have any of you ever done the bleep test? gave it a go for the first time today - 11.4 was my best

hard!

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/12/2009 16:16

What do you do Tut?

TutTutter · 03/12/2009 16:40

here you go - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-stage_fitness_test

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/12/2009 16:51

You are now eligible to join the Marines Tut.

Looks scary to me.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/12/2009 18:26

Glad you got out there Twink.

I did a bleep test years ago when I was netball training Tutter. I can't tell you how I did other than I thought I was going to be sick at the end. I looked like this -->

popsycal · 03/12/2009 20:35

bleep test sounds crazy

gld you got out there, Twink, but don't forget that you can talk to us as and when you needto. Keep on running.

Ihave finsiished Murakami's boob and really enjoyed it

Fulll steam ahead for MN Marathon proceeds to Macmillan. CUrrently pondering logstics

un-mn-ly hugs for twink and dd

MoshiMoshi · 04/12/2009 16:07

Glad to hear you are up and running, Twink! Have been digging up old half marathon training schedules in readiness for March and decided that I may try to fit in a couple of marathons in summertime if training progresses well and I am managing to work it out with juggling the kids. Will all be in aid of Macmillan and a hospice in York where a friend passed away recently. (Ta da! My goals for 2010!)

popsycal · 04/12/2009 19:31

I found myself pondering a marathon last night then gave myself a good shake and told DH to NEVER let me do a marathon. Well, at least not until the kids are bigger

I finished 'The Boob' a few days back. Inspiring. WIll go back to it over Christmas. Is it totally unacceptable to take to it with a pencil and underline key passages?????

My 2010 plan (MOshi got me thinking....) is

  • Jan 3rd local 8(ish) mile run in aid of local cancer hospices and hospital wards

  • end of March - MN Marathon relay (15k leg? Or whatever we need)

  • arpil 2010 - a couple of multi terrain races - one literally on my doorstep and another right near where I grew up

  • 9th f June - Blaydon Race

  • July - GN 10K again

  • Set - GNR

WIll also look at local running clubs sites to see what is in their diary.

I think I have given up on the practicalities of joining the club at the minute. The logistics are crazy. BUT - come late Spring, I may re-think

Themasterandmargaritas · 04/12/2009 20:08

Interesting......

While we are on 2010 goals, I think I might go for a half marathon in early February around Mt Kilimanjaro.

Find some kind of other run around April.

Then my toughie where you are all coming out to run in a ladies MN team, in the bush in Lewa with all the wild beasties.

fishie · 04/12/2009 21:12

i got the boob out of the library again recently, but it opened on a giant crumb in the middle so i shut it quickly and just carried it around for a week. will buy me own now.

do not know what to do re goals. will have to up the mileage i suppose. i tried going faster today and it was errm well the same as usual. am snail.

popsycal · 04/12/2009 22:31

i am tempted to try some tempo runs when i finally get out more than once a fortnight

the best type ifound were one mile faster one mile slower or 20 mins 'out; and 18 mins 'back'

however, I still am not sure of my speeds as I have got faster.....

hatwoman · 04/12/2009 22:33

master...just love the casual "I think I might go for a half marathon in early February around Mt Kilimanjaro." and wow. sounds fantastic.

I'm gearing up for my March 22-miler. It's quite hard to find training schedules for stuff like this - so I'm basically doing the marathon schedule I did last year but with hills. and this year I'm going to try and keep up the speed sessions (gave up on them last year because I hate them - just did the mileage at my steady pace).

I'm not a competitive gal by nature but I'd love to come close to my 2 friends who are running in it - one beats me hands down over anything upto 8 miles - but has only ever run 10 twice in her life - and never anything further. The other's an unknown - never run with him - was once fast but has had a knee op. I'm doing more training than either of them but lack their natural athleticism and long-term fitness (they were running, cycling, climbing and riding when I was a drinking/smoking teenager and 2-something).

MrsWednesday · 05/12/2009 00:18

Twink, much love to you and your family. Mr T sounds like an amazingly inspirational person, as are you and I'm so sorry he isn't with you and your DD.

I will just go back to the running now - have been seeing a chiropractor for months about my sore hip and its gradually getting better. Have managed 2.75 miles - am frustrated I have lost all my fitness but will no doubt get it back again once I get properly back into the running groove again.

Count me in for the MN running thing (going to go back and read all the details now).

IdrisTheDragon · 05/12/2009 06:57

We used to do some beep test shuttle run test at school. I would manage a silly small amount of shuttles and so people would go on a long time. Don't think I'll try it again yet.

I am going to work for the 6th consecutive day - i do accountancy marking twice a year and have got a whole week. Which will finish tomorrow. Am considering some running some time next week but have had literally no time this week.

Wallace · 05/12/2009 07:42

Stop it, master

I am doing the Inverness (not quite as glamorous!) Half Marathon on 14 th MArch.

Was supposed to be doing a 12 mile trail race today, but I haven't done any proper long runs since my HM in Oct so I'm not doiung it - also have had rotten cold so wouldn't be a clever idea.

sfxmum · 05/12/2009 13:43

hello all

barely run for the past 3 weeks and it showed on my 4miles today

I need goals must plan

plenty of inspiration here as ever

happy running all

btw what running related Christmas pressies are you demanding hoping for?

OP posts:
MoshiMoshi · 05/12/2009 13:50

MoshiMoshi's Christmas List:

Running tights
Capri pants
1000 mile socks
Asics Gel Kayano's
Wicking tops eg hoodies, long/short-sleeved tee's

(I basically need more gear which is all a bit worn so welcome others' ideas to add to my list!)

MoshiMoshi · 05/12/2009 13:53

PS oh and Murakami's boob. I asked my parents for the boob after wondering what it was all about and am looking forward to receiving it with eager anticipation after trading reviews on it!

MoshiMoshi · 05/12/2009 13:54

blast these iPhones! I meant of course reading reviews.

There is actually a 10k race in Wakefield on 28th March, to raise money for the local hospice, so I might do that. Have just subscribed to Runners World and signed up for a 10k at the end of Feb - just reading this thread has been a huge inspiration.

Twink · 06/12/2009 08:47

Wish me luck! I'm off to do our local cross-country this morning; after last night's rain I can't imagine what the stream crossing is going to be like! I've arranged a lift so I can't bottle it
