gannin along the scotswood roood ta see the blaydon races.. (or something)

stickylittlefingers · 13/11/2009 11:37

lol girlsyearapart I had my entire department singing that song to me last year! Then I was too nesh to enter, but next year... I was away for the Sunderland 10k too, but would hope to do that and the GNR next year. GNR kept me motivated in a way nothing else seems to manage to.

I think I noticed a 10k up near Druridge Bay last year - that would be pretty. I like running on sand - I used to run a bit on Sandymount strand when I lived in Dublin and that was lovely.

girlsyearapart · 13/11/2009 12:59

Yep and now it's well and truly stuck in my heid (see what I did there..)

OrmIrian · 13/11/2009 13:00

Gah! Weather forecast appalling tonight. Couldn't go last night as had to see my dad in hospital and was planning to go tonight. Rain I can handle but not strong winds and rain. Anyone else likely to wimp out?

stickylittlefingers · 13/11/2009 13:52

you're very clever girlsyearapart

OrmIrian I nearly drowned out last night (tho you should have seen the graceful jetes I executed to jump over the raging torrent that the sides of the road had turned into - just as well it was dark ) so I don't think it's about wimping, it's about living to fight another day... Feet up with a cup of tea and summat good on the telly, I reckon (hope dds are reading this...)

TutTutter · 13/11/2009 17:28

this weather playing havoc with my running plans

was going to do ten miles today, but couldn't face the mud and rain, so ran in the gym. i HATE treadmill running. why does it feel so hard? managed 10k. sweated approx 17 litres

peachsmuggler · 13/11/2009 17:41

Arrrgghhh, this rain!

Did speed training session with running club last night which was great and wet, but not too bad. However got comepltely soaked through to my pants on way home and almost blown off my bike.

Apparently worse tonight, so suggest we all stay in and eat cake.

girlsyearapart · 13/11/2009 17:59

yes sticky I'm a genius

Rain has got me running on treadmill too. BOOORRING.

Always run with dog and he refuses to set paw outside in the rain.

soyabean · 13/11/2009 21:28

I'm determined to run 10 k tomorrow morning even if it is still pouring and windy. There, I've said it, you can cast disapproving looks my way if I don't. I have also arranged to run with 2 colleagues on Thurs after school. I never run with other people but heard them planning and thought I would give it a go. It might just get me running one more time per week, esp in the winter.

Have a good weekend everyone. No takers for the CD offer, you are clearly all too young for my musical taste

fannybanjo · 13/11/2009 23:01

soya, good luck! Nowt worse than wind to run in, rain I can tolerate.

I (foolishly) went the gym before at 5om with DD1, DD2, DD3 and DH in tow. They went in the restaurant whilst I did the treadmill. I was slightly put off by DD1 waving like a maniac at the gym window to the point I missed my step and took a minor tumble. Hence I only managed 3k. I must never ever take children to the gym, it is my haven and they have ruined it!

fannybanjo · 13/11/2009 23:02

5pm

soyabean · 14/11/2009 14:55

8k, v wet and windy in the end just couldnt make myself do 10. Not too bad, and REALLY enjoyed the follow up shower then Guardian and coffee (best part of the week!)

girlsyearapart · 14/11/2009 15:59

well done soya

IdrisTheDragon · 14/11/2009 23:07

Haven't run since last Saturday. Doing going out to work type work and helping with reading at DS's school and helping at DD's pre-school is not helping with the realisatino I am meant to be running 10k on 29th.

Must go running tomorrow some time....

Themasterandmargaritas · 15/11/2009 06:55

I too haven't been out much this week, sadly not down to rain, but more down to too much partying .

I am going to do 10k tomorrow morning.

I will happily take any playlists. Just CAT me and I'll provide my address.

fannybanjo · 15/11/2009 09:58

yes, well done soya!

I am going to try and get out today and do a run outdoors but had 4 tiger beers last night and don't know whether I am up to it. I really must knuckle down and pack the drink in. I am going to enter a race for around 3 months time and get myself in training, that will make me stop drinking during the week.

girlsyearapart · 15/11/2009 10:06

ooh Tiger beer yum.

liath · 15/11/2009 10:31

Gorgeous sunny morning here. I've just been for my first proper run in months. Was only round the block but my tendon feels fine - hurrah. I think I'm going to have to be very canny and keep going to the gym more than I run but it feels so good to be back to it .

Hatwoman, that Edale race looks amazing . What made me run today was sheer frustration after driving past a load of muddy and happy looking runners coming back from the Braid hills race yesterday!

sfxmum · 15/11/2009 21:47

hello all just to keep thread on my active convos

good to see so many are doing so well

no running since last Monday but hope to do better this week, even if only very short ones and in the rain if need be, really missed it

my knee is starting to ache but not while I run hope it is nothing

happy running all

Beautiful sunny day. Lovely off and on road route. 12 miles

OK I couldn't actually run a lot of the off-road ups and downs as it was so wet it was like glass but hey! Twas fun.

Knackered afterwards though.

Themasterandmargaritas · 16/11/2009 07:27

Beautiful sunny morning here too, so I popped out a 10k but had serious tummy cramps from 5 and all I could think of was getting home to my toilet .

As we approach Christmas the security situation always gets worse and I am getting a lot of flak from people telling me I shouldn't be running. So before I go out I have to tell my gardner exactly where I am going and when I'll be back and if I'm not back by a certain time then he has to call our security agency. Ho hum. Perhaps it'll make me run faster .

girlsyearapart · 16/11/2009 07:40

Where do you live themaster?

I went running yesterday it was lovely and I managed it fairly well even though I hadn't done much recently.

Only 3 weeks till my 15k so I need to get a move on with my training.

It was VERY muddy though. Me and the hound looked a right state.

MoshiMoshi · 16/11/2009 13:31

Quick hello to all on here. Still running although the flow was somewhat interrupted by half term and a stinking cold and cough. Back on my feet again and feeling the ITB starting to strain and the tendonitis threatening to flare up so I may pop into the physio soon. Happy running all!

PS Someone was asking about hill reps earlier. I think you need to do at least 6-8 to get the full benefit although it will partly depend on the length of the hill run... I always feel like 10 is about right but maybe my hills are too little? They take between 60-120 seconds depending on where I go. The session ends up taking around 30-40 minutes ie the length of a decent but short run which is why I calculated the number of reps to be about right.

TutTutter · 16/11/2009 15:19

hate hate HATE treadmill running but have been left with little choice given the weather

10k on a treadmill feels like 10 miles in real life. that's my excuse for managing only 10k today (monday is normally my 10 mile day)

harrumph

JJ · 17/11/2009 10:37

Oh, I have been feeling so unmotivated and like I'm never going to make the half marathon in March! I missed my Friday run due to a sick child and then couldn't get motivated to go this weekend. Ran yesterday though, but just under 5k and slowly. I know I have plenty of time but it just seems undo-able at the moment. (Phew, whinge over and out.)

Reading this makes running in the mud sound like a lot of fun. I won't miss out next time! Am very impressed with everyone.
