Updating mine as don't think I'll be up to 10K as might not be able to run for 6 weeks startign Christmas week and currently only running 5K but happy to push it a bit if it fits in wiht anyone else.

Girls - happy to join you in RP if it fits in although a) I might not run as far as you b) I might not run as fast as you and c) there's a chance we might be coming back from hols that w/e so I may have to somehow do it on the monday but... in theory yes

Twink - am glad all went well and it was a fitting tribute. minitwink sounds a superstar - how old is she ?

liath · 11/12/2009 17:43

I've put myself down for 5k as I don't know how it's going to go training post-tendonitis - am taking it VERY slowly. If there was anyone else interested in Edinburgh we could do laps round the Meadows or Arthur's Seat.

Will drink to Mr T tonight.

Wheelybug · 11/12/2009 21:22
  • I am currently doing 5K in 33 mins on the treadmill (and wondering how I ever used to do it in sub 27 mins, it absolutely doesn't feel physically possible) so we could trundle along together if we do the same distance and if I'm here
sfxmum · 12/12/2009 11:42

hello all

Hello fellow runners! i am 5wk pregnant, this is my first and i am very green!

i want to keep running but have read your heart rate needs to stay below 140.. this is impossible.. i am always 165-180 range. has anyone else run while PG? any advice?

tks!

popsycal · 12/12/2009 14:12

i THINK somneone is running pregnant on this thread.......must read more closely

Have a scan down.....

popsycal · 12/12/2009 14:12

...and welcome

MoshiMoshi · 12/12/2009 17:53

Hello and congratulations, Tiany! I ran while pregnant with all four of mine and what I will say is to make sure that you can always hold a conversation while running. I think the advice is very generalized and it is possible to take a step down from your usual level of activity but continue as long as you feel comfortable and well. The first trimester should be treated carefully while your body adjusts to the changing hormones etc as you will have your old running head on but a rapidly changing body. After that, it is more a case of dealing with the increasing weight and issues with balance as your bump grows. The last pregnancy was definitely the hardest for me as I had the three others to look after and I definitely felt a lot older than when I was pregnant with number 1. But I continued running in all cases, up to 38 weeks the first time (DC1 arrived at 39 weeks). Most recently up to around 31 weeks I stopped as I was constantly coming down with viruses so took it as a sign to slow down. How much running are you used to doing?

tiany · 13/12/2009 00:29

Hi Moshi - thank u

I ran NY marathon last year and do lot of 10k's but recently I have just been getting out around 3-4 times a week for a 3-4mile run.
(my normal pace is 8min mile - but cant have a chat at that rate!)

I just love running, especially on saturday & sunday mornings, its almost therapy for me.

girlsyearapart · 13/12/2009 06:12

hi Tiany congrats.

We are trying for our third so am hoping to be a pregnant runner soon too

moshi wow running until 38 weeks- nuff respec to you!

wheely ok it's a date (sort of) Do you know any 5k trails in the park and can you remember who else on here was local to us?

tiany · 13/12/2009 22:22

tks Girlsyearapart! I went for a little trot this morning. Slowed right down and looked like a loony talking to myself every few mins to make sure i wasnt going to fast haha but felt good to be out there

stickylittlefingers · 14/12/2009 12:36

Hi - I was waiting to see if there were any "gaps" needed filling - anything 13 miles or under would be fine by me.

I'm hoping for one of they Nikey things for xmas, so can do it in a high-tech fashion!

popsycal · 14/12/2009 20:16

Hi folks.

Would anyone help me to make some decisions about the MN mArathon relay - don't want to be the Richard Branson of virtual racing

My Questions

  1. Shall we make teams firstly from us lot on this thread?
  2. If so, does anyone have any suggestions about how to go about it? Teams of similar speed? Mixed speed teams? Random from the hat teams (obviously paying attention to the different pledges)?
  3. Any suggestions about when/how togo about recruiting other potential runners? My inital thought was either between xmas and new year or immediatlely post-new year to catch those resolutoins - and that gives exactly 12 weeks for novices to do 12 week couch to 5k programmes. I keep running through in my head about how - thread titles to catch people's attention. Would we put newbies in teams together or mix it all up for motivation? I am thinking aboiut asking MNHQW to put it in their roundup.... 4)I am in the process of setting up a blog (any helpers to write? My running diary is pretty scant and will, soon, set up a general just giving page - I think all fund going to one place is a good idea. I was also thinking of careful wording of just giving so that those of us who like our anonymity on MN won't have family stalking us
  4. I was consdiering approaching Macmillan to tell them our plans and await their response....
  5. was thinking of putting together an opening thread post - ie links to training plans, couch to 5k podcasts, shoe advice etc. Any suggestions?

Like most of us,it will get mega busy over the next few weeks and I just want to time it right to get maximum support

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/12/2009 20:34

Re the blog popsy - perhaps we could all do a bit for it. How/why we started running? I know Twink first started with a Race for Life - this is sort of a circle of life thing for you isn't it Twink?

As regards teams obviously we've got more than enough for one marathon - would it be better to aim to run a total number of km over that weekend? Someone I know is doing something similar - aiming to run 1000k in a year ( he has a heart condition and is raising awareness)

popsycal · 14/12/2009 20:40

saggar - that sounds better actually - a grand total. I likethat

sfxmum · 14/12/2009 21:18

HI

had very brief look
I worry about letting the side down if you are going for times/ speed instead of plain old distance but would do my best obviously

like the idea of blog actually good to draw inspiration and support

will have to read more carefully as atm am trying to catch up with study after assorted illnesses
might have missed details

as you were
