I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

My rfl is next Sunday, i have ice on my ankle (right side) at mo and im sure it will be fine but my running chum has just text to say tonight she has fallen running - ankle like a tennis ball and possible broken arm! fortunatly its her left side foot so i suppose we coulld run as a three legged race next week!!!

Ok, I have managed to do the w3. When I finished the last run, the day after my knees on the inside were quie painful. So tonight(australia) I have just been out and could not run. I ran for 9o secs thinking that it might ease and no, unable to run due to the pain.

Any ideas because massivley pissed off as was really starting to enjoy it

lulalullabye · 07/06/2009 11:16

Ok, done a bit of research, and it seems that it is chondromalacia patella ! This is something that runners get a lot, not that I am classing myself as a runner ! I was actually diagnosed with this in my late teens but had forgotten all about it and didn't realise that it got worse with running.

So, advice is to strenghten quads and to do more cycling. Run less . But I will try again once more quad exercises are done.

JackBauer · 07/06/2009 14:12

lula, that sounds a bit like my knee problem which has almost completely cleared after a chat with my brother (he is a sports scientist/athlete)
Migh be worth a try though, I posted about it before but he essentially said to run on level firm surfaces only, so no grass, no sloping paths, and make sure I had proper trainers. I got my trainers from a specialist shop using a camera to chekc my running style so that is ok but I changed my route and now my knees barely hurt at all.

I do have a question though, I have done 2 runs for wk4 but missed one this week. Do I do the third or start wk 5 on tuesday? any ideas?

lulalullabye · 07/06/2009 14:51

That is the problem though, as the pavemant where we are in Aus is perfect, flat no cracks and have a very good pair of runners wich they tested my feet before advising which to buy .

The pain is text book for this condition, but you can get a knee brace to run with once it has settled. Also doing lots of quad exercises help, so I will see how I go. Thanks for the tip anyway. I am a nurse and currently on a night shift, so will see if any of the docs are ortho specialists.

JackBauer · 07/06/2009 15:09

Oh, sorry, that was no help then. Bit that you get to run in Aus when I get to run in rainy Wales though

Hope you get it sorted.

lulalullabye · 07/06/2009 17:23

Me too. And the running in Aus thing is cold brrrr at the moment(melbourne).

canella · 08/06/2009 10:52

morning all!!

just did w3r1 - so chuffed with myself that i can run for 3 mins and managed to breathe thro my nose the whole time!!

just ended up a bit far away from home cause he didnt count the last 3 min cool down in the podcast!

hope you're all doing ok this morn and the injuries are better!

Vulgar · 08/06/2009 11:39

well done Canella!

i had a terrible run this morning. started w7 full of enthuisism but running was awful - out of breath really quickly - wonder whether I was going too fast (it didn't look like it) did the last ten minutes going downhill which is cheating a bit but I usually really enjoy this bit. Had to stop about 3 minutes from the end.

now my quads really hurt! what is wrong with me? don't feel ill, ate the same breakfast, ran at the same time.

my arms feel a bit numb and tingly. i can't be having a heart attack can I? chest doesn't hurt.

Off to have a bath now.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 08/06/2009 12:07

Ended up in lots of fields this morning due to thinking there was a road where there wasn't. Have no idea how far I went but rather a lot was walking due to fields, long grass and nettles.

Will plan route better for next run

TrillianAstra · 08/06/2009 12:10

Did W6R2 again - supposed to do R3 but R2 was hard enough for today.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 08/06/2009 12:38

Have looked on gmaps pedometer and seem to have covered 6.6 miles in total (with lots of walking). Took me about and hour and a half so it was 13.38 min/mile. Somehow I feel when I am running it should be rather more faster than it is (the running part was about 11.14 min/mile).

Oh well, next run is another day

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/06/2009 13:02

Oooo aretn we all still doing rather well! I am going to do week 7 r1 tonight - i havent looked at it yet though. Im realy tired today so hoping it wil energise me. My ankle feels fine today as well whichis a bonus

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/06/2009 13:04

hmmm, actually it looksl ike a borng as hell week! No rawb chatter then! 25 min stright runs this week so im thinking may as well run to my own tune for 25 mins or does he crack funnies and give you encouragement and break downs through out???? humour me....

OP posts:
Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/06/2009 13:06

VULGAR are you still alive? tellme about week 7 - worth bothering to download?

OP posts:
LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 08/06/2009 14:32

Week 7 is dull. Rawb tells you when you start, when you are half way through and when you end.

I did a week 7 run to week 6 (ie week 6 r3) and then did my own music.

HuffwardlyRudge · 08/06/2009 14:36

I can't even remember what run I'm on. Have been ill. Tentatively thinking about going for a run this evening. Don't really feel like it tbh. One more day recovery, or go for it?

Vulgar · 08/06/2009 15:51

I'm still alive Nappy

But paranoid that I'm gonna have a heart attack - arm still a bit numb but slept for 2 hours today when I should have been working.

I quite liked the music for w7 - hope I'm up for it on Wednesday.

Huffwardly- have another day off! But make sure you go tomorrow.

There! someone has made the decision for you!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/06/2009 17:00

I have walked to school and back this afty - 2 and a half miles round trip and my ankle is niggling - thinking of wimping out too or i could have an ibuprofen and stop being a fanny and just go for it....

OP posts:
Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/06/2009 17:01

i havent downloaded w7 so was just going to run to w6r3 also....

OP posts:
Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/06/2009 19:11

I wimped out totally bone idle.

OP posts:
Vulgar · 08/06/2009 20:12

You haven't wimped out, Nappy, you're resting your ankle.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 09/06/2009 11:36

im going tonight - i am psyching myself up although its raining hmmm anyway im going to then that will be my last one till Sunday race day yikes! I should plan something suitable for tea for running on bur have opted to prepare a big sausage dinner

OP posts:
JackBauer · 09/06/2009 14:41

Go on Nappy, it will be fine, and I love running in the rain as it hides the sweat quite effectively
Went out this morning for wk5r1, even though I missed r3 last week, and it went great! Didn't have to stop, ran along the seafront in sunshine and gentle breeze, lovely.

I am really enjoying it actually as I find I am so busy just keeping myself going that I don't have the energy to think about what's for tea, or what needs washing/cleaing or anything from teh day to day crap that takes over, so it is so nice to have that half an hour for
'ok, not much further, ooh look, a seagull, gosh, I've gone quite far, eurgh, dogshit, that's a good view, oh good, I can walk'
going through my head

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 09/06/2009 18:27

lmao - yes i hate the dog turd dodging and oh bloody hell a road end if i have stop i wont be able to start again ponder

Not going till 7 - its really cold.
