OP posts:
minimits · 10/03/2020 11:10

Yes I’m wondering about DS’s school which has boarders. Loads already can’t go home and have been staying with friends at the weekends. Sure we’ll all find out more Wednesday!

Paddleroundthepier · 10/03/2020 19:50

Guess this is why Musicians haven’t heard yet - they must be really busy with contingency plans etc. Doesn’t make the wait for news any easier!

folkmamma · 10/03/2020 20:01

I did give a very gentle and Uber polite nudge for news earlier... they are still (quote) "shuffling musicians about" due to availability issues, but hope to get the offers out this week. I do feel bad nagging and being so anxious for news when she's already got something in the bag, but we need to make some decisions!

Lonecatwithkitten · 11/03/2020 09:12

I am the chairperson of DD's musical theatre group they have been rehearsing Aladdin since September and are due to perform the first weekend in April. We are preparing in case we have to cancel, theatre space is so tight in our area there is no hope of rescheduling. As a small organisation we could loose thousands.

We're still getting emails to sign up to BYMTs Easter course. No news about their last audition being cancelled either

Paddleroundthepier · 13/03/2020 13:21

Nothing yet since the email last week @Stringchild
@folkmamma has been in touch with them thought (post further up thread) and reported they were still working on it and outcomes by the end of the week (I think).

Biscuitsneeded · 13/03/2020 13:29

I think if I were NYMT I would be looking at ways to save the shows and possibly recalibrate the summer dates if Easter residentials can't go ahead. So they may be very busy with that, but there may also need to be some date changes, so until those are confirmed they possibly can't definitively allocate musicians. It might also mean some cast changes too if people can't be available for different dates. It must be an absolute nightmare for them. I think since none of us know what will or won't be happening by summer in any respect, and planned holidays etc may not happen anyway, all any of us can do is sit tight and await further news. I sympathise with musicians who dont know if they have a show, or which one, but even the people cast already don't know what will happen really. NYMT are above all extremely responsible people so they won't be taking any decisions lightly and I am sure they will be in touch as soon as there is any news.

Biscuits has just hit the nail on the head. Email has just gone out to Imaginary parents. They are clearly busy dealing with other things and all dates are subject to change...

Triflefan · 13/03/2020 15:36

Did you all just receive the Easter residential email?

folkmamma · 13/03/2020 16:05

We got one that I think was specific to Imaginary. 😞 but prob not a lot else they could do... ours said rehearsals pushed back to summer (as originally we were all done by then!) with shows in September/October. What about the other shows??

Triflefan · 13/03/2020 16:08

@folkmammaFor KMK I think they’re exploring the possibility of extra time in the summer to rehearse but of course, this relays on people being available.
Easter is cancelled though 😕
Can’t be helped but still disappointing

minimits · 13/03/2020 16:36

We are supposed to be holiday week after KMK so in a bit of a quandary as to wether we try and change the dates! Such a nightmare for them all to try and re-organise. DS would be so gutted if the one year he got in he couldn’t actually do it! Awful for everyone. All so unknown but got to do what’s best to keep everyone safe.

folkmamma · 13/03/2020 16:37

I'm just hugely relieved Imaginary is not cancelled. Because that was my fear with them only having Easter to rehearse...

minimits · 13/03/2020 17:00

Yes they are making a monumental effort to get it to all go ahead-no mean feat! Very impressed.

Biscuitsneeded · 13/03/2020 18:30

I can't imagine the headaches this must be causing... Mimimits what is being proposed for KMK? Only to run on a week later, or possibly start earlier too? For Henrietta they have asked about both possibilities, but it's the middle show so could theoretically go either way. Can you investigate what it would cost to move your holiday dates? I imagine not many people will be booking foreign holidays at the moment so they might be flexible.

OP posts:
Biscuitsneeded · 13/03/2020 18:32

Or... go without DS, but that might mean you didn't get to see the show! We weren't planning a holiday this year unless something spectacularly cheap came up last minute, so luckily we can be flexible.

OP posts:
folkmamma · 13/03/2020 20:42

Ironically @Biscuitsneeded most holidays will probably now be cheap as chips this year...
