oh moshi hugs to you. I hope you can find the strength to deal with this. Twink will guide you through it I am sure.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/12/2009 19:09

Sorry to read your news Moshi

Twink, blimey, tough run in so many ways. And MiniT - fab poem, fab girl, she'll be fine in the cafe. x

Wallace · 30/12/2009 19:22

Sorry to hear your news, Moshi

sfxmum · 30/12/2009 19:27

moshi I am sorry to hear your news

twink it is good you can find comfort in things you shared, your dd sounds lovely I expect she is quite mature for her age sometimes

Wheelybug · 30/12/2009 19:32

So sorry Moshi, what sad news and must be an awful shock for you.

Twink - what a great dd you have. She sounds like she'll be fine in the cafe (I would have thought that as long as she is happy to do it there isn't really a problem). Well done for tackling boxing day run.

fishie · 30/12/2009 19:33

moshi so sorry.

twink i can't imagine that poem leaving anyone dry eyed. hope she has a lovely book to read tomorrow and get her a hot choc from me.

popsycal · 30/12/2009 19:59

Moshi - so sorry abot your dad. Hope you are ok

Twink - your daghter is a star (guess you already knew that) - I also suspect she may secretly enjoy her time in the gym cafe and feel very grown up

Thinking of you all

popsycal · 30/12/2009 20:12

what about the following?

And suggestions for attention grabbing thread title greatly appreciated

Would you like to shed a few Christmas pounds and help a really worthwhile cause at the same time? But do you shudder at the thought of your lycra-clad body setting foot outside? We have all been there.

In just over 12 weeks time, there is a MN fundraising event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care ? no matter what your current fitness level, you can do your bit to get fit and raise money.

If I can do it, then anyone can! Until just over two years ago, the very thought of running made me quiver. It brought back memories of cross country at school and green polyester running knickers and trying to hide behind a tree during the first lap waiting to re-join the rest of the girls during the third lap.

So when a work colleague encouraged me to join her to run 5k for the Race for Life, I very nearly laughed in her face. My first ?run? was an 18 minute session where I walked two minutes then ?ran? 1 minute and repeated six times. I clearly remember frantically checking my stop watch in the ?run? segment and wondering how on EARTH I would manage to run a further 40 seconds before I could walk again .

However, something in me rose to the challenge and, in as little as 12 weeks, I went from ?running-phobic? to ?3.1 miles in 26-ish minutes without stopping?. This year, I ran the Great North Run in a little over two hours. Needless to say, the friend who gently persuaded me to run back in May 2007 transformed my life and, by default, helped to transform the lives of those who I have raised money for over the last few years.

In just over 12 weeks time, we are organising a ?MN Marathon Relay? in honour of an amazing Mumsnetter, Twink, and her DH, fondly known on our running thread as Mr T. During the early stages of organising this event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care, Mr T sadly passed away after a really brave fight against cancer. This secured in our mind that we really wanted our MN Marathon to go ahead to remember Mr T.

Here is how it works. You pledge a distance you can run ? 5k (3.1 miles) is perfectly doable in 12 weeks for a complete running novice. You get put in ?teams? who together run a collective marathon between them. Teams are just ?virtual? ? you don?t meet up but the camaraderie and support you will receive will spur you on. You encourage people to sponsor/donate money via a collective Just Giving page. On the weekend of 27/28 March, you run your distance having been out regularly (and followed one of the couch to 5k training plans that we are going to post shortly).

MNHQ have pledged a team who will cover 26.2 miles between them. We already have approximately twenty runners taking part from our regular running thread but would really like to invite anyone who wants to get rid of the Christmas ?spread? or would just like to get healthy in the New Year to join us whilst raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

You don't even have to run the full 5k - Run-walk-run is perfectly respectable and many marathon runners use this technique tactically - and we have a training plan that you can follow for this too.

More practical training pages, fundraising details, blogs and personal stories to follow. But please sign up below if you think you would like to participate in this event for a very worthwhile cause which Twink, and many other Mumsnetters, have had great support and help from during extremely difficult times.

popsycal · 30/12/2009 21:13

want to start the thread tonight
but I have no idea what to call it to grab attention without scaring people :

fishie · 30/12/2009 21:43

popsy it is great. maybe put in actual dates rather than 12 weeks in second para.

no idea what to call thread, what have you so far?

popsycal · 30/12/2009 21:50

will add dates nearer top of thread

thread titles....nothing so far as my brain is mush

MrsWednesday · 30/12/2009 21:59

Popsy, that is fantastic - very motivating and thoughtful. Absolutely no help on the thread title though, I'm useless at that sort of thing.

Moshi, I'm so sorry about your dad. What a devastating thing to happen. I'm hope you have people around you to help with all the legalities, there is so much to do at a time when your mind is all over the place. Hope you get the chance to sneak out for a little run, just to get a bit of head space.x

Twink, your DD sounds like an amazing girl, a credit to you and Mr T. She sounds so sensible and lovely and the poem is heartbreakingly wonderful. Tough Boxing Day run, in every way.

Have managed to get out for a couple of tentative runs on the ice since Christmas Day but have been lazy tonight and decided not to go out. Slightly cross with myself now!

OrmIrian · 30/12/2009 22:42

moshi - so very sorry.

girlsyearapart · 31/12/2009 08:06

popsycal How about putting it in AIBU under "AIBU to have bumsex in a parent and child space whilst pregnant and smoking with my formula fed baby in the back in an incorrectly fitted car seat?"

That should get some clicks

OrmIrian · 31/12/2009 09:43

How about titling it: 'Oi fat feckers! Move yer arses!' ?

I think it will get attention. Maybe not totally positive

popsycal · 31/12/2009 10:17

am laughing at thread title suggestions
wonder whether to put it in site stuff as it will disappearfrom chat......

sfxmum · 31/12/2009 11:22

oh I like the title suggestion

trying to think of some...

Hi everyone

What a lot of sad news

Twink - I am so sorry, but at the same time impressed by the way you and your daughter seem to be supporting each other. She does sound wonderful.

Moshi, what a terrible shock, I feel so sad for you and your family.

I've been off MN for a month because also sent reeling by the death of a very dear friend and colleague, haven't been running, have kept going with work and family stuff in a bit of a daze. But I do need to start running again, and think this thread is good motivation.

That's why I havent signed up properly for the run,, but i will aim to do it, put me down for 10k. Sorry may have missed stuff on this thread but will have a proper read soon.

Best wishes to all for a peaceful and happy time in 2010 - and good running!

hi - isn't the thread going great! This is going to be brilliant!

I'm so sorry the new year hasn't started well for you moshi and soyabean. And Twink and minitwink have left me "teary in a good way" yet again.

Popsycal - I work in Newcastle, but live in Durham. In fact, I was just going over to the Durham thread to see if I could drum up any support for the marathon... Are you in Newcastle?

OK, just back from nosing around the thread again - you were posting about the Newcastle parkrun - so I'm guessing you must be somewhere nearby (see the speed of that brain! Almost as fast as my running!!). Hello!!
