Glad you "enjoyed" the hill training, peach

Do it popsy you will enjoy it! I will be VERY CROSS INDEED if you wimp out [wnk]

I wimped out yesteday just really didn't feel like going for a run - I had planned 8 miles. I went for an 8 mile ride on my road bike instead.

Themasterandmargaritas · 08/11/2009 11:40

Man up the lot of you. Get out of bed and get running. Mud is good for you.

Ah yes Wheely it was you, thanks a million! Could you make some suggestions of late 80s early 90s and then I can say what I have? Alternatively I shall just take whatever I am given.

Can we talk shorts for a bit? Who has some short shorts? Which kind did you go for? I have some short tight ones but I'm after short looser ones. However being large of the arse I don't want them to be too short. Any recommendations?

soyabean · 08/11/2009 14:45

soyabean · 08/11/2009 14:49

PS I dont really do shorts but when it got hot this summer i bought some cheap football shorts (mens) from Decathlon and they were fine - quite loose and long enough to be decent. happily back in trousers now...and sometimes contemplating running tights but not sure I can face them, feel I wd have to run so much better and faster!

fishie · 08/11/2009 16:25

popsy i hope you did it.

my back is wrong again, keeps spasming. the thing it is does it whether i run or not so there isn't much incentive to rest it. went swimming this morning and that hasn't helped.

i like the playlists. might put mine up later.

peachsmuggler · 08/11/2009 17:54

Hope it went well popsy, in fact hope it went!

oh fishie, you poor thing, I really feel for you after having bad back last week.

Did 10 miles yesterday in beautiful weather. Lovely.

LOVE your playlist soya

OrmIrian · 08/11/2009 18:01

Cheated today. First time ever I got DH to drive me somewhere so I could run home. So I had a 8 mile run without the tedious bit at the beginning that I have to do all the time! Was very nice but as most of it was downhill I do feel a bit guilty

Themasterandmargaritas · 08/11/2009 19:14

Orm cheating is allowed, but only on Sundays.

Oh fishie, sorry about the back.

popsycal · 08/11/2009 19:37

Girls, I didn't do it

Just after Iposted this morning, DH got a hideous migraine which kind of made the final decision for me. I had been erring on the side of not doing it - not been feeling 100%, only ran 5 times since GNR, lots of hideous nights in last few weeks. Then the thought of the Town Moor - which is exposed and boggy at the best of times - and the hideous rain put me off. But DH really wasn't good.

excuses I know.

So as a penance, I got my sorry arse out this afternoon once DH felt a little better and did 10k and got a new PB - 56:07. BAsed on that time, I would have come 446/507 and would have been the 7th F35 person in the race. ANyway. No use dwelling on it. But I did smash my mile, 5k and 10k times.

Does that make up for it at all? And the fact that I am, right now, searching for another race to enter?

19fran76 · 08/11/2009 22:07

master I have a pair of black nike shorts that are short but loose & very comfy they were too in sunnier weather - Cotton t-shirt type fabric with a deep elasticated waistband, rather than some kinda saucy retro shiny nylon
shenanigans.

Also: I have been out running twice this week 6 miles each time. Can I have a star please?

sfxmum · 09/11/2009 16:27

popsy next time you will do great no doubt

the very thought of running in shorts mind you I never thought I would wear running tights
went for 3 miles after school drop off plan to go again on Thursday just to limber up for evening gig at Brixton academy wiht all the young folk

the weekend is full of dd's social life but hopefully I will manage 6 miles

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 09/11/2009 16:55

Popsy, that is very valid excuse and you went out and did super fast time AGAIN .

Well done Fran and Peachy, sterling efforts.

I managed about 7k today, but it was tough going it was so damn hot. Hence the shorts, though I'm sensing a shorts backlash here.

I popped into our tiny Nike shop here and tried on some proper running shorts, well sort of tried them on as they were XL. Oh my oh my these are really short. They have a sort of built in panty too. If I wore those it might cause a crash. Though there was a sort of freedom feeling about them.

