Thought I'd start a thread now that the shows have been revealed. Who's got a DC or student applying? I have a feeling in my bones it won't be my DS's year this time - he's nearly 15, voice not broken but not reliable either, and apart from the one show we don't know I can't see anything he could obviously do! But he'll give it best shot and if no luck we'll still watch the shows. Good luck to all!

Good luck to him Biscuits - you never can tell with these things.

Biscuitsneeded · 05/01/2020 21:14

It's true you never can tell. He has a singing teacher who is great so hopefully she and he will come up with a good plan!

@manicmumsday remind him to thank the pianist after they have played for them as they are not just talent, but ability to work will in a team.
I have other news DD has been offered and accepted a place at Read College for their sixth form MT course which is really exciting.

manicmumsday · 06/01/2020 14:33

@biscuitsneeded: thank you, that's a really kind offer. Will definitely take you up on it as DS would love some more opportunities to perform. He definitely seems to have decided that theatre is his thing. Good luck to your DS for the 2nd. Breaking voices seem to be very unpredictable, being wobbly one day and fine the next (my oldest DS' voice is also breaking) so it could be that his voice is fine on the day. Fingers crossed.

@Lonecatwithkitten: great tip, thanks, will pass it onto DS. Congratulations to your DD for her sixth form place!

Biscuitsneeded · 06/01/2020 14:55

@Lonecatwithkitten, that's great news, a huge well done to your DD. @manicmumsday, thank you, I will reply tonight!

@EvilTwins. How exciting re Sleepy Hollow! My DD very fortunate to have been part of that original NYMT cast too and she just loved the experience, the music and the whole show.

Didn't get in at all in 2019 - but we had issues with loose teeth around audition time :-) last year which hugely affected her ability to be able to sing properly!

Trying again in 2020...….

Biscuitsneeded · 07/01/2020 06:58

@HandbagAddiction. Hello! Loads of luck to DD xx

So DD had her audition yesterday. She had an absolutely brilliant day!!! Said there was some incredible talent there so (quote) "I don't think it will be this year Mummy". Although I'll still be on obsessive refresh until we hear one way or another 🤣

How's everyone else getting on??

minimits · 20/01/2020 10:05

That's great to hear folk mamma. DS also loved his audition, he's even returned with a whole new group of friends as they created a group chat after and have been chatting ever since! He's been recalled for Kiss me Kate but is realistic about his chances. It's his fourth year of trying and third recall year so he's certainly determined! Good luck to your DD!

folkmamma · 20/01/2020 10:21

Oooh congrats on the recall @minimits!! Let's hope third time lucky!!

DD still young (12) and also a musician so she auditioned as both. She is also very determined and will (quote) "just keep on trying until they let me in" 😂

folkmamma · 20/01/2020 17:58

Eeeeeek! Just heard DD has been re-called for Imaginary! 🤩😍 we are absolutely delighted, even if it goes no further she's so happy to have made it through!

minimits · 20/01/2020 19:23

Woohoo folkmamma! Just to get a recall is fab! Congrats!

Biscuitsneeded · 20/01/2020 22:05

Big congrats to Minimits' DS and Folkmamma's DD. Great news.

@minimits congratulations to your DS.
@folkmamma if doesn't get recall consider BYMT DD had a great time last year and really benefited.

folkmamma · 21/01/2020 13:12

Already booked in for BYMT audition @lonecatwithkitten (although now had to request to move it as she is currently booked in for the same day as her NYMT recall....)

minimits · 26/01/2020 19:08

Thanks lonecatwithkitten! And congrats on the Read college place! It looks great. DS didn’t fancy the commute or we would have looked too!

Biscuitsneeded · 02/02/2020 19:47

Thought I would update. DS did his NYMT audition today. Really enjoyed it all although with a breaking voice he felt his singing was never going to be his strong suit. It wasn't a total disaster so he's relatively content with that, but doesn't know if he did enough. We'll have to wait and see...

Yay for mini-biscuits!!! Fingers crossed now 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Everything crossed biscuitsneeded!

Oakmaiden · 03/02/2020 19:53

My daughter is auditioning for NYMT and BYMT this year - she auditioned for BYMT last year and was offered a place in Wanderlust, but could t do it in the end (she ended up dancing with the English Youth Ballet instead).

We have just heard she has been called back for the NYMT productions of Kiss Me Kate and Ragtime, so she is very exited about that!

I was just wondering if anyone was in a position to offer a comparison of BYMT and NYMT? I had got the impression that the NYMT was the more "professional " of the two, but ha e no idea what I have based that on so wondered if anyone who actually knows something about it might comment?

folkmamma · 03/02/2020 20:46

Congrats @Oakmaiden DD!! My DD is also trying for both - BYMT audition this coming weekend and she seems to be going down with the lurgy 😔 hopefully she'll be over it in time for her NYMT call back, even if this weekend turns out to be a disaster....

No experience here as we are first timers to both, but my first impressions and the feeling I get from others aligns with yours.

Best of luck with call backs!

Biscuitsneeded · 03/02/2020 21:23

Hi @Oakmaiden, and well done to your DD. A recall is no mean feat. I only have experience of NYMT. DS did get into BYMT one year but had already committed to NYMT. He has friends who have done both and enjoyed both. Most of them have found the shows very good in different ways. BYMT is much larger which means more opportunities for kids to be involved, but also I think it's fair to say not quite the level of organisation and attention to detail with some of the practical as opposed to artistic aspects - but this is only based on friends' experiences. I think your DD would probably really love either of them! Good luck to your Dd with her recall. And @Folkmamma I hope your DD is on the mend quickly!

Oh, and no news here. @Oakmaiden did your DD just audition this weekend or was it last weekend?Trying to gauge when we might hear something!

OP posts:
Biscuitsneeded · 03/02/2020 21:29

Oh and just to add that after 4 years I can personally vouch for NYMT being a really fabulous organisation and a wonderful experience.

@Biscuitsneeded DD auditioned on Saturday. She heard this afternoon.

The timings of the NYMT rehearsals (Easter) are a little awkward as she would have to step out of another production she has been offered a place in to do it, but since they haven't cast (or actually written) that production yet, it wouldn't be the end of the world. And to make things extra complicated she is in yet another play performing in the beginning of April:the dates I was given for the performances were 2 and 3 April, but dd is convinced she has been told she will be expected to perform at a festival on the 5th too, which would actually be a big problem, so if she were to get a NYMT place we would have to do a lot of planning...

What it is to be sooooo busy!
