Sorry to the ongoing couch to 5k thread but I am looking for others just starting out (and it looks like there might be quite a few of us on popsycal's thread).

So...anyone starting week 1 this week?

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 02/05/2010 08:52

have done wk 5 runs 1 and 2, didn't really bother me but i am taking it very slow, do you think that is ok?

ladylush · 03/05/2010 15:45

coupleofkooks I reckon it's fine to run slowly. Main thing is to keep running. As you get used to running for a long duration it will get easier to up your speed. Get me - like I'm an expert
I was supposed to do week 5 run 2 yesterday but I couldn't face it as I was hung over badly. Going to try today but we are taking the dc swimming and I'll have to see if I can fit it in.

CoupleofKooks · 03/05/2010 18:44

we're all experts now after 4 weeks

i did wk 5 run 3 today and because i was worried about the speed thing, i mapped the distance on mapmyrun, and found i had run over 2 miles
really pleased and it wasn't that hard
i can't believe i have got this far
the programme is excellent, you progress so quickly but without it being horribly hard

ladylush · 03/05/2010 21:05

well done kooks Didn't manage to go tonight cos swimming went on too late but going tomorrow. Think I'll manage the 8 min runs, not sure about the 20min run after that but will give it my best

CoupleofKooks · 03/05/2010 21:09

at the beginning of the week i thought no way was i going to do it
you'll be fine, good luck

ladylush · 04/05/2010 11:04

Encouraging coupleofkooks - hope you are right. Suspect I will be rusty though as only managed two runs this week.

ladylush · 05/05/2010 10:57

managed the 2 8 min runs and found it comfortable. Got the big one on friday. The 20 min run. Yikes

CoupleofKooks · 05/05/2010 19:22

oh i bet you'll be fine
my friend, who Knows Stuff about exercise, told me that interval training is actually harder on the body than straight running of longer distances, as your body has to start then stop then start again - it's more testing

this would maybe explain why after the 20 min run we go back to intervals again, before doing a 25 min run at the end of wk 6?

ladylush · 09/05/2010 15:59

Managed the 20 mins run today Very pleased. I still felt as if I had more to give so am beginning to see how I will manage the 5k. Atm am running 3k. I am pretty slow though (run about 8km per hour). I'm not worried about the speed right now, can improve on that later.

How is everyone else doing? Kooks - how many times are you going in the week?

CoupleofKooks · 10/05/2010 22:24

nice work lush! knew you would do it
i should really have been out tonight, last run was on saturday, but was dog tired (not enough sleep, have 2 boys, 1 early riser and 1 night owl - ouch)
i am mostly getting out 3 times per week, but sometimes it is 3 times in 8 days
i'm running just over 1 mile in 10 mins - don't know how that translates to km, but seems to be about what rob is wanting on the podcasts
agree the distance is the thing - you can build up speed later
now i have got over that 20 min hump i am far too over confident and think i can do anything

ladylush · 11/05/2010 10:58

confidence is good Poor you with the night owl and early bird - when they are teenagers you will struggle to get them out of bed! You can get your own back then and start the hoovering at 7am

I am really enjoying this running lark now and although I'm not losing weight I think I am getting more toned, so pleased And fitter - that's the main thing.

CoupleofKooks · 11/05/2010 21:45

my mp3 player ran out of batteries half way round wk6 r3! i was determined to do the distance but had no way of telling how far i had gone, so i just kept on beyond all reasonable doubt

plotted it on mapmyrun when i got in, and i went 2.6 miles apparently very happy

ladylush · 11/05/2010 22:40

That's brilliant Well done Who needs the Robcast eh

CoupleofKooks · 11/05/2010 22:44

i discovered a few things
like how people always know i am coming up behind them and that they should get out of the way - this has been confusing me for a while
i didn't know that without rob to block it out, i sound like a steam train with asthma heffalumping along behind them

CoupleofKooks · 11/05/2010 22:46

saw you on dp's thread btw, you made me snort

is anyone else coming back to this thread do yyou think? have they all gone somewhere else and forgotten to invite us?

ladylush · 11/05/2010 23:03

Lol at your description I dread to think what I look/sound like

I really should stay off those threads - it's a love hate thing

CoupleofKooks · 14/05/2010 20:34

how are you doing lush? i did wk 7 r1 today, 2.5 miles
i found it hard mentally, the long runs are not so interesting as the intervals i guess? and rob doesn't talk much, he only noted when it was half finished and then 1 min to go
i am not sure what will keep me motivated the next 3 weeks - all the runs are virtually the same and they are just long with no variations
the music this week was pretty crap as well i thought
maybe i was just tired

anyone any ideas, what can keep me interested?

ladylush · 17/05/2010 09:59

Morning Kooks I found it hard on saturday. Not sure why as it was still intervals - 10 running, 3 walking, 10 running. Tonight or tomorrow I have to do 25 mins straight. Dreading it. I use the treadmill at the gym and switch channels on the tv (sometimes tv, sometimes radio). Maybe you could use your own music (ipod?)and set a timer for half way? A lot of people say they don't like the Robcast music.

CoupleofKooks · 17/05/2010 20:27

i usually like the music - there's a couple of tracks i've not been keen on - but he used to talk more - i'd like it to say when you've done 5 mins, and say something encouraging god i am so high maintenance
shall i email him and say i thought we had something special going, but now i feel he doesn't care any more?

i didn't go last night and i haven't gone tonight - so i haven't run since friday
oh dear

ladylush · 18/05/2010 09:50

lol @ high maintenance Yeah I agree - he seems to be cooling off

I will be doing my first 25 min run today. I'm already in a bad mood at the thought of it. Oh dear.

ladylush · 18/05/2010 16:52

I did it

CoupleofKooks · 18/05/2010 17:13

ooh now reading you have done yours makes me feel more inclined to do mine

but still not sure i can be arsed

ladylush · 18/05/2010 18:24

lol ikwym - the 25 min runs are boring aren't they.

ladylush · 25/05/2010 22:27

ditto
Got 28 min run next How are you doing Kooks? Is it just you and I left?

CoupleofKooks · 27/05/2010 19:13

i gave myself 10 days off as i was feeling jaded
like you, have just finished wk 7
went on mapmyrun and i seem to have done about 2.6 miles so hopefully next week won't seem too bad
i think this is wrong sport for me possibly - not enough novelty! i am not a sticker - need entertainment and distraction