I tried on some others that will do fine I think.

popsycal · 09/11/2009 17:32

thank you for kind comments re my non-running saga

i am scoiring local running club sites for forthcoming events

i guessi ought o just join the runniing club hey

popsycal · 09/11/2009 17:47

two funny tyhings i remembered from testerday

when iget in froma run, ds3 (13 months)always wants a tiny weeny feed. Yesterday, he toddled over, I offered as usual and he pulled th most offended face, shook his headfuriously and toddledoff - Ib guess i worked hard

later, ds2 asked of he could get some money from the bank to buy me a xmas present. i thought awwh bless him untyil he saoid ' i want to buy you some lovely perfume mummy. so you will smell nice after your running'

i guess i have a problem

Themasterandmargaritas · 09/11/2009 17:54

Ewwwwww delightful.

I've been thinking about Twink and Mr Twink today too. She hasn't posted for ages. If you are watching Twink, we are thinking about you all.

peachsmuggler · 09/11/2009 18:09

LOL at popsy's DS. Oh dear....

fishie · 10/11/2009 10:23

yes i have been wondering about twink too, hope all is ok.

well so much for running being cheap. £120 on shoes and now sodding £50 on physiotherapist because my back is just awful.

m&m have you tried tight shorts? surprisingly unhot if you get the right sort. i cannot bear the flapping and shinyness of other sort.

fannybanjo · 10/11/2009 10:44

Ladies, can I join you?

Started running again after having DD3 (9 months) about 6 months ago and as you all know, having very young children puts any training schedule up the swanny! Anyway, time constraints and sleepless nights mean than I am only really do 4 miles and would love to get back up to my usual 9/10 miles but I just can't seem to find the energy. Am I giving myself too much of a hard time?

Weather also is horrendous so am back in the gym where I do interval training on the treadmill (so relieve the boredom) and can just about bear to do 40 minutes.

Need a bit of a kick up the arse and to stop drinking wine and get back into it. Should I enter into a race to kick start myself?

GooseyLoosey · 10/11/2009 10:46

10 miles - wow, I can only imagine being able to run that far. I have only started running within the last few months- never having run previously and yesterday I ran 10k for the first time ever. I am irationally proud of myself.

10 miles remains a distant dream!

fannybanjo · 10/11/2009 10:50

Goosey, of course you could do it, you just need to have the time to train. It was great when I only had DD1 as when she was in nursery, I had all the time in the world. Not realistic for most people though and certainly not for me now. Getting to do 5k is a great achievement. Once your body is used to the running it is just having the belief in yourself and up your mileage slowly.

Themasterandmargaritas · 10/11/2009 11:33

welcome fanny and goosey. A nice pair of names there

Fanny I wouldn't give yourself too much of a hard time, I'm sure within another 6 months you will be back to your usual energy levels. Listen to your body.....

You'll be hitting 10 miles in no time Goosey (says she who hasn't done 10k since her half)

Fishie, yes I do have a pair of tight shorts that I love. I'm with you on all the shinyness, I'm not sure I can do with all that polyester cling either, not to mention the way the loose shorts sort of attach themselves to my nether regions I just wondered if they might allow a little more air in? Maybe I should just stick to my tight ones.... At least it holds everything in.

fannybanjo · 10/11/2009 13:01

Am at you Themaster for being able to wear super short shorts, although I have lost my baby etc and started to tone up, my legs just aren't what they were pre-children. Spider veins are not attractive.

fannybanjo · 10/11/2009 13:01

lost my baby WEIGHT

Wheelybug · 10/11/2009 14:03

Hello all.

Fanny - you sounds similar to me. I too was doing lots of running when I only had dd1 and she was at nursery. Now I have dd2 who is almost 8 months its v. hard to find the time. Am doing 2 sessions in the gym a week and trying to get outside at the weekends. The gym is a killer due to boredom more than anything. But my recent aim was to get up to 5K 3 times a week and last week I did it (actually when I ran outside I did 5.6K).

Need to update my ipod to relieve the gym boredom so Margherita once I've done that I'll post my playlist and you can let me know what you want from that or anything similar or anything from anyone elses. I mgiht do it tonight but hopeflly before friday's gym session.

I don't think I've ever been able to wear super short shorts. Sob.
